Practice Squad Signings Thread
Ennjay replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the Webb pickup too. FWIW before Gettleman got to the Giants you always heard around here in North Jersey how much they liked Davis Webb. Gettleman has a reputation for insisting on his guys and his ways so don't hold that cut against him. Or the Jets cut -- there's only room for one young/developing QB there and it's Darnold. -
Sunday 9/1 Cut /Waiver Update thread

Sounds like he was born to play in Dallas. Or Cincinnati. -
I agree and this doesn't bother me at all the way it would if he stayed in the AFC East. Good luck to him.

Kiko requests a trade (update: Traded to Saints)
Ennjay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting (to me anyway) comparison: today we're talking about two coaches who want(ed) to build their locker rooms just so. Kelly wanted Shady gone from his locker room and thought he was getting a player he could use in Kiko. Meanwhile, there's no way no how McDermott would want a Kiko (mediocre skill set, dirty reputation) in his locker room so any speculation about him coming back here is just us fans having fun talking about it. McDermott will keep a Lorax or a DiMarco around longer than other coaches because he wants them in his locker room and he'll let Kyle Williams score a touchdown because he wants to recognize leadership and character. Kiko's not that kind of individual. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kiko cut by Miami and end up in Dallas or Oakland. They have different theories about who you want to keep around. -
What are the chances he pulled a hammie on that last kickoff and goes straight to IR until 2020? And a slightly more serious question: suppose something like this happens and then a team lets the guy go with an injury settlement. What are the rules on re-signing someone like that? Are you banned for the rest of the year?

So the door is now wide open for Conor McDermott.

Notable league Cut Tracker and discussion
Ennjay replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone knows this but I'll say it anyway: a lot of guys with no prayer of making 53's (or at least the 53's of the teams they're in TC with) will be kept around this week so teams have bodies to run out Thursday night when they're not going to play people they want to protect. Otherwise I suspect it would be snowing cuts today and tomorrow because there's not much point keeping so many players around (90) when you're trying to prep for the season. -
Gumbel and Green were horrible last night
Ennjay replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True, shouldn't be on national TV because only the local fans care. It shows you how desperate the networks are for summer programming and the NFL is for summer attention. -
Gumbel and Green were horrible last night
Ennjay replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This gives me a chance to go off on something I always complain about. NOBODY follows all 32 teams. Nobody. But they all pretend they do. During the regular season the weekly broadcasters spend a couple of days prepping on the teams they're about to cover but most media don't even do that. The national guys -- the ones you catch on radio morning shows or ESPN or Fox1 -- all pretend they kn ow something but they don't. They have a little knowledge of, say, the top six or eight teams, and maybe the local teams (like the Jets and Giants if they're based in New York) but for most of the league they repeat nonsense based on last year's record and the same stories/rumors everybody else passes around. So if someone says once that Josh Allen is inaccurate, that's what everyone "knows" and keeps saying. And the Patriots must be good because they're always good. (I've seen nothing that actually analyzes the NE roster but a lot of predictions based on exactly that.) Other than Ron Jaworski in the old days, I don't think anyone spends the time watching actual games of the people they're spouting about. That being said, the OP was right here -- Gumbel and Green sounded like they did little or no research on either team and we're reading notes someone left on the table for them, like where each D finished last year. Was Ed Oliver in the game last night? Do the Bills even have TE's on their roster? Couldn't tell from those guys. -
This will happen the same day the Bills claim Kiko Alonso on waivers from Miami.

His sake? -
Warner started out in the NFL with Green Bay. Per Wikipedia, "Warner was competing for a spot against Brett Favre, Mark Brunell, and former Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer. While Warner was with the Packers, the head coach was Mike Holmgren, the quarterback coach was Steve Mariucci, and Andy Reid was the offensive assistant." Warner was cut outright, so no Green Bay PS. One nit: I believe the #3 QB runs the scout team (= this week's opponent) against the starting D on Thursdays. If you only have 2 active QB's, that means your PS QB is up. But I'm not going to argue that it's the same as real game playing time.

Beane keeps working that roster. I expect to see he's worked out a Ristolainen trade any day now.

Can Christian Wade be the 53 man roster this year
Ennjay replied to FLBillsGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sounds like the international allocation program is a paid internship. But if a player can't be promoted to the active roster, what's the point? To see if he develops enough to make the 53 next year? -
Unbelievable. This is a thread on the general topic, "the Buffalo Bills have too many competent offensive linemen to keep them all on their final roster."
-
Yeah . . . pretty much what I thought. And remember he's filling the spot of LaAdrian Waddle, not Will Wolford. He got caught up in the inevitable Jetness of being injured and a NYJet last year so I give Long a pass. He's no Pro Bowler and Morse is obvious the jewel in the crown here, but if Long is healthy he can play some. And yes, anyone who wants to use the term "inevitable Jetness" is welcome to use it.
-
Just wondering . . . at this time of year, 32 teams have 90 roster spots to fill. When you sign a street free agent that nobody else brought into camp, how good . . .

Just another reason why Rex and his crew was fired

From living in North Jersey, let me just add: yep. You're dead on. He also had a history of not getting along with (= undermining) the GM here. -
Would you want Marcus Simms thrown into the WR mix?
Ennjay replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could see persuading myself that one of these guys is no worse than whomever I would get in April 2020 with my 7th round pick, and if he's any good I get help now instead of next year. But I'm still not convinced I'd pull the trigger.
