A fun game from 1979, Packers at Bills
Sargent Hulka replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would put him 4th all time, behind Josh, Kelly and Kemp. -
His defenses in Buffalo '64 and '65 were stellar. In fairness, when he took over as Head Coach in 1966, the Bills were on the decline. After the loss to the Chiefs in the 1966 AFL Championship, the Bills won four games in "67, and only one game in '68, which is how they got OJ.

Good info, also appreciate your insights over on the Aud Club forum.

Beane is the most overrated GM in football. Without hitting on Josh Allen, his overall drafting can be considered spotty. Add to that the awful cap mess he's created. Allen is going to be wasted with this owner and regime.

I always liked him. I remember 1967 was being called "the year of the Ram", but they couldn't get it done. Still, one of my favorite teams, with Roman Gabriel, Jack Snow, Billy Truax, and George Allen as the maestro.

Marvin Harrison Jr wants to be a Bill
Sargent Hulka replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
You can watch the Bills draft every year. I'd rather watch them win the Super Bowl next year. Make the trade! Some times you have to swing for the fences, which are not for the faint of heart. -

You absolutely do make that trade. Reason: the future is now with Allen, not 4-5 years of cost controlled contracts. -
In other news...Josh Allen rips pants in Paris

I'd much rather see Travis, a World Champion, and TS, than this "also ran" and his Hollywood strumpet. America loves winners, and will not tolerate losers. -
Does this team actually have the guts to move on from Tre White?
Sargent Hulka replied to Jim's topic in The Stadium Wall
I get that, but how many seasons does he occupy a roster spot solely because management fears repercussion sentiments by releasing him? -

While I think you could have stated your preferences with more decorum, I agree that for the money and cap hit, it's time to part ways with White, possibly with some injury settlement. I can agree on Knox too, given his value/cost ratio. There's no question, whether "true fans" will admit it or not, that Damar Hamlin is not an NFL roster worthy performer at this point, and that he was only kept around this past season because of the bad PR that releasing him would have presented. If fans don't think PR is a vital consideration in front office dealings, just look at how the Matt Araiza and Leslie Frazier exits were delicately (if not cowardly) handled. I also believe it's time to take the cap medicine hit and release Von Miller. The bottom line is that it's a business. -
The relationship between management and ownership is too cozy with this franchise. Same with the Sabres.

Never thought I’d say this. Sean McDermott is a stupid coach.

"There are a lot of execution issues,..." Then simplify the execution, or change the personnel to those whoo can execute. -
Most of this falls on Beane. His drafting success is 50/50 at best, and other than the Von Miller splash(which this year has been a disadvantage), his free agent additions have been mediocre.

Four Super Bowl losses in a row is as painful as it gets.
-
Morse was always a bad signing; concussions, and he frequently gets overpowered .
-
Call me underwhelmed with Aaron Kromer.
-
This is not a championship team, and Beane has it in cap purgatory. McDermott peaked at 13 seconds. It's all down hill.

49ers got screwed by the the officials on a Cleveland 4th down incomplete pass, called for a phantom blow to the head by a DB. SF had the game won right there, under two minutes. Instead, Cleveland got a new set of downs and scored.

Buffalo / Jacksonville 2nd half game thread
Sargent Hulka replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pretenders...this is not a championship team. -
I never said I knew who the scout was, but one of them sure made the recommendation. Goober! Ignorant statement? Who the f**k you think you are, A**hole?
-
My biggest takeaway is that whoever the college scout on Beane's staff is that recommended Elam as their 1st Round pick, he should never again be involved with picking that high of a selection. Honestly, some of the Bills scouts suck at their job.

Rich stadium...Old timers question

Looking at the stat line, OJ Simpson did not appear in that preseason game. I don't remember why, but given the season he would have, I think having him in that first game at Rich would have made a huge difference in the outcome. I love the ad on Page 18 of the Courier, for "Sestak and Maguire's Arches", at 2766 Elmwood Ave., featuring the Sal Vaccaro Duo. -
