Personally, there's a couple of guys that I think are better suited to making the transition and succeeding in the NFL (so guys that I'm quietly rooting for), but I don't honestly care who the pick is as long as they're not sitting back and waiting for the whoever happens to fall to them. Think that Rudolph is the guy you like and think there's a chance he could fall to you? Don't wait, just go get him. As long as it's someone they've done their homework on and believe can be their guy, do it.

Two firsts are just that, two of any number of picks the Bills can give up. There is NO team in more desperate need of a franchise QB than the Bills. There is no other team in professional sports that is in more need of a fix to the misery that they are going through. The Browns are close, but even they have been to the playoffs since the Bills. For once, the Bills need to actually ACT as desperate as they are and fix this thing.

Two firsts this year, a first next year, and maybe a mid rounder somewhere. If the Bills have a QB graded out to be a solid 15 year starter, they can give up every pick for all I care. I'll go to bed happy that night and not worry about the draft for the rest of the weekend...like the fans of most of the perennially good teams in the league.

U of Tennessee search for a HC is a hot, #rogue mess

I think if Fulmer had been hired at any other time, it would have been a much more popular move. The way it happened makes it looks desperate. And honestly, being in charge of football operations would be one thing, being the overall AD seems like a jump. He's obviously been around along time and probably knows a lot about the overall job by proxy, but I've never heard anything about him that leads me to believe he's especially qualified. That said, I haven't spent much time looking into it, so maybe it really is a great hire. -
I was talking about this with a friend today who said they shouldn't waste a bunch of draft picks trying to trade up for a QB. I'm so sick and tired of treating draft picks like gold. I"m tired of treating the off-season like the most important part of the year. I honestly don't care if they have to pull a Ricky Williams type trade deal with San Fran to get up and draft one of these top guys (to me it's Rosen and Mayfield). Whatever it takes, get it done THIS year. The drafts will work work themselves out after that.

I know this won't happen, but College Football needs to stop inching along and avoiding the inevitable. They need to realign and create 8 conferences, 16 teams each, 8 per division. Conference champions get in to an 8 team playoff. There is no doubt IMO that this (or something very similar) will happen, it's just going to take 15 years and a whole lot of bitching, moaning, and baby steps along the way. In the end, the money will win out and they'll just do what they should have done 20 friggin years ago.

I still think that's their best possible option, but it's hard to say exactly what happened in LSU the last few years. That program really went down hill from where it was. But he'll make them competitive again; far more than they have been the last decade. -
Herm Edwards Hired as New HC at Arizona State

Yes, strange. Not that hard to understand what I'm saying. Strange choice of jobs. Strange choice of hires. Guess time will tell. -

It's not that he can't work hard, it's that he's getting into one of the toughest jobs in football, for the first time, at 64 years old, and his time in the NFL will be worth almost nothing to him there. Any way you slice it, it's a strange move. -

Just like success in college means nothing in the NFL, the opposite is true. And recruiting is about WAY more than being a name (and an old NFL name at that). Like Yolo said, it's absolutely non stop, not to mention completely dog eat dog. I can't imagine this working out, but of course I've been surprised before. -

They seem to play worse against UGA for some reason. Unfortunately (for me and everyone else, not you of course), Alabama is just a juggernaut with so much momentum it's going to take a long time to slow them down (or a sudden Saban retirement, which would be nice). I can't say I know the nitty gritty about either team, but Auburn is overwhelmingly outmatched in those games yet has managed two wins. They had a couple bigger losses too, but overall I think they've played as well as can be expected. I didn't think much of the hire at the time, but he's exceeded my expectations, and I doubt they'll get better if he leaves. He may WANT to go to AU, and if that's the case money may not matter to him, but if I'm Auburn I do what it takes to keep him.

I only saw one game early in the season, and outside of that have only watched game highlights (from this season). So far, I haven't seen anything outside of physical tools that makes me think he should be a first round pick. I don't get it and usually just assume I'm in the dark on what makes him so well thought of since I don't see much of his actual play.

This tops the UT fiasco as the craziest story of the off-season. I saw the rumors, but right up until now I didn't think he would actually do it. Crazy. On the bright side, the Gators two biggest rivals are both in shambles, and that's just fine!

I just can't see Auburn letting Malzahn go. You have to pony up whatever it takes to keep the guy that can beat Saban.

I would think he would be looking at more of an advisory position at this point in his career. I agree, really strange move. -

I read an article recently that says he's hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on TT leadership. Not just rumor either, he was quoted in the article talking about it. Since they're not paying him he's trying to get whatever revenge he can. He's always been a nutcase, but he's a damn good college football coach. At this point, I would think UT would be in "beggars can't be choosers" phase. -

This insanity is really helping to take my mind of the Gators swan dive this year. -

At this point, Les Miles is WAY better than anything Tennessee should expect to get. If that rumor is true, they should be throwing money at him. On a side note, while Kiffin can be somewhat funny, isn't it really weird to have the gull to openly mock the school you completely failed at? Tennessee didn't make a mistake firing him, he was horrible. His hubris (and of course lack of talent as a head coach) is what's going to keep him at mid-conference level for the rest of his career. -
There's something to be said for scheming to fit your players, but in a rebuild like this one why keep trying to change everything for an average QB who almost certainly won't be around next year? I honestly can't believe that this move was made to "win now", no matter what coach speak comes out. I just don't see it as desperation as much as logical.
-
Yeah, I try not to read too much into these things, but that statement didn't make a lot of sense. McDermott was also different in the interview today. Maybe it's just because he doesn't like where the team is at and the two big losses in a row, but I don't know. The answers were more clipped and he didn't seem like the same guy. Not sure it really matters in the end. I think at some level the decision was made that Tyrod wasn't going to get his signing bonus next year and it was time to move on. While I don't think Peterman gives the best chance to win right now, I can still get behind that decision.

There's a crap load of talent there, but SO much competition for it. Realistically, UCF and USF, despite their better play, aren't really a threat to pull too many recruits from the bigger schools, but it still leaves Florida State, Miami, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and LSU all a very short distance from these players. If the Gators are going to be competitive again, they're going to have to start getting more big prospects, and in order to do that they have to find a steady coach and stop turning over every few years. As weird and ineffective as McElwain was, he was starting to recruit very well. Gators had a great class going this year....probably going to take a big hit no matter who comes in. At this point, I'll be surprised if it's Chip. I just think he has too much baggage for a FL admin that has been burned too many times recently.

I'm with you on that one...only it goes across many sports. After the Bills beat down and knowing what a **** show the Gators are right now I decided to have a football free weekend (the FL/Mizz score showed I made a good decision). But the Magic and Sabres have both had some blowout losses in that time, too. There's a very legitimate possibility that I am a curse.
