Joey Porter Celebrating His New Contract With AZ

Some stuff I'm sick of reading re: Trent Edwards
gobillsinytown replied to Simon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There ya go. The game is changing, but one thing that hasn't changed is that it's the ultimate team sport. Any QB absolutley has to have solid offensive line play to be successful. Period. And it seems to me that the one thing that all the previous coaches and management had screwed up on was the O-line. From Donahoe drafting Mike Williams to Marv over paying for two free agent O-linemen that aren't even with the team now. -
....and I thought I was having a bad week! Let the wife go. She doesn't deserve you. Like other poeple have posted, make sure you get everything the government owes you. The credit cards will be a blessing once you finally get rid of them. Hang in there, and remember there are plenty of people who deeply respect you for your service.

Welcome to the world of anonymous internet sports postings. When people have the safety of anonymity, they will post things that they would not in person. So in this case, they're Bills fans who are angry about the team losing. When the team is losing, the quarterback is the focus. He and the head coach get the majority of the flack. combine these two things on an internet message board, and you see the kind of posts about players that you see here. Of course, it's completely divorced from reality. How many of the people calling Edwards a p***y would ever say that to his face? I remember reading the same stuff about Bledsoe. Bledsoe was another guy who would regularly stand in the pocket, waiting for wideouts to come open, knowing that he was going to get hammered. I thought he was one of the toughest QB's I've ever seen, yet I would read posts from people calling him a wimp, and I was wondering if they were confusing their Madden game replays with the real game. Unbelievable. -
It sure looks that way, although Reid has always supported him. But it is a business, so it could happen. IMO, I think it's just chatter between teams. I can't see anyone giving up what the Eagles will want for him. And the last place he's going to want to go is the Bills, simply because of the state of our O-Line. He's too old to be getting his body slammed into the turf. It's doesn't make sense for Buffalo either, because he's not going to make this team a contender in one year. I think the Jets win the division, New England right behind them, an the Fish much better. Sad but true....

Where do these draft "gurus" get their info from? There has to be at least 100 of these guys out there.

Ryan Leaf agrees to a 10 year deal
gobillsinytown replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EXCELLENT title for this thread my friend. You had me totally fooled. Best title of the day! -
The rule was designed to give both quarterbacks the ball in an overtime game. I think it was reactionary because of what happened in last year's playoffs. But I also think that the league will end up either changing it again or repealing it. The league is fairly open minded about this kind of stuff and isn't afraid to experiment. By the way....their "no" vote has nothing to do with age. What about the other teams that voted no? Maybe we should check the ages of their owners and staff. Sometimes, age=wisdom, and Ralph turned out to be right about the collective bargaining agreement that he voted against, and that is now threatening to seriously damage the game. I guess I'm going with the "old codger".

Don't forget Akili Smith.

The last article I read indicated that he would be ready to play this season, barring any setbacks. The article didn't mention any set timetable, but at least it's encouraging that he's expected to play.

UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos
gobillsinytown replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Tebow is invited it's because he's "hype worthy". He fits all the paramaters. Nice guy, clean cut, religious, played at a high profile college. They can use all their favorite words like: adversity, courage, persistence, dedication, hard work, upstanding, etc etc etc etc etc ad nauseaum. Plus, he's got a name that trips off the tongue easily. I assume their research proves that this generates ratings. Apparently the majority of casual sports fans like having a story hammered at them repeatedly. I don't think it matters whether or not the guy can actually play. If he does make it, it's gonna be Teddy Brusci all over again. -
Kyle Williams should be traded
gobillsinytown replied to evilcape's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This assumes that the Bills can make the full transition to the 34 next year. My layman's guess is that they'll go with more of a hybrid 43 to fit the personnel they have, unless they get, or someone emerges as, a true NT. In the 34 the NT has to be able to tie up two blockers on every play, unless it's an obvious passing down and the nickel package comes in. Ideally you want a guy that's bigger than Kyle, but I think it's also about leverage. If he plays with good leverage and uses his motor to clog up the middle, he could play the position. But I would wonder if his body could handle the wear and tear of two 310+ linemen on him every game. -
Not necessarily. With a neck injury, some doctors tend to be more conservative than others. There are potential legal issues in allowing someone to play with a neck injury as well. I don't think he came here just because two other teams wouldn't sign him. There are a number of other teams looking for 3-4 linemen. I think this is the result of conflicting medical opinions, and I hope the Bills' doctors are right. If they're not, we might see another Keven Everett situation. Which is exactly why I think the Bills' doctors are right. They wouldn't have cleared his signing if they thought there was a significant chance of injury.

Makes sense.....in the second round or lower. Interest in McCoy seems to have fallen off so his agent is making the rounds.

I live an hour away from Cleveland. Most of the coverage of their recent actvity is "wait and see". The fans don't seem to be particularly excited about it either way. Then again, the fans knew that they were going to start from scratch anyway. Holmgren is bringing in guys that either know his system directly or have worked in similar systems. Anderson and Quinn have no experience under Holmgren's style of offense. Overall it's been a very lukewarm response to what the team is doing here in Northeast Ohio. Speculation here is that the team still isn't done at the QB position, and that they will draft a QB in round 1.

The 2010 offseason in a nutshell....

I agree with Peter King
gobillsinytown replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just running out and grabbing every/any free agent with a name is not going to translate into wins. Especially at the QB position. I'm really amazed that at least some fans don't seem to understand that the priority has to be OL. To my knowledge, we were the only team in the league last year that was so depleted with injuries along the OL that we were carting off guys on Sunday, calling street free agents on Sunday night, and then having them START the following Sunday. That's why the successful teams in the league have offensive lines that are at least reasonably stable. Injuries happen to every team..............but not like that. -
The cuts are going to continue. Teams are now installing budgets in place of the cap. Those budgets will be tighter than any of the cap rules. I think the owners are trying to send a message.
-
So, how many signable free agents are left? I'll go out on a limb and say that's how many more threads like this we'll have to endure....

Nix is passing on quality free agents
gobillsinytown replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They're probably already complaining. Teams are installing budgets this year in place of the cap. So even though there's no cap in place and theoretically a team can spend as much as they want, it's not going to happen. The owners are looking to next year and a strike or a lockout. Hopefully both sides will come to their senses before that happens. The NFL is the most popular sport in the US by far, and a strike/lockout would damage that. -
OK, let me give it a shot: Lets trade our defensive backfield for Vick. Original? Yes. Stupid? Sure.....
