Tim Tebow Brings his Magic to Memphis

Yeah, who needs good people in the world anyway. -
Any wine suggestions? (semi-LAMP)
Acantha replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I really enjoyed Anthony Road. They have a very good Red Table Wine. If you're looking for a little more fun (which I'm sure you are), try Three Brothers Winery. Not the best wine in the area, but they have bands playing on certain days and it can be a really good time. -
If you didn't like the first Dead Weather album I don't think you'll like this one either. I think there's some better tracks this time, but overall it's the same kind of sound. I love Jack White but I understand people not liking Dead Weather. They combine a lot of different sounds; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I like the uniquness of it. I don't think The Dead Weather compare to the Raconteurs, but I still like listening to pretty much everything White puts out. Some good releases this month and next. Besides the Dead Weather and the previously mentioned Gaslight Anthem, The Black Keys are coming out with a new one soon. I love those guys and highly anticipate every release. Completely different kind of music, but Jack Johnson has a new one coming out too.

Bills make front page....Yahoo! Search Engine
Acantha replied to JOHNNYFAIRPLAY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course the opposite is true as well. Reading this board, at times you'd think every player drafted by the Bills is diamond in the ruff that is going to break out and be our answer for years to come. I don't claim to know much about Wang, but I have tried to watch every clip of him that I can find, and I haven't been very impressed. Game clips can't tell you much, but since all I have at the moment I don't have high hopes. -
wow...
-
And Ed Wang is our cornerstone LT of the future. And our undrafted rookie free agents are all overlooked gems. It's a wonderful time of year.
-
This has been answered numerous times. He was inactive for part of his first year and almost all of last year, so he's eligible to for this camp. Same reason Brohm is there.
-
I'd be excited about adding Gaither, but I don't think I could be as hopeful about playoff potential. LT was only one of the key pieces needed to fill out this team. QB is the other huge hole at the moment, but we're also counting on a lot of youth and players transitioning to new positions on top of a whole new coaching staff with new offensive and defensive schemes. Can Edwards or Brohm make the leap to become solid QB's capable of leading a team to the playoffs? Will Wood be ready to start and be capable of picking up where he left off? Will the question marks about Gaither's work ethic be answered in a positive way, especially after getting paid? What's up with Schobel? Can Maybin and two late draft picks transition to LB? Can we count on a rookie DT and DE, both from small schools, to quickly make the jump to NFL level play and solidify a brand new DL rotation? Is the coaching staff good enough to whip a team in chaos into shape quickly enough to keep playoff hopes alive? These are A LOT of big questions to answer. Adding Gaither fills a big hole and if it happens it's a big step forward; I just don't think this team is playoff ready after one off-season no matter how good the moves are.

I've never understood the obsession with nicknames.

So no, I'm not missing something. It's still not a complaint against a restauarant, it's a complaint against friends.
-
If only there was some way to get through the whole meal without that annoying "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY" sign going off over your head. Seriously, if you don't want the song, don't tell them it's your birthday. Am I missing something here?

Kind of load of crap. Servers get more tips based on things that are out of their control, too. It works both ways and that's all part of the job. The fact that some servers decide not to write down the order gives the customer more reason to believe that the mistake was the servers fault, even if it wasn't. So why do it? Maybe they think it's impressive and will get them a bigger tip? Maybe it does. I know I've never personally thought the service was better because a waiter/waitress didn't write down my order. But if it's worth the gamble to them, fine; they have to take the bad with the good.

Based on last year and what I would expect to see this year, I think Gabbert would probably be the 4th best QB behind Mallet, Locker and Luck. But there willl probably be 4 different names 9 months from now.
-
I'd bet a huge majority of them do not do either of those things. Outside of handful of guys, all the pre-draft nonsense is just crap thrown against a wall.
-
My first was "why did the chicken cross the road". I've had that Why Can't I Own a Canadian" article saved for a few years. I've given it to a few people who insist on taking things a little too literally.

That had to be a little bitter sweet for Moats.

Professor Stephen Hawking: Don't Talk To Aliens
Acantha replied to /dev/null's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I wouldn't even say it's a general human trait. -
Anything's possible, but I doubt it. If Maybin does a good job (maybe not tearing up the league, but holding his own), the desire to trade him probably wouldn't be there. If it was, it would be another hole to fill. If he looks lost, stinks it up, and gets benched, nobody's going to want him. At that point you're just eating a signing bonus for almost no return. I don't see much reason that Maybin doesn't have a couple of seasons to prove his worth. Even with regime changes it not often you see high first round draft picks given up on so quickly. It's not as if Buffalo is right up against the salary cap line, and Nix has said he's not a guy who likes to sign expensive FA's, so there really isn't a monetary reason to get rid of him either.
-
Or what? I agree with Promo that with all factors considered, Maybin is now being put in a position to succeed. But realistically I don't think this is "make or break" season for him. He's basically starting from scratch after a poor first season with an entirely knew....well, everything. As fans we can huff and puff all we want about the mistakes of the previous coaches and front office, but it's not Maybin's fault he was drafted by the Bills with the 11th pick to play a position he wasn't suited for in the NFL. While I'm certainly hoping for it, I have no reason to believe he's going to come out of the gates kicking ass and taking names. He's a young kid learning a new position under a brand new coaching staff and with a lot of new faces around him. That's not a recipe for immediate success. What I realistically expect is to see dedication (in off-season activities and training camp) to learn and steady improvement through the season.

Lets just say the Bills pick #1 next year
Acantha replied to Decimus Fox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is assuming that Locker doesn't "Snead" his final season, but if the Bills have the first pick and don't take Locker, I would finally take the jump to the dark side and say that Ralph cares more about money than seeing the team win (something I completely disagree with). I'm not saying Locker is the next Peyton Manning and will be the best QB of his generation, but I think he's the surest QB the draft will have produced since Manning came out. I just think there's almost zero gamble with him. -
While I'm not excusing the taunting, I don't agree there was a "shove". All the kid did was slap Blount's shoulder pad, something you see a dozen times a game between teammates and opponents. It may just be a difference of perception, but "shove", especially a shove that would induce a violent response, means something very different to me.
