  1. Day-after grades are such a waste of ink.  I guess we can thank the internet for only wasting electrons.

All of these immediate post-draft grades are LOL ridiculous.  The same "experts" who just issued pre-draft grades---without doing the same evaluations/tests/interviews as the teams themselves---compare what actually happened to what those "experts" said they would have done and then "grade" the teams on how much the teams agreed with them.  Since Mel loves Allen and Edmunds and I guess likes Phillips, the Bills get an A for agreement.  If the next "expert" hates Allen, Johnson, Neal and McCloud they get an F for agreement.

    Yada yada yada.

To be honest, Stabler and Namath were the only Bama QBs to scrounge up for comparison.  It's not a school that creates QBs.

You beat me to it (but I'd add Bart Starr), as did the poster who said coming out of Alabama hurts a QB.  Saban wants his QB's to be ballhandlers although Tagovailoa may force him to break the mold.  We all saw Saban throw Hurts aside at halftime of the championship game this year because ball handling the running game wasn't going to be enough.

Appreciate the OP because, all things considered between Bama and Cinci, nobody outside of practice knows what McC can do.

  3. I think I can safely say I speak for a lot of people when I say:  No.

Put down the mouse.  Back away from your Internet device.  Close the door behind you.  And let us not speak of this again.

  4. I don't watch Sunday night games so I haven't seen a lot of Collinsworth.  I was  surprised how bad he was tonight.  Constantly telling you what you already know and what you've already seen.  After a guy makes a great catch he tells you he has great hands.  After a runner makes a good cut he tells you he has great cutting ability.  After a WR outjumps a DB he tells you what a good jumper he is.  After a rugged play he tells you a guy is tough.  Really??  Y'think??

If Cleveland believes any of the QB's are head and shoulders above the others, they MUST take them with the #1 pick.  Kizer was a dumpster fire and the possibility of 2 QB's coming off the board between 1 and 4 is just too much.

But if you had Rosen, Darnold and Allen rated close to each other -- which would be the Clevelandy thing to do -- you'd be satisfied taking Barkley #1 and whichever of the three is left at #4.

As for the cost of re-signing, they won't have to worry about that for 4 or 5 years.

Somewhere I read that Daboll was this kind of QB coach with the Jets back in the day.  He was brilliant with X's and O's and film study but brought nothing to the table regarding mechanics.

Though you'd expect Dorsey - an ex QB - to have a good knowledge of mechanics and be able to teach it.

This is exactly the difference between an OC and a QB coach.

Trust me.  He's a damn good football coach and really put the finishing touches Shula could not on Newton.

Either way, I'll ask some Panthers dudes. But this was mentioned earlier in the week on the Panthers board.

I know I'm not a pro. But I love Dorsey. And have for 4 years.  He is the reason Newton really developed in to a QB before the last year and a half when he regressed to full retard that he is.  Newton is uncoachable. Dorsey did a lot.

FWIW Cam was an historically unfinished product coming out of Auburn -- didn't read D's, made few audibles, did not have any kind of sophistication whatsoever about how O works.  He was all raw talent, and remember he only played/started at the D1 level for one year.  I don't know what Dorsey did with him but whatever else you can say about Cam he's come a LONG way as a pro.

It has been beat to death, but that was a run pass option that Taylor chose the pass on.

Yes but I wouldn't have trusted Tyrod with a run pass option decision.  I would have run 3 or (depending on where the ball was) 4 times.  And maybe a quick hitter or two or a QB sneak instead of a slower developing play.

I'd love Bruce Arians, but don't think he'd do it

If he did -- and there's no way he would -- with Byrd the Bills would have two coaches who are fathers of former Bills.  (Jake Arians kicked for us years ago.)  I wonder what the record is for that.

  10. Makes sense for Jax because when they first made their deal for an annual game (like Bills in Toronto) they couldn't fill their stadium.  For all I know maybe they still can't.

Makes sense for Chargers because they play in a tiny stadium so all they have to do is swallow the travel (and have their bye the following week) to get a nice payday.

As for the Raiders . . . maybe everyone has to go at least once and they wanted theirs out of the way before they move to Vegas and a big new stadium.  Since they're running out on Oakland fans anyway, what's one less home game there and one more crap on the home fans?
