Do you pick up a Tampa / Central Florida sports channel as part of your usual package? A couple of times (literally) I have had a DirecTV CI channel blacked out and then had the feed from the other team not blacked out down in the Sports Network Band (600's). Didn't see any rhyme or reason for the switch. I've never been able to figure out how they decide which feed is the CI feed, so if you don't have additional sports channels I have no idea what happened to your feed. If you call your provider, I'd guess they can explain what happened. Who knows, they may even give you a discount if you mention the magic word "cable".

It's Official...(for those who don't PPP)
Taro T replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Absolutely, and the US will be paying for this one for a long time. -
How do you get robbed when you trade a $5.333MM BACKUP goalie for a $1.9MM backup goalie straight up? Even if Theodore regains his form in a season or 2, and I really doubt it would ever happen in Montreal (far too many distractions for him there), that is a lot of money to be tied up waiting for it to happen.

Very true. Plus, remember San Jose only got a 2nd rounder for Kiprusoff when he went to Calgary. The 2 Mikas were at fairly similar points in their careers when they were moved. (Both were buried behind entrenched starters.) The Mika trade isn't the end of the world. I would like to have seen Marty become a D-man, but if it wasn't there, it wasn't there.

Port Deal Just got more interesting
Taro T replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I understand the political reality and why the congresscritters are doing what they are doing. I shudder to think what repercussions blocking this deal will have. Long term, the US is definitely sticking it to ourselves. -
You think she'd have a problem with that one? I dunno, it sounds good to me.

Good answer. Suave and sophisticated.

The sad part is almost all of them are true / correct.

Saw part of a quick interview with Ralph on Channel 10 in Rachacha. He babbled something that I didn't catch and then said he voted no because the owners didn't have enough time to look at and fully understand the proposal they were voting on. So it sounded like he might have voted yes if he had had time to have someone look over all the fine print for him. EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see the "Ralph didn't understand proposal" thread when I posted this.

Alabama Church arsonists nabbed.

I wonder if they will think the "joke" is still funny when they are spending the next 20 or so years in jail? How flippin' stupid can you get? -
So, how'd you manage to say "heck yes" without her going Lorena on you?

Isn't he supposed to be "drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's"? Rahooo, fish heads of London. Rahooo.

Yes, I was responding to X's q.

I didn't say I wouldn't trade Marty for a rental, I wouldn't trade him for a rental that brings what McCabe brings. McCabe is a powerplay specialist and is suspect in his own end. The Sabres have one of the top powerplays in the league. I don't think that what McCabe would bring to the Sabres would be worth more to the Sabres than a #1 and #2 would be (especially when that #1 would likely be a lottery pick). I agree with you about the value of McKee and am very unhappy that the Sabres aren't currently trying to sign him. I also am not happy that Briere is UFA next year.

I have to believe that Darcy could have had that deal because Marty is much younger than Rollie and IMO a slightly better goalie. It appears that Darcy wants a player for Marty but would be willing to settle for draft picks for Mika. Maybe that deal was there for Mika until Mika lost 2 straight in Rochester. I really thought the Sabres could get Spacek out of Edmonton for Marty (not sure what draft picks would have been exchanged to even the trade), I guess not.
-
At his price, there is no way I want Sundin. Can't really see much of a reason to trade Marty for a rental (McCabe) either. I'd rather get reasonable draft picks for him that will help Sabres long run than getting a rental that is suspect in his own end. I can see TO trying to get McKee next year, but IF he leaves Buffalo, wouldn't he want to go to a winner and not a team in salary cap h*ll?

Not sure if this holds for people watching on cable, but it will definitely hold for satellite - it is annoying to watch the game with the audio about 4 seconds ahead of the picture. The question is: is the delay more annoying than the B's announcers?
-
Not an option under the new CBA.
-
He's Craig Laughlin. And you are correct unfortunately (the guy was a star at my Alma Mater a few years before I got there).
-
I have to agree with you on that one, but the Caps announcers give them a good run for the title.

Why does the Sabres website suck?
Taro T replied to Catholic Guilt's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you don't mind my asking, what did you do that caused the league to sue you a first time? And if you don't mind a further question, what was the end result of your 1st run in with them? -
Bush, Chertoff warned before Katrina struck...
Taro T replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That would be a great thing if they can pull it off. I consider myself to be a libertarian but rarely if ever consider voting for one of their candidates because far too often they come off as a bit wacky. -
Bush, Chertoff warned before Katrina struck...
Taro T replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I would go with a system where there were straight no leaks, but also (and importantly) only material that could truly compromise national security would be classified. Not much of a chance of the 2nd part happening unfortunately. -
Fukuyama: Bush Doctrine in Shambles
Taro T replied to Mickey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
In answer to your previously avoided question, yes I did read the article. His comments which you quoted regarding "The End of History and the Last Man" from the article seem to directly contradict his own words IN the book. It seems to me that his more recent comments regarding EoH are splitting hairs and trying to change the focus from liberal democracy being the end point for nearly all societies to these neoconservatives tried to force liberal democracy down these other peoples throats and were wrong in doing so. I don't agree that his original premise was correct. In a liberal democracy (or in a ruthless authoritarian regime and pretty much anything in between) there will be corruption. Until people find a way to avoid and remove that corruption, there will be striving toward something better (history will continue). While it may be possible that the "Star Trek" future comes to pass, I'd highly doubt it. -

I was referring back to X. Benedict's comment about his book "End of History", not the article that Mickey quoted.
