  1. It was the only game we got here. They were really trying to get him involved, especially once they had the big lead. He looks half a step slow. It may be that he's still adjusting to their system, or he really may not have very much left in the tank.
  2. I saw most of the game here......Flacco kept trying to get the ball to him and they were really trying to get him involved. It's a little to early to tell but I don't think he's got much left in the tank.
  3. Tried to find a stream but no luck......and I'm the only Bills fan in this town that I know of. There might be a Bills Backers bar in Cleveland (an hour west of me) or in Pittsburgh (an hour east of me), but that would be like having my fingernails pulled out one by one. I might head up to Erie one Sunday though... Thanks for getting back to me....glad to hear Merriman played well too. Hope he ices the hell out of that hamstring/achilles tonight, we're going to need him all season.
  4. Here in Youngstown, OH it was the Steelers getting destroyed by Baltimore. So how did Marcel look in his first pro game? Did anybody focus on that part of the game? thanks in advance for any observations...
  5. Unfortunately, it takes events like this to get the laws changed. I would imagine there will be a new law on the book requiring an ambulance at all football games in Mississippi soon. Sad that it has to happen this way.
  6. The interview I read with Gailey indicated that some of the competitions were very close and that some of the decisions were going to be hard to make. My guess.......Roosevelt and Coleman might not have graded out high enough on special teams?
  7. I think we should trade Fitz to Philly, then take Kansas City's 3 round draft pick next year and trade it to Denver for Tebow. Then, trade Tebow to Philly for Vince Young! Problem solved.
  8. It's all part of their master plan to eventually transition Maybin to tailback. With his ultra quick first step, he'll be past the line of scrimmage and into the secondary on every play.
  9. CK would be perfect for a team that's at or near the top of the division, with lots of young talent. He knows the defensive system and is a perfect "lunch pail" type of guy that balances out raw talent. Unfortunately, the Bills aren't that team, so I think it's time for him to go.
  10. I've heard this argument before and it's never held up for me. No athlete that's played at the major college level thinks he sucks. He was very good in college, but as we all know college football is not pro football. There are plenty of guys just like him who have been first or second round draft picks that don't make the transition. I don't think it's a lack of effort or athletic ability on his part. I think that he can't adjust to the speed of the NFL. The play doesn't "slow down" enough for him. And I doubt that Maybin is laughing. Failure at a dream you've had since you were a little kid hurts, no matter how much money you were paid. I hope he does well in whatever he decides to do in the next phase of his life.
  11. I think this year is going to be different for him. Pre season is going to be critical, because if he doesn't show a significant improvement he'll be cut for pre season is over
  12. I think the whole fascination with Tebow is based more on his personality rather than on his potential to actually progress to the next level. Most of the coverage before the draft emphasized his "speed" and "leadership" qualities, and the fact that he was a "winner". But most of the evaluations by real NFL scouts indicated that he wouldn't be able to make the transition. I'm not saying he won't, but there have been a lot of guys that have been through the NFL with the same kind of athletic abilities but couldn't take the next step. I hope he makes it, but so far it doesn't look good.
  13. +100 There really is no such thing as a 4-3 or 3-4, especially in the NFL. Everything depends on down and distance, and what personnel the offense has on the field. Based on what I've seen of Marcel, he's capable of moving around along the line, and he most certainly has the talent to play NT or DE in the 3-4, or DT in the 4-3. I think the misunderstanding here is that he's going to be forced to play one position all the time. If Marcel keeps developing, it means that the O-line is going to have to account for him with double (and we hope) and triple teams.
