The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, that's because THESE protests (and apparently the associated riots) are simply citizens (and maybe non-citizens, who knows?) taking part in expressing their Constitutional rights protected by the 1st amendment to have their grievances against the government heard. Whereas those other gatherings were much smaller groups of people freely associating with like minded people who share a common religious background. Neither of which rise to the same level of Constitutionally protected 1st amendment rights. Silly rabbit, don't you know only some rights are actually rights? And Burgermeister Meisterburger DeBlasio is and should be the only arbiter of what the distinction between those rights are. Besides, joining a protest march is the only known method of vaccinating oneself (temporarily?) from the virus. It's science. -

Well, were the FBI's investigation on the level then tipping off Page wouldn't be an issue, would it? (Besides the Q was for TBF.) -

If the FBI weren't trying to set 45 up & were actually on the level about warning him about Russians trying to infiltrate his campaign and trying to protect the integrity of the election, wouldn't they have told him they had concerns that Page (at a minimum) might have been compromised by the Russians? Telling him that would've allowed him to either remove an apple that was soooo bad & such an imminent national threat that he had an entire year's worth of FISA warrants issued against him or possibly even lay a trap to set him & the Russians up. Which, if the FBI were really on the level, wouldn't that have been in our national interest? Funny, how nearly 3 years after those warrants which indicated Page was a threat to national security had expired that he still walks around unindicted. Any thoughts to why that might be? -
Hoping, and expecting, this is simply another example of 45 pointing out something he could do that he doesn't ultimately end up doing - like sending soldiers in to quell riots or forcing governors to open their states back up - that ends up getting those that actually matter (like the governors & the retired generals) to stop taking pot shots at him. Were he to actually do it, Biden could actually win.
-
Gary, what a friggin' power tool you are. You deleted your thread because it was shown that 2 separate times you posted only part of 45's quote to totally change the meaning of what he said. He says all sorts of dumb stuff but you have to lie about what he says. You even lie about your own actions. What an absolute waste of protoplasm you are.

Following the Ray Nagin / Kathleen Blanco playbook. Neglected the fact that Blanco wasn't reelected.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The thing is, in Sweden, they had planned to selectively protect their elderly and leave most of the rest of the population free to go about their normal lives but it doesn't look like their protections of the elderly were adequate. (Much like NYC's protections for the elderly turned out to be inadequate though the state was shut down hard.) Should another pathogen with similar potential for death arise, Sweden seems to have shown the general population doesn't need to halt their lives on a dime. But their protections of the elderly were (or at bare mi in IMO seem woefully) inadequate and we need to look to other examples of what did end up successful to protect those most at risk. (Not forcing nursing care facilities to accept currently ill patients MIGHT be a good starting point.) -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

So, Alabama wasn't reporting hospitalizations, but now they are reporting, and the totals didn't quite go up for the south as much as Alabama added, and that's a bad thing? Funny how each of those graphs use a different scale, so it looks like things overall haven't improved much. But if they were all on the same scale we'd notice that the mid-Atlantic's peak should be 5x that of New England, the mid-West's should be 2x, and the South West's (the one seeing the "large" growth) should be 0.5x. Deaths don't seem to be appreciably rising either (thankfully), so it really does seem they've got a handle on all this. In the next 3-10 days we should see spikes in positive tests from all the protests; if we don't, guess there's something to the speculation about seasonality, or some assumption(s) about transmittability must have been off. It will be interesting to see how the protest spikes are handled/addressed. But how many of those ICU beds are being used by people that put off surgeries & from other maladies besides COVID-19? Procedures can only be put off for so long unless they are truly elective. And NC's "spike" in hospitalizations (774) needs to increase by nearly 33% to simply reach 1,000 statewide. It stinks that there's any, but fairly certain with the additional knowledge they have now that wasn't available in March that they could handle 1,000 cases without overly taxing the system. Which was the point of the lockdowns in the 1st place. -
Wouldn't be surprised to see someone legitimately make that argument. Or at least TRY to make it.

