  1. A little off topic, but Al DeRogatis (anyone else remember him?) always called Al Bemiller "Albie Miller." I hated that and couldn't understand why no one at NBC ever corrected him. And Don Beebe from Tiny Chadron State. With Tiny Benedictine and Tiny Coe, is Tiny some kind of franchiser that opens up colleges here and there?
  2. A no-huddle doesn't have to be a hurry-up. A QB can stand at the line and use it to cut off defensive sub's with the threat of a snap, but he can still run off a lot of clock and keep the O (relatively) fresh. What bothers me more for the current Bills is that the K-Gun worked so well because everyone knew their assignments and executed them so well. Maybe it was a byproduct of the simplified game plans -- a limited number of plays to start with. Plus quality players executing at so many positions, not just the HOFers. But I'm not ready to expect the current O knows their assignments as well. The more deliberate calls made in a huddle make more sense to me than the shorthand signals called at the line.
  3. It's pretty telling that with something like now 53 WR's on the roster they cut an O-lineman to make room. Teams often say cuts are a numbers game. Absolutely positively not this one.
  4. I agree with your sentiment and I don't think anyone has a duty to help the academies recruit Division 1 athletes. But the services have historically allowed active duty members to participate in the Olympics (every American in the Biathlon, for example) and I always wondered how Stan Smith stayed on the tennis tour while he was an active captain in the US Army.
  5. I want to believe. I really do. I want to stop wandering in the wilderness and get back to winning football games and going to the playoffs.
  6. After going along with Doug Whaley (didn't work out) and Tim Murray (didn't work out), Ownership is fixated on the theory that third time's the charm. The fixation has turned into an obsession with 3's. Hence drafting Tr'e White, interviewing Trey Brown third after Beane and Gaine, meeting with Tre Boston. Anyone have a better theory? And if RG III is a free agent, ...
  7. Does he know anything about hockey? Maybe they can get a two-fer out of him.
  8. Other than Milano I like every pick for who it was and when he was taken.
  9. Speaking of douchey, who's the "Tony Dorsett" guy on the right smirking through the spot? How many ESPNers fired last week watch this guy on air and ask WTF?
  10. The best part of having Skip and Shannon together is that I only have to skip one show to avoid both of them altogether.
  11. So you haven't been to the Meadowlands yet?
  12. That would be so Browns.
  13. Compared to what else is available, yes. It's a bad year for QB's. There's no point in forcing it like we did for EJ.
  14. I said NFL teams -- you know, professionals.
  15. I've lived in four NFL cities and my current one has two teams. I've also been in a few others on game days. The short answer: Absolutely yes other NFL teams act like this with their retired players.
  16. Hard to beat Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell for biggest bust ever. They were first picks (Leaf overall #2, Russell #1) back when rookie salaries weren't capped.
  17. I've been reading a lot of critical pre-draft press lately about two guys who were bank-on-it First Rounders: Christian McCaffrey is a wimp who lacks the muscle or speed to separate in the NFL. Jabrill Peppers doesn't have an NFL defensive position and with his bad hands forget about him on offense. So for the sake of argument: who gets drafted higher and has a better career? (I know that's two questions but gimme a break here.) I say Peppers. He won't be a legit Pro Bowler but some D-coordinator and ST coach will find enough uses for him to stay in the league for years.
  18. I think you missed the point of the comment. Thanks for the analysis.
  19. I don't get it. The write-up and the clips say Jerry Rice can't hold his jock -- but he's a "day 2" pick. What's wrong with him? Is 6-1 too short?
  20. Then there was BEN Williams, really good D-lineman on several bad teams. The KYLE Williams of his time.
  21. More like Vlad the Imposter. When he played for the Jets he sucked out loud.
  22. Bill "Earthquake" Enyart, FB Billy Masters, TE Bill Simpson, S
  23. Aaaaaaand . . . speaking of blocks up the middle, we'll have a new LS this year. Stay tuned for more adventures.
  24. + this. Maybe it means McDermott wants to win now.
