“Cancel” / Knee-Jerk Culture of 2020 and beyond
Taro T replied to RiotAct's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The porn industry will never survive. Wait ... what? Oh, you meant THOSE facials. Nevermind. -
You think the Soviets EVER missed a Security Council vote after the Korean War began? Think the Iraqis or Taliban would like to have enjoyed a veto as well? Not saying the US should continue our lopsided funding of the UN nor that we shouldn't try to disband some of the really ridiculous subcouncils; but as long as the UN exists, our leaving the UN outright would be the stupidest thing we could ever do.
-
As long as the UN members can vote to go to war against a sovereign nation we need to stay in the UN and keep our Security Council veto.

Hopefully saner heads in NYC can prevail before DeBlasio is successful at Venezuelaizing that great city. It's doubtful, but hey miracles do happen every now & then.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That's not what they're saying. They are reporting the % positive as the percentage of people WITH an elevated temp that are then testing positive. They're reporting the percentage of a subset of the total group that is likely to have a greater positive percentage than the whole group's positive percentage as that of the whole group. If there are no asymptomatic people in the whole group, the entire group's positive rate would be 1.9%. Only if people without a fever are infected at the same rate as those with would the entire group's positive rate be 18%. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No. Pretty sure that the author is stating that the actual positive rate should be the 19 positive tests divided by the 956 total people screened at a cursory level. Which, while the 1st # grossly inflated positive test rates the latter ignores asymptomatic people that are actually carrying the virus. The real number is likely close to the 1.9% but higher than that. -
O Kay.

Wasn't sure before, but now it is obvious you're trolling. That's not a person that was spray painted bronze before being lynched, it is a friggin' statue.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Personally, as am not in a high risk group, would not be one of the 1st to take the vaccine. But, if it proves effective & side effects prove to be minimal, would most likely eventually get it. But that has little to do with Bill Gates and more to do with undersanding that there's no way the vaccine will undergo the normal vetting protocols & the alpha test is rarely as good as the beta version & they could likely still plan improvements beyond that improving the efficacy & decreasing the side effects. Were my status be more high risk, would be willing to be way closer to the front of the line. -
Wonder how much that would screw their electric grid? Can't even imagine how much devastation could be caused to 400 MILLION people living downstream. Agree, hope it doesn't fail.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Really can't see a single person here not hoping they come up with an effective vaccine. But several do take exception to the sentiment (which isn't yours) that nothing should fully reopen until a vaccine is available. There's predictions one could be ready by October, but they really don't know whether that prediction will bear out. We can't stay closed until there's a vaccine. -
How is not calling police protecting people of color by not reporting instances of property damage unless they assume all instances of property damage are caused by people of color? Which is a rather racist sentiment for them to have.

The Deep State War Heats Up
Taro T replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You must have edited it after I'd already started to quote it. (Got delayed in finishing the response so it's very likely you edited it after the response was started.) So, drag on further it does? Bummer. -

Definitely not an expert, but that seems to be the consensus opinion that Judge Sullivan wouldn't get enough judges interested in taking his side in an en banc hearing, so he's cutting his losses and leaving with a shred of his dignity left. Hoping that's the case. And it would make sense that General Flynn expects that as well as he hit the talk show circuit last and that would seem to be a foolish thing to do if this could still drag out further. -
The Mizzou/Yale/PC/Free Speech Topic
Taro T replied to FireChan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
3,281 deaths & 2,249 deaths respectively. Which stinks; that's about 5,500 more deaths than anyone would like to see. Would sure hate to see how badly a state with 24,782 deaths must be run. -

We'd be worried about you if you did get it. But, it was nearly genius. -
Who will be the next Republican Standard Bearer for 2024?
Taro T replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Purely guessing that it would be Crenshaw or Haley, but preference would be Grenell. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Absolutely. And IIRC, as comparision NYC was topping out at ~900 deaths / day and ~24,000 positive tests. Going off memory there as NYS though it still shows totals on its Covid webpage now only shows data from the past week on its trendline. (Nice job, Andy. Certainly people will forget how bad things were in state now that they can't easily see the true daily peaks anymore. ) -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Doubt he'd shut the state down at this point, but a strong case could be made for increasing "social distancing" measures if the hospitalization rate (or worse, the death rate) goes up much more. -
AND the slam poetry unit!?!?!?! Bringing out the full force of the man?!?!? That seems disproportionate. They only killed ONE person; the interpretive dance team should be able to get this done with some help from the social workers.

Well, this one MIGHT be real; the guy's a Republican after all. #### all of those sick bastages regardless of how they identify. They will be well identified in prison & probably won't like their new designations. The 2 most surprising/unbelievable (from a 2016 perspective) things we've learned since 45 came into office is that the former administration was actually spying on an American political campaign without cause / due process & that human trafficking is as extensive in this country as it is. Kind of like finding out there was a 3/4 mile ring marked with columns 30' wide and 15' deep built 4,500 years ago less than a mile from Stonehenge. Stuff only becomes visible when you look for it & someone actually has the courage to challenge the collective wisdom / common sense. -
Was it past curfew or not? (Thought this occurred just after, if it happened before, yeah, walking in a public space seems to not cross the legal/illegal threshold.) Even if it were just after curfew would've been surprised to see him arrested for simply what had happened to that point.

If you go to the CDC's Covid info page, there is a map of the US. Clicking any state on the map will take you to that state's health department and almost all have the link to their COVID info pages on their own homepage. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html
