The way I remember it, it was more of a case of him not dignifying the offer with a response. Apparently, he felt the reigning CotY should have been offered a multiyear deal, and the 1 year deal wasn't worthy of a response.
-
The Sabres/Darcy gave him an offer of a 1 year extension. He ignored it for about 3 weeks and the Sabres eventually withdrew it and signed Lindy.
-
Or just MAYBE, the guy doesn't have an NHL head coaching gig because he turned down 2 offers to be a head coach (Buffalo and Tampa Bay) and has turned down at least 1 offer to be an assistant coach. Throw that on top of not getting along with your front office (it was so obvious that he and Muckler couldn't coexist, that Muckler got fired) and your best player, and then I think we might have a reason WHY the guy isn't an NHL head coach. It MUST be because he's an Indian.

No, no, the Secret Service waited 3 hours before allowing Whittington to be transported to the hospital because that's how long it took to get him to sign secret papers in which he agreed that the "accident" was entirely his fault and that Dick Chaney had no involvement in the incident whatsoever. Heck, Chaney wasn't even there. Uh huh.

I didn't know he had EVER held a press conference as VP. How in the world did I miss the last one?

The al-Tikriti just means that the guy is from Saddam's hometown of Tikrit.

It all depends on perspective. Compared to Randi Rhodes (sp?), Ed IS a moderate. Heck compared to her, Ed's a Republican.

You're right. It is non-news. It's the US (and hopefully other nations as well) following through on claims that they won't support regimes that support terrorism. I wouldn't necessarily call that promoting "regime change", although either MSNBC or the NYT does. Failure to give money to a government that supports policies that are directly contradictory to US interests is not directly inciting "regime change".
-
Instead of considering it "regime change" like the NYT does, I would consider that a policy of actually following our stated policy. Theoretically, the US does not deal with terrorists. Hamas definitely supports and performs terrorist activities. The Palestinians elected the terrorists. If they want to be governed by terrorists, there should be consequences. Not giving them tons of money could reasonably be expected to be one of those consequences.

There are many examples of rookie goalies that have performed very well in the playoffs including Conn Smythe winners like Dryden and Roy. My concern with Miller in the playoffs is that he looked extremely ordinary in the playoffs last year and the year before in Rochester. Hopefully, the season he has had this year and the extra year of maturity will allow him to significantly improve his postseason play. But, until he shows he can do it when it really counts, I will be holding my breath. I hope the Sabres get Philly, Tampa, Boston, or the Rangers in the 1st round as I like the way the Sabres match up with them and think Ryan will have some pressure lifted from his shoulders against those teams. (I will be cringing when Jagr has the puck, but if the Sabres stay out of penalty trouble he should get a limited number of shots.) The Sabres don't match up well with NJ and I don't think Ryan could outplay Brodeur which he would have to do. The Sabres would likely lose to Ottawa or Carolina, but both series would be extremely entertaining and the Sabres could possibly surprise me. The Sabres should beat Atlanta, but if Kovalchuk, Savard, Hossa, and Bondra overwhelm Ryan and Lehtonin finally learns how to play it could get ugly. I'd expect Buffalo to beat Montreal, but it would be a 7 game series as Montreal plays very well against the Sabres.

How many forum members to change a light bulb?

WG, that's actually pretty cool. A Lamp LAMP. -
You would rather have your team miss the playoffs because they "do not have enough talent to go anywhere in the playoffs"? That is truly sad. You've got a goalie that has pitched 2 shutouts in a row, in a league that 6 and 7 seeds oftentimes have legitimate shots to make it to "the show", and you would rather see someone else playing the last week in April? That's not just sad, that's borderline pathetic. The league is at the beginnings of having "good" free agents available and finishing 9th gives you no chance at a top 5 draft pick and only moves you up at most 5 slots over finishing 8th, and you would rather miss the playoffs to "rebuild". Wow.

