Same old, same old. It's all been said before. It's being said on the message boards of the lower tier NFL teams all over the country. And my response will always be the same: It's entertainment. If this form of entertainment is bothering you that much, then choose another.

I'm not sure the Colts really even needed Richardson. It takes time for an RB and his O-line to gel, and obviously he's having problems getting in sync with them. And since the NFL is now clearly a passing league, the value of running backs is dropping. Back in the day, it was common for RB's to get 300+ carries in a season. I don't think the average guy can handle that many carries with the speed and strength of today's NFL defenses. So far the trade seems like a wash. The Browns really didn't gain anything and neither did the Colts. The difference between the two teams is that the Colts have a franchise QB and the Browns don't

I admire Rex and feel sorry for him at the same time. He's in the number one media market in the world and acts like he's in Jacksonville. I get the carefree attitude in the face of so much scrutiny, but he brings so much distraction to his team that I think it affects their play at this point. I think the Rex era is going to be over soon.

Ryan Fitzpatrick to start
gobillsinytown replied to Buffalos#1Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz would have been the perfect QB......obviously smart, a down to earth guy, would always say the right thing, and would unlikely do anything stupid off the field. A class act who knows how lucky he is. But unfortunately he just doesn't have the arm or the intangibles to be a great QB. It really shows how hard it is the find a franchise QB. -
Jonathan Martin AWOL, Incognito suspended
gobillsinytown replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been listening to sports talk radio on and off the entire day. I've heard a lot of opinions on this incident, but only a few people have questioned the leadership in the locker room. This was my question. The coaches can't watch every player and everybody's behavior. That's where the team leaders step in before things get out of hand, and it sounds like this got way out of hand a long time ago. During training camp and pre season, there's always a lot of pranks/hazing etc. But once the season gets underway, things should be a little more serious. Lunch room pranks like the one that set Martin off should be at a minimum at this point in the season. -

This story is getting weirder by the minute. I'm sure some of it is just speculation, but if Martin is being hassled as alleged, then there's definitely a leadership problem in the locker room. Nobody should have to put up with that at their job. -
FCC proposes ending sports blackouts

Supposedly the NFL is in the process of developing this type of technology. WiFi in all stadiums, apps for replay, apps for fantasy football stats, etc. But since the goal is to roll this technology in all stadiums at once, it's going to take 2-3 years before it's available. Being that this is the NFL, I would guess most of it won't be free. -

Wily Drew Brees is. -
The Bills are not the kind of team yet that can overcome turnovers to beat a team like the Saints. The Bills did not "give them the game", and the refs didn't decide the game either. I'm very optimistic about our team, but at the same time, realistic about their chances against a top tier team, at home, coming off a bye, in one of the toughest places in the league for visiting teams to play. I expected a loss, but I'm still excited about the core that's in place. Great post. Although I prefer my unicorns with dreams and starlight.

Doing some work at my computer tonight while keeping an eye on the Texas Tech - WVU game, and the Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro is really standing out. Big, fast, hard to bring down, and nice soft hands. Not sure if he's been discussed here before, but he's definitely a prospect. They were using him in the slot tonight. Announcers said he's caught at least 8 passes in each game for the last five games. He would would look great dragging defenders around in a Bills' uniform.......wishful think on my part I'm sure, but one can dream....

Did the ST coach call for a returnable kick
gobillsinytown replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Special team coverage is definitely an issue at the moment. The good news is that it can be fixed during the season. Tasker said the single most important thing on punt and kickoff coverage was lane discipline. On some of the long returns this year, you'll see Bills players all bunched up together, meaning that they broke out of their lanes too quickly to chase the ball carrier, creating holes for the ball carrier to run through. This problem can be solved as the people on punt and kick coverage get some experience. -
Dr Andrews is a pioneer in the field of arthroscopic surgery. Worked on Bruce Smith's knees throughout his entire playing career. His area of specialty is athletic injuries. I'm sure he charges a lot, but that's the basic economic principle of supply and demand. Lots of professional athletes want his services, but there's only one of him........

This is awesome. Can you imagine the confusion on the defense? You could do five separate laterals on one play! By "they", I'm guessing you mean the QB's in question? Put yourself in their shoes.......if you had the chance to make $400,000 plus to hold a clipboard, would you do it? Or better yet, come in when the starter is hurt and pull out a win? We had one of the greatest backup QB's of all time in Frank Reich.

While what you say is true, remember........this "article" was written by "experts" who have an agenda and therefore should be treated as such. Articles like this come out on a regular basis and don't mean very much at all. While it's nice fodder for discussion boards, it doesn't have any value beyond that.

Take a stroll behind enemy lines
gobillsinytown replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a relatively old man who was able to go to all the Bills-Fish rivalry games "back in the day".......all it takes to stoke the rivalry again is for both teams to start winning. I guess we'll have to wait for the Bellicheck-Brady-Satan soul deal to expire first, though. -
QB Thad Lewis injury discussion
gobillsinytown replied to Breakdance's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These are not really "teachable moments". Experience is the only real teacher. It's one thing for the coaches to tell them to throw it away or not try to do too much by running. It's another thing for them to do that correctly every single time during the course of a game. Very few QB's get to that elite level. The most successful (in terms of Superbowls) QB to develop these two skillsets to the highest level was Steve Young, and he sat on the bench behind Joe Montana for quite a while. Aaron Rodgers can run, but uses it rarely and he sat behind Brett Favre for quite a while. In this era, first round draft pick QB's don't have that luxury. -
The NY Giants are so bad...

This is awesome, but as much as we would all like, it's not going to lighten the mood on this board. Thanks for trying though! Now back to more anger. -
Thaddeus Lewis starting against Bengals
gobillsinytown replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh Freeman comes from an entirely different system. He has no familiarity with the coaching staff. He's also understandably skittish from his experience in Tampa Bay. No matter how much cap space the Bills might have, losing the starting QB to injury is always a huge problem. -

Because he thinks he should be worth 5 million. Or 7 million, because he heard of him recently. -
We've got a lot of good researchers on this board........here's what I was wondering: What is the league-wide rate of injuries pre vs. post collective bargaining agreement? The last CBA reduced the number and amount of practice times during training camp. The injury problems not only with the Bills but across the league seem really acute this year, at least it seems that way on the surface. Has anybody done any digging? Maybe there's a correlation between reduced reps in practice and higher injury rates? It seems at least at first glance that a lot of players have been hurt this year.

Manuel had another rough outing
gobillsinytown replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Any rookie QB is a work in progress. The NFL game is too much to assimilate in one year. The rookie QB's who have succeeded in their first year had enough talent supporting them. A few "once in a generation" QB's have been able to take a team on their shoulders (ala Andrew Luck), but those are few and far between. EJ is a starting caliber QB, but won't really come into his own for at least a year, and hopefully won't get hurt or shell shocked. It's a combination of good coaching, talent and sheer luck. Let's hope the dice roll comes up seven! -
Good analysis on EJ's errors from Jets game
gobillsinytown replied to TPS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
An excellent read and and textbook example of how to design a defensive scheme against a rookie quarterback. As far as abandoning the no-huddle: The pace of the no huddle can be slowed. Jim Kelly was quite good at it. When he wanted to kill the clock, they would stay in the no huddle, but he would take a looong time to call the play, and would throw in a lot of "junk" terminology when was calling it. I think that once EJ gets more comfortable with the system, he'll be able to do the same thing.
