  1. I'm old enough to remember watching him. He was a Damn, DAMN fine football player. RIP Mr. Saimes.
  2. 20 years? You mere babe . . . The most pessimistic I've ever been was the year Jauron announced we would go no-huddle on offense and then fired his OC (Turk Schonert) after the last pre-season game. Then there was the year Harvey Johnson took over for John Rauch in training camp.
  3. Here's my personal problem with drafting our own Jay Cutler: it would be the first time I ever thought Bucky Brooks was right about something.
  4. Serious question: why is McGee still on the roster, given his recent history? I would've been less surprised if they'd cut him instead of Wilson, and I really wasn't surprised about Wilson at all.
  5. All I know is, as long as this guy's had the job the Bills have stunk. And the job comes with certain connections, if you know what I mean . . . (It's a really slow miserable Monday here in Jersey.)
  6. I'm guessing either Sanchez or someone who played for Arizona. Does anyone here know?
  7. I say this every year because it's true every year. There is always -- ALWAYS -- at least one QB who was OK in December, or maybe even a prospect in December, but then shoots up the draft charts because the experts get impressed. Last year it was Ryan Tannehill. The year before that, Blaine Gabbert and Jake Locker. I'm always amazed at the guys who get better every day without playing a game than they were playing every week. Maybe some guys actually are worth it (Tannehill showed better than anyone expected, but let's not get carried away for one season); others make you wonder what everyone was so excited about. That's where I am on Glennon: he could be this year's Combine champion who never does anything else.
  8. That's exactly right. It meant he started pro football in October every year.
  9. I'm looking at the Falcons 1st and 10 inside their own 1 and thinking, "this is exactly where Chan would go empty backfield."
  10. You don't remember Le Grand Orange -- Rusty Staub? Then there's rusty nails . . .
  11. I dunno about these guys. They both have hair.
  12. Exactly. The NCAA has been investigating for a long time. This is the Pete Carroll story over again: take the big $$$ and clear out just before the Sheriff shows up.
  13. I like Jerrah right where he is. One of the best things going for the rest of the league. Another GM in Dallas might actually know what he's doing.
  14. Yeah, I agree. I only meant in my OP that he's still a mystery in Buffalo. But if he's a mystery next year it will be somewhere else.
  15. OP was pretty much spot on but add this: Fitz is only gone if there's an adequate replacement, and I see him reworking his contract to stick around since there's no other demand for him. Thigpen will be cut in February. T-Jack is still a mystery -- for all we know he's exactly what Marrone wants.
  16. Y'know . . . you're not completely wrong, dammit.
  17. Something else different this time: I've been a Bills fan since the 60's and I can't remember the organization (read: Ralph) EVER being so public about the process and the candidates. I'm neither praising nor criticizing, just noticing. In the past whatever news we got was based on rumors and leaks. Even 3 years ago, the whole Shanahan thing -- go find something "official" that said either they wanted to talk to him or he wasn't interested. Everything was "sources say ..." Even announcing Chan was a surprise. This time around it's like courting Free Agents, the way PR's and announcements are coming out. Maybe this is just Brandon's marketing chops showing through, but I think we know more about what's going on in the search for a Bills HC this time than ever before and that makes it easy to jump to conclusions.
  18. This clip never gets old.
  19. Is this the new Russ Brandon slogan, replacing "cash to cap"?
  20. I thought the release on Chan yesterday said his entire staff had also been fired.
  21. Let's get real here. CEO is a business position. Figureheads aside, nothing in Jimbo's record shows he's ready to run an NFL franchise. He has no credential for picking talent or negotiating contracts or doing anything else that would help this franchise. I would love to see him involved, even as the face of the franchise as "President" (with real authority in a VP/GM), but I might rather have Thurman or Tasker or Talley making the decisions. Mary W. won't sweat the capital gains tax as much as the estate tax, which is a much bigger gouge even before midnight tomorrow. BTW, I'm not trying to flame the OP. I appreciate the sentiment. I just don't agree.
  22. If you're going to slam Ralph at least do your homework. He was on the AFL negotiating team and he had NFL contacts that opened the door because in the 50's he was a part owner of the Lions. He also bankrolled at least one other AFL team (the Raiders) in the early days to keep the league alive. The AFL was NOT a hot property in its earliest years. It wasn't until the AFL signed a deal with NBC around 1965 or so that it looked like it would stick around.
  23. I remember him from Channel 2 Sports and his Henry's Hamburgers franchise too. He wasn't natural on TV but I heard him speak once in person and he was tremendous. RIP Ernie.