Struck me more of a case of the old guy was talking trash about the cops & the other guy was summarizing it - he wants to get punched in the face (maybe not directly, but what he'd planned on doing would in the other guy's opinion get him punched in the face).
-
Heard him say off-screen he was there for a little fun. Did not hear him say he wanted to get punched in the face, but the other guy describing the scene to the guy recording video said he thought the guy wanted to get punched in the face. Maybe he said it and the phone barely picked it up; but my ears never heard Gugino say he himself wanted to be punched in the face.

Is there no low that SuperMechaUltraHitler won't stoop to in order to keep African Americans down?

Have no idea why. Maybe somebody could ask those in charge. His trial will be very interesting. The racial angle is obviously getting a ton of coverage, but these 2 knew each other from the cop's 2nd job. Was there bad blood between them? What made him put his knee to his throat in the 1st place and then keep it there at least 100 seconds after his suspect was beyond subdued? Expecting this will turn out to be bad blood between the 2 and that their history was why the charge against him was elevated. And while there nearly definitely need to be changes in how the department operates, disbanding it seems to be far beyond what is called for. (And whether they don't really mean to disband it, that's what they're asking for and people within their movement DO want that. Until they demonstrate they mean something else, will take their word for it that they want to disband the department.)

You are aware that the 4 cops were FIRED before any of the protests started, right? They were fired the day after George Floyd was murdered. You are aware that the cop that killed George Floyd was charged with 3rd degree murder 4 days after the incident, right? And that 5 days after that the charge was bumped up to 2nd degree murder and the other 3 officers involved had charges brought as well, right? Just how badly were the "governments hands ... tied?"

Buffalo PD assault older gentleman, leave him to bleed
Taro T replied to Reed83HOF's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thank you for the links. Agreed, that doesn't warrant having his head split open. But it does cause one to wonder why he thought there was enough of a possibility of a confrontation to bring a helmet but not enough that he'd actually put it on. Could have saved at least 3 people a lot of pain &/or anguish. Glad he seems to be recovering well. -

When the gentleman that was shoved is recovered, would really like to know why he was holding the helmet. Was he trying to return a police helmet as had been speculated? If so, why try to return it to a line of riot police in formation rather than a police station or a singular police officer? He was hanging out in the square (from the other video) for at least a 1/2 hour. It would seem that he'd've had an opportunity to turn it in prior to the line being formed, though maybe not. If not that & it was his, why wasn't he wearing it? Would've saved himself a lot of pain & trouble and might've saved two police officers' careers. Hope he's ok. -

Now THAT was unexpected ... NOT! -
Didn't see his press conference today. If, as you say, he is upset about it, maybe he'll actually get the all Democrat controlled legislature to put together an actually reasonable bail reform bill. (Yeah, right.)

The Deep State War Heats Up
Taro T replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Good. Keep the investigation away from Senator Graham's control as much as is possible. -
To the bolded: don't know. How many times have you read it? And, since we're asking questions: when is the last time a police officer was fired while an investigation into his behavior was ongoing that additional punishments weren't later brought? Honestly can't come up with an example ottomh w/in the past 30 years. Assuming you have some as am presuming there was a reason for having "considerable doubt" that additional punishment (read charges) would be forthcoming.
-
Where are you getting the bolded? These protesters absolutely 100% have a right to protest. They do NOT have a right to riot, destroy property, nor injure/ kill people. There was never any doubt that the cops involved in George Floyd's MURDER were going to be brought to justice. They were fired after the incident; not put on administrative leave w/ or w/ out pay, but actually terminated. That implies that something serious was coming down the pike; and within a week it did. The cop that actually put the knee to his neck is now charged with 2nd degree (up from 3rd degree) murder and the others are being charged as accessories. So, though there may be a perception of unequal justice, it doesn't look that way from here. If you feel there is unequal justice there, feel free to join the protests. But those that are rioting and destroying things are screwing the people that live in those communities as it will be a long time, if ever, before those communities have access to the services that will no longer be provided. They have lowered the quality of life in those communities. Let's hope they didn't also subject the people still in those communities to another round of COVID-19 infections. They don't need that on top of everything else.

Just because they don't like eating food does NOT ensure they like broccoli. (Though the virtue signaling implies it.)
