  1. There's always a lot of people saying "you have have the ball to score...you should always want the ball," etc, etc... Doesn't that count for the second half too? If you absolutely want to have the ball so that you can score, doesn't that same theory apply throughout the game? I say unless there's some extraordinary circumstances, defer. It's not like your offense isn't going to get the ball in the first half, and it gives you options later in the game. Are you down big and NEED the ball? Did a storm come in and it makes way more sense to dictate direction? Did their kicker get injured in the second quarter and now OchoCinco is kicking off? I just think having that decision later in the game when there are more variables you can account for makes more sense. And as far as the psychological aspect...I think saying, "Here, take the ball. You aren't going anywhere anyway!" is just as effective, if not more so, than, "We're taking the ball and we're going to score." EDIT: Reading the thread mabye I'm misunderstanding the rule. Doesn't defer mean that you get to choose whatever you want in the second half? You can choose to either get the ball or direction?
  2. It's been a while and I may not be remembering correctly, but I don't think that's true. Before the draft there were a lot of people who though Trent was going to be a second round pick (maybe higher). That's why they had the camera on him all day and kept talking about being surprised he was dropping so far. Not that that really makes a big difference in the overall conversation...
  3. I think he was right though, because his comparison was horrible.
  4. Doesn't sound like he's doing that well considering he was let go from the Bucs for failing a physical. Probably not the guy we need to jump right in to the lineup. As far as I can tell, Michael Gaines is out there. He showed glimpses of talent while he was here and would at least be a body until we get Nelson back. I think LJ Smith is available too. Not sure what his deal is. He was injured a lot last season, not sure if he's still broke.
  5. Gailey needs to figure things out this week with Fitz and Brohm. If one of them is going to get cut, he needs to do it and give them a chance to find another team before the season starts. Between OTA's and these two games, he needs to have seen enough to make a decision. The last 2 games aren't going to give him much more info. I'd like to see the position set so the guys who are here can get as much playing time as possible.
  6. Looking outside the box a bit and not picking the same old same old... Conference Winners: ACC: North Carolina Big 10: Iowa (Michigan will surpise) Big 12: Nebraska Big East: Pittsburgh (maybe S. Florida) Pac 10: Oregon (Stanford may be spoiler) SEC: Arkansas Kelley will give Notre Dame a BCS bowl win. Can't make up my mind on National Championship game because I can't decide on how the voters will swing. Between Nebraska, Arkansas and Boise. Heisman: Ingram
  7. !@#$! I slipped through time again, didn't I?
  8. Jennifer Connely movies being mentioned reminded me of another, House of Sand and Fog. Bonus that it has Ben Kingsley who can be one of my favorite actors when he's playing the right roles (unfortunately he's played some really bad ones too).
  9. I'm actually related to Ellen Burstyn in a distant cousin kind of way. Met her when I was a kid...before I had an understanding of who she was.
  10. Honestly, I can't really say. Either I didn't pay so much attention to that aspect of his game or I just can't remember. What I can say is that I remember him being fairly good at avoiding sacks, but it had more to do with getting rid of the ball on time than moving around in the pocket. I'll have to pay more attention to his movement this year.
  11. His size and arm strength are awesome, but he has weaknesses at the moment too. From what I can tell, he tends to look for the deep ball first...kind of the reverse Edwards. He has the arm strength to hit it, but he seems to miss a lot of open receivers in the mid-range. His long ball passes are all over the place. I've seen him throw between 2 or 3 defenders into the perfect spot for the receiver 40+ yards downfield, and I've seen so far off of wide open receivers you'd think he was throwing mid-sack. No proof, but it seems more mental to me. I think he just gets excited and his arm gets wild. I'm hoping another year in college will help with that. His other big issue is touch. He drills balls to RB's/WR's on 5 yard passes. He needs to learn how to change his throws based on circumstance. If he can show improvement on those two areas, he absolutely should be the first QB taken (based on what I know now about all of the QB's). But I think that's a lot to ask. More than likely he's going to be a guy that needs a couple years of good coaching to help him work his kinks out. All that said, I would be pretty excited to see him picked by the Bills.
