  1. Let bygones be bygones was exactly my first thought, as so many others said here. Of course Saban deserved the Wall, and he deserved to have nearly 80,000 people show him some Bills love on a Sunday afternoon. Too late now for him to hear it. The bottom line on Lou Saban is that Ralph never forgave him for quitting the second time, mid-season.
  2. That's it. And by "young in those days" I meant the early 60's. Speaking of Al DeRogatis, he was convinced the Bills had a center named Albie Miller. (For those who came in late, it was Al Bemiller.)
  3. Or was it former original AAFC Bill George Ratterman . . . I was pretty young in those days.
  4. Actually . . . and you have to go back pretty far to remember this . . . the AFL started out on ABC before NBC signed the league in the mid-60's. Anyone else remember Chris Schenkel and former original AAFC Bill Paul Christman doing the games?
  5. It shouldn't be Browns because they'd sell out the Ralph anyway for that one. NO makes sense because Bills fans don't especially care. Of course, logic didn't apply last year, so . . .
  6. I wish we had a TE, but I think TO and Evans on the outside also opens a lot of opportunities for Roscoe in the slot (until he gets injured again).
  7. "A league source said there's "no chance" Crowell will be back in Buffalo." -- Washington Times Why would "a league source" know this?
  8. You do know Easterbrook is from Buffalo, right?
  9. Didn't Huff come from Texas? Seems to me Texas has a way with NFL busts.
  10. Here's something scary (to me anyway): I remember reading that article as a kid when it first came out. It was accompanied by the worst picture of the old Rockpile (War Memorial Stadium) anyone's ever seen, looking across a broken-up semi-paved parking area at a decrepit exterior wall. As I recall, Brock Yates, the author, was originally from WNY -- maybe Lockport.
  11. So hard to say. Starting in October meant he hadn't taken the punishment by the last 4-5 games that every other RB had, so maybe his production would have gone down.
  12. So what's to stop NO from waiting to re-sign him after the draft? If they want him and he wants to come back, it'll get done.
  13. Yes, he did! I'll give several posters Troy Smith not getting his chance yet. Charlie Ward went NBA in part because the universal opinion in the NFL was that he wouldn't make it. (Of course, opinions could be wrong. Kurt Warner and Tony Romo were UDFA's.) My point was just that college (Heisman) performance is no guaranty of future success.
  14. Gary Beban, Andre Ware, Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke, Eric Crouch, Jason White, Troy Smith . . . (Partial List)
  15. Here in the Tri-State Area, now that Mangini's out you hear relentless piling on from the media (TV, radio, newspapers) about what was wrong with him. You rarely heard much of this when he had the Jets job. Examples: THEN -- very small comments, usually just in passing, about how uninformative his press conferences were or how bland he was; NOW -- rants about his stonewalling and how he poisoned the team. So much for the alert and critical NY media.
  16. Serious question. Why does LA always seem to love USC football and not care about UCLA? Is it only because USC wins and UCLA doesn't, or is there something about the schools? Since USC is private and UCLA is a state school, all things being equal I'd expect it to be the other way around.
  17. This is the first negative I've ever heard about KC. Can you elaborate?
  18. Charlie Casserly on the CBS pre-game show: scouts say middle round. NOT 2 or 3. The difference between first round money (even late in the round) and any other is HUGE. Staying in to improve his draft stock is the right decision either way -- he likes college and doesn't care about money, or he wants to get the best first contract he can. Even if he moves up to the 2nd Round in '10 from 4+ in '09 it's worth it.
  19. Serious question (and I don't get NFL Network): Who is Charles Davis? Anybody know his background? Is he a former player and I'm just brain-cramping on him?
  20. Is he the second coming of Vernon Gholston?
  21. It's already been announced that in two or three years (when the Fox contract runs out) the whole BCS moves to ESPN (= ABC).
  22. For some reason I keep remembering two related things: 1. The week after the Comeback against Houston, the Bills went into Pittsburgh (#1 seed in the AFC that year IIRC) behind Frank Reich and wasted a well-rested Cowher team 24-3. 2. Didn't Pittsburgh blow the #1 seed two or three times under Cowher before getting hot that one year and winning the SB from the #6 slot, including that miracle giveaway by the Colts in Indy that should've knocked the Steelers out of the playoffs? I've always thought of Cowher as a Lou Saban kind if coach -- solid, knows football, tough, understands that you win and lose with your lines, but NOT a genius. I expect a bad team he coaches to get better but he's not a god.
  23. I'm in my league championship game tomorrow. Rivers leads the league and is at home in perfect weather, but Cassel has . . . us. Who do I go with?