  14. +1 Here's the quote from his agent from the Buffalo News: "Jacksonville plays a 4-3 defensive scheme, and that was the big factor in the decision, said Michael McCartney, Posluszny's Chicago-based agent. "He got excited to play in a 4-3 defense in the middle," McCartney said. "He's leaving Buffalo with a heavy heart." "I have so much respect for the Buffalo organization," McCartney said. "They did everything they could to try to sign him. But he felt more comfortable in a 4-3 defense. I want to emphasize how much respect I have for Jim Overdorf (Bills senior vice president of football administration) and the Bills. It was a tough decision." Posluszny was drafted into the league as a 4-3 middle linebacker when the Bills took him in the second round in 2007. The Bills now use a 3-4 defense as their base scheme under coach Chan Gailey." I think this was a career decision for Poz. If he feels he's the most effective under a 4-3, and his current team plays a 3-4, what's wrong with his decision, and what's wrong with the Bills letting him go? From what I read in the quote, the decision had very little to do with money. And IMO, here's the ultimate fact: When a team is 4-12, every position is up for review.
  15. Signing clements would be awesome! I think 18 million a year for 22 years would get it done.
  16. From Wikipedia: "Wilson grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from the University of Virginia and attended the University of Michigan Law School. At the University of Virginia he joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He is a World War II veteran. After the war ended, he took over the successful insurance business of his father and invested in Michigan area mines and factories. He eventually purchased several manufacturing outlets, construction firms, and radio stations, and founded Ralph Wilson Industries. Ralph Wilson has also been involved for a number of years in the sport of Thoroughbred horse racing both as a breeder and as an owner in France and the United States. He notably bred Santa Anita Derby winner, Jim French as well as two-year-old European susperstar Arazi, winner of the 1991 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and European Horse of the Year. [4] Another horse, Outta Here, raced in the 2003 Kentucky Derby and finished in seventh place."
  17. I think this is what is really behind all the current and former players jumping on him. The difference between Jeff George and Jim Kelly was leadership. George could make all the throws and was tough, but was a lump in the huddle and on the sidelines. On the rare occasions when Jim was knocked out of a game, he would be working the sidelines, talking with the backup QB, talking with the coaches and coordinators, etc. So even when he was out of the game, he was part of the team. As we all saw with Cutler, once he was out of the game.....it was no longer his problem. I think the guy is tough as hell, but that's not enough at the QB postion.
  18. I think all of us can take a hearty lesson from his sacrifice. Here is a man that believes in something, and he's willing to buck it up for the good of the league, all of sporting life, and all of America. And to think I was viewing the potential lockout as a pile out-of-touch, insulated individuals squabbling over giant wads of cash, and using press releases and interviews as a cynical, arrogant attempt to generate sympathy. Wow, you learn something new every day.
  19. Nepotism or not, this is a very common practice in the NFL. Not only on the ownership side, but on the football side with coaches and players. The successful teams do it (see Pittsburgh) as well as the unsuccessful teams.
  20. If anyone wants to watch Dareus.....there are twelve plays featuring him from their last bowl game up on YouTube. Just type in "Marcell Dareus". Based on what I saw there, we could do a lot worse. He's got a good low center of gravity and uses his arms to shed blocks really well. IMO he'll have to get a little quicker, but the O-line he was playing against in the bowl game just couldn't stop him.
  21. Assuming Fitzy is going to be the stopgap QB, I would go with draft A. If the switch to the 34 is permanent, they're going to need more at linebacker. DL is important but as Pittsburgh has shown, having versatile linebackers who can shoot gaps, scrape at the line of scrimmage and still rush from a three point stance is how the "prototypical" 34 alignment should be run. At some point though, they're going to have to draft a QB.
  22. I don't know if this is a significant difference, but Al's title is "Managing General Partner". I would assume that there are other people who have an ownership stake in the team but don't have management priveledges. Al seems to be a lot more involved in the day to day operation of the team than Ralph is. Al has direct say in draft picks, assistant coaches, etc. I'm not sure that Ralph gets involved to that level. The interesting thing about this topic is that Ralph floated Al something like a 30 thousand dollar loan in the early 60's so that Al could invest in a franchise for Oakland.
  23. What with the new interface and all, I almost forgot where the "ignore user" button is. I'm glad I found it.
  24. I was expecting anywhere from 4-12 to 6-10. I was expecting a bad start and hoping for a stronger finish. So far so good.