  12. Don't agree with that. He had some bad throws, but his last drive, 2 minute offense, was handled very well. Found the receivers underneath the defense and moved the ball well. That throw across his body on the fun to get into scoring position was very good. Most of his bad plays were results of terrible protection, somthing pretty common for a young QB. He's going to need to learn to get rid of the ball faster when his protection breaks down...of course this is one of the biggest knocks on him coming out of college. Overall, he looked better than most of the rookies I've seen play (haven't seen Bradford yet).
  13. For his first game playing with 3rd and 4th string, I was pretty impressed. Looked real good on a couple plays, real bad on a couple plays, and ran a couple guys over for a TD at the end. Anyone dissing him for that performance is an idiot.
  14. Way to have no idea what you're talking about.
  15. Kicking ass and taking names is a good thing in pre-season too.
  16. Nelson was a big recruit and had a lot of expectations at Florida, but he never lived up to them. He would show his talent occasionally, making great catches or having a big game, but then would disappear for a few games in a row. Despite coming in as the expected #1 reciever, he was always down the depth chart. If he plays to his max potential, he could be a stud, but the fact that he never did that at Florida makes me pretty skeptical that he'll do so in the NFL. I'm hopeful though. BTW, Urban Meyer puts an incredible amount of emphasis on special teams, giving those players all sorts of "perks". At Florida, players fight to be special teams, so it's no surprise that he showed well last night.
  17. At this point, who cares where he was picked? He didn't have a say in the matter and the people responsible for the pick are gone, why rehash it over and over? Right now all that matters is if he can help the team. He may be a bust for a 12th overall pick, but that doens't mean he can't learn the position and help us win some games, even if it's only on 3rd and long.
  18. My first thought: Who the hell is Arcade and why are they shooting at John Stewart?
  19. Thanks. Guess I'll set up some reminders starting around end of September so that I don't forget to start looking.
  20. I've been wanting to see this for a while, and I think things might line up this year to do so. I've looked around the site, but there doesn't seem to be a "sign up for notification" type thing...does anyone know about when tickets tend to go on sale?
  21. Guess those details keep filtering in? While I'm not trying to defend the kid, even if those details are correct, it's STILL not clear that he has an intent to KILL. If he were standing over her and threw it on her head, you could make an argument. But throwing something at someone from outside of a car doesn't automatically prove anything. Someone earlier asked "what did he expect to happen?" How about breaking the window and scaring the hell out of the girl? How about hurting her? None of these things exuse his actions, but to say he only could have expected her death is a little outside of reality. Hopefully what is known and what was done is enough to get him put away for the rest of his life. Whether he meant it or not, you can't excuse what he did and IMO he needs to pay for the result, not the intent.
  22. There isn't even a way a witness could know that (unless the guy was a foot from the car) much less someone reading an article.
  23. As a Florida fan, I was expecting to see them ranked somewhere between 8 and 12 in the various polls, but that doesn't have as much to do with Tebow leaving as the changes everywhere else on the field. After all, Meyers won a championship with Leak, who didn't have the arm Brantley does and fit less in the spread. Granted, it's a big change, but there are bigger worries IMO. WR's/TE's are all either unproven or coming off injuries. OC Addazio has to prove himself without Tebow for the first time (I'm very skeptical of him). DC Charlie Strong is gone (this is huge). The defense lost one of the best MLB's in college, two very good DE's, the best CB in college, and a couple other good secondary players. I guess to sum all that up.....3 is too high, I think. Next year they should be looking to be at the top of the polls again. Ohio? Here we go again. I'm actually surprised Michigan didn't make the cut, even if it was at 25. I think as RR gets more time with that team they will be fun to watch and tough to beat. They may not be ready to win the NC, but I could certainly see them being in the Rose Bowl race. No matter how stupid these things are, there are two reasons I like them. 1, college football is CLOSE! I'm like a friggin teenage girl at a boy band concert this time of year. 2, USC nowhere to be found!
  24. Both police and shoplifter were sastisfied with the outcome.