Ryan Miller will get Buffalo its Championship

Eric Staal's not a rookie. Dion Phaneuf of Calgary is a rookie though, as is Svatos in Colorado. -
Who honestly thought there was any reasonable expectation that anyone other than Tim's mother would be able to make that statement and mean it before this season began? Connolly has far exceeded my expectations this season.

Actually, out of the handful of lefties I've heard, I'd say Ed Schultz (sp?) is the closest thing to Rush that the left has. He's with "Mother Jones Radio Network", not Al's one. -
Swados was the team's Corporate Counsel from day 1. He was #3 in the food chain behind Seymour and Norty. I believe he held a minority stake in the team as well.

The Wall and OTW. Why does the main wall suck?
Taro T replied to The Dean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dean, It's an interesting theory (actually, throwing the CTW theory in there as well, it's 2 interesting theories), but I think the problem with the main board is simply that the Bills are in a very bad / chaotic place right now and no amount of wishful thinking by posters will change that. Considering I spend far more time on the Sabres board than the main Bills board, I am very glad SDS separated this one from the main board. If threads such as the "peanuts in the doorway / my (former) coworker is a loon" thread were kept on the main board, by the time I got over there they'd be buried under 200 "so and so should be the next DC" threads. I'd miss all the classics, at least until it gets close to draft time and there is a reason to venture over there more than once every week or 2. -
It's not a retatta factory by any chance is it?

It also works with Springsteen's "Rosalita", as do the lyrics of "Gilligan's Island".

It would be pretty scary to think someone would actually listen to her on this one (assuming she hadn't said "just kidding" or whatever). An interesting (at least to me) aside in all this is, she said this in a "lecture" at a "traditionally black college" apparently located near Little Rock. If she doesn't say something this mind-numbingly stupid, I still haven't ever heard of Philander Smith College nor did I know people anywhere (much less at a southern predominantly black institute of higher learning) actually PAY HER to "lecture". I chalk this up to a well calculated publicity stunt. Not only is her name in the public eye, but now if a bruhaha erupts, she uses it to forward her already annoying agenda (which as near as I can figure is primarily self-promotion). -
Unless you were supporting the roommate, it does not look like you could claim head of household. The 1040 instruction booklet describes who qualifies to claim head of household. On federal, you may claim yourself as a dependent provided someone else (like your parents) isn't claiming you. It varies state by state as to whether you can claim yourself or not (in NY, you cannot claim yourself as a deduction). You can (within reason) claim any number of deductions you want on your W4's, this only affects the amount of tax that is withheld, it doesn't affect your tax liability. By claiming 0 dependents, you likely had more money withheld than you will owe and you will end up with a refund. Disclaimer in case anyone working for the IRS is on the board: I am not a tax professional and don't claim to be.

EII, come on, there are wack jobs on both ends of the spectrum. The Unabomber didn't kill people? Tree spikers and people that firebomb research labs aren't exactly "peace loving". It is truly sad that people like Coulter and Rhodes find audiences on the airwaves. They have the right to spew whatever nonsense they want, but there is nothing in the Constitution that says people have to listen to it. -
But if people who actually understand what was going on, what should have been going on, what was done well, and what needed improvement are conducting / have conducted a review; is there anything to be gained by having congresscritters grandstand? I don't see where congresscritters can do anything in a situation like this for non-political reasons.

Gee, if you're willing to give us Allison for Biron, I'd be willing to give you Peters for McCabe, that's almost an equivalent deal. I'm not sure how Allison's incentives are structured, but his current salary is $1.5MM but he's counting $4.5MM against the cap according to THN. You are right about them screwing up by resigning Belfour. Paying over $4.5MM for your team's 2nd best goalie is not a bargain. I'd have been surprised to see Quinn do any better primarily because he has a history of being enamored with higher priced veteran players which is a large part of the reason TO had several players that had to be bought out this off season to get under the cap.

No, that's moving beyond the Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, or Al Franken level of stupidity and into the Randi Rhodes (sp?) level of stupidity.
