I wasn't saying it was crazy at all. I became so interested in it because I think it's great! I would love to get into it on a very small scale (like the chickens you mentioned) once I finish with my current job and hopefully end up in a place with a little space. I've looked everywhere around my area for farms that sell a variety of food, but they just aren't here. I can drive about 2hrs to find some small stuff, but not really worth the drive given what they offer. I won't be there forever though, so hopefully when I move next I end up in an area with better selection. Best I have here is a farmers market that runs 4 months of the year and sells out in an hour. Yes, York is about 3 hrs from where you are (you mentioned your county earlier...so not exactly sure where your farm is). Do you run, or have you given any thought to a CSA? Seems like it's getting more popular and is helping a lot of small farmers make a living.

My girlfriends father owns a ranch in MO...I have heard all about calving season and how stressful it can be. I'm very interested in small farm farming. Nothing more than an interest at this point, been reading a lot about it, never been around farming in my life. Started looking at it from an economics stand point, but quickly turned to being more interested in the local food / non industrial farming lifestyle. I'd love to check out your place (not that you were inviting), but the only time I get to the area is around Thanksgiving most years (when I visit my mother in York, SC). Figure I'd be missing out on any major activity that time of year. Same when I visit NY, where there are plenty of small farms and local food stuff going on. Unfortunately where I live, there really aren't any small farms within a 3-4 hour drive...just industrial stuff. Though I'm lucky enough to have a grass fed cattle ranch about an hour away. Get all my beef from there.

What do you grow? Do you work it alone or hire help? Just curious.

Who said anything about meat? Those burgers are as far a away from meat as carrots.

I just did this a couple months ago, not too hard. I'm out of the country right now, so don't have the web addresses, but you can do everything on-line and they'll send it to you stamped as official. If you go to the post office and ask about passports, they should be able to give you the info you need to get it set up. There's a website for the state of NY that breaks down into counties. -
They call her Trish "The Dish".

Craig Patrick: You're missing some of the best players.

I agree with the rest of what you say, but not this part. Whether it's blackjack or bust, I believe they are looking at this long term...like 5 years long term. It seems to me they are getting rid of players that either don't want to be here or just aren't in their long term plans. I don't think they have the idea that they are going to purge this year and either start winning next week or rebuild all of the holes in one off-season and be in playoff contention next year. These are just the first steps of a long walk. Again, I'm not saying it's the right or wrong strategy, just that I think that's what's going on. The Nix/Gailey regime has just started, so for them this is a new project. As Bills fans, we don't have that luxery. We've been dealing with this rebuilding for over a decade. -
Again, your jumping to way too many conclusions, including the one you pointed out of extending your link to property (just because you pointed it out doesn't all of sudden make it good logic). People are used to FD services being paid for by taxes, that isn't the case here. Obviously this fire department isn't required to fight fires everywhere in a certain area. If you have a problem with the way the town works, take it up with them. They decide that there is a seperate fee to pay for fire services, so either pay them or move. These people are expecting the FD to put their lives in danger to save their person or property and are offering nothing in return. I say they got exactly what they asked for, now they need to live it with it. Next time maybe they won't be so foolish to NOT PAY for emergency services. BTW, based on the article, the FD has nothing to worry about as far as legal action goes. This is a city/town issue. The FD followed the rules set out before them. If legal action is taken, it will have to be against City Hall.

Maybe you're reading an article that I'm not reading. There's nothing that said this was a fire that started in in a field off property. It said he wanted them to stop the fire before it spread to their house, and given how the article reads I'm assuming the fire still started on their property. When the fire hit the field on the neighboring property (whose owners paid the FD for thier services), they put it out.

I think there's a lot of jumps to get to the conclusion you came to. And the fact that they came only proves they were doing their job. There was a fire that could spread to the houses that paid for their services. They were there to make sure they could stop that from happening. This is what I need to know. He thought he'd save his money and get the service anyway. I can hear him now, "Hell, I"m not paying that crap. What are they gonna do, let my house burn??" Hope for his sake he didn't have the same attitude on his home insurance.

Looks like it, but isn't. My point was that his statement was correct.

Or much less time as the population increases and population dense countries like China and India continue to advance at unprecedented rates.

I'm just glad he got his 1 carry in today. Would have been a waste not to use him at all. -

Good chances that next years draft pick won't be singed until after a strike and new deal is worked out. When that deal is done there's a good chance there will be something in place to calm these high draft pick salaries down. -
Long since gone, but I always liked The Council for the same reason. Along with the avatar, I agree!

Considering they just lost Grant for the season, I suppose it's reasonable.
