I'll one up ya. I am also a - yikes! - Atlanta Hawks fan.

I can tell you after living in both the Philly and Atlanta markets that their sports radio is 10 times better. Not even being a fan of any of the teams (except the Sixers, Hawks and Braves) I listened to them constantly. They know their stuff and don't let callers get under their skin - unlike WGR. If you ever get a chance, listen to WIP on theWeb, and you'll get a true sense of what I am talking about. The sports guys - Anthony Gargano to Howard Eskin are held in high regard - some like them and hate them, but they never come off as whiners. In Atlanta the guys on 790 the Zone will match sports knowledge with anyone. Chris DiMino, Steak Shapiro and Nick Cellini would never be challenged on their knowledge. BTW, anyone who knows about Atlanta, knows people don't really care about the pro teams. It is all Georgia Tech and Georgia Bulldogs 24-7. (I don't get it, but college sports rule the South.) Because they did not sell out Braves playoff games is not surprising when you make the playoffs 20 straight years.

Eric Moulds used to pull his Land Rover up to the doors of the Tower 2 dorms at Buff State and pick up this white chick who would bartend at Bourbon Street on Forest in Buffalo. This was back sometime around 1996-1998 (?) when I was dorming there. On night at Bourbon Street E. Moulds came in with some dude to see his lady bartending. The DJ yells into the mike "Eric Moulds" in the house!" He got his boy to get him some Michelobs and change for the Trivia Whiz even though it was his girl doing the bartending. The bartender chick had a nice body, but boy hair. She used to lay on the bar and let people do body shots off her. Two words for that ... NICE!

To be honest, I don't think the people in the national media care what the people in Buffalo think. They don't mind ticking off one of the smallest sports markets in the country. Do you expect them to take cheap shots at New York and upset more than half of thier viewing audience? I've lived outside of Buffalo for almost six years and you never hear about Buffalo unless it is about the snow storms. The Bills get their highlights on Sunday's like anybody else, but there are never big feature stories or anything like that on the pregame shows. Following the Sabres is nearly impossible unless you get the NHL package, listen to WGR on the Internet, scan the box scores in the paper or wait for Barry Melrose's 30-second spot on SportsCenter. No one in the media outside Buffalo cares about Buffalo. But don't worry about what us think the national media types think about us — because they don't think about us. Sadly, until the Bills win the Bowl or the Sabres win the Cup, Buffalo will be a punchline. God knows what they'd be saying had the Bills won four Super Bowls, but they didn't so suck it up.
