Grantland predicts Bills to be a cellar dweller in 2015
Acantha replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Getting a player on your roster without having to go through the FA process is part of trade value. Based on your argument, once Kiko signs a new contract, the trade value has to be revisited? What about if Whaley had waited until December to extend Shady? Would that change this whole thing? You're way in the weeds on this one. -

He might have, or he might not have. There's an infinite amount of possible things that could have happened. McCoy IS on the team, and he's here because we traded a first round player for him. Kiko's trade value was getting McCoy on the roster. -

I see where you're coming from, but it's not apples to apples. McCoy wasn't a FA and even if he was, there's a no guarantee he would have come to Buffalo. The fact is, that pick got us McCoy. Again, I don't think he purposefully left that out. My guess is he just didn't do his homework on Kiko's history. It doesn't change the outcome of those 3 picks he did mention. -

Yes, he could have included the other pick and shown how it included the McCoy trade. Frankly, there's probably very few people outside of Buffalo that remember that scenario. Like I said, I agree that EJ can't be considered a bust yet, but in an article about the Bills record this year, you can only judge by who is on the field. So far, that first round pick has not returned value for the Bills. It doesn't have to mean it never will. -

What that does not say is that the Bills spent 3 first round picks on Watkins. -

I didn't interpret his comment that way. I think it was more just a general statement on how the Bills have been using their 1st round picks. While I think based on what we saw from EJ in preseason it's too early to call him a total bust, I have never like the pick and as of right now, our last 3 picks have amounted to one starter and a backup QB who, IMO, isn't ready to step into the starting role yet. -
Trick Shot QB Alex Tanney Signed to Practice Squad

Making about a 100k a year sitting on a practice squad isn't so bad for a guy who really hasn't done anything but make a video. I'd call that impressive. -

Personally, I don't really have any issue with anyone's final win/loss predictions. As others have said, it's all up in the air at this point. But I do disagree with his analysis of the positions on the team. The OL has gotten better. They upgraded at WR, TE, and RB. The defense is almost the same with a dip at safety or CB depending on how the lineup shakes out. Looking at the upgrades and basically saying, "eh..whatever, they'll lose" just isn't an article I will get behind. Break down the schedule and matchups...like has been done in this thread, and tell me why they don't stack up against their opponents, and while I may disagree, I can at least respect the opinion. I get that reporters are just getting these articles out and don't have/take the time to do in depth analysis of every teams roster and schedule, but just because that isn't the way things work, doesn't mean I'm going to pretend to like the products that are out there. -

I think that's just too simplistic of a look at the whole offense. That journeyman and rookie are both better than what was there before, meaning 40% of the line was upgraded. If we downgraded 2 positions on the line, people would be acting like the world was coming to an end. Also, while I know it's popular opinion (not saying it's yours) that rookies should basically be at full talent right out of the gate, I don't think people should discount the potential upgrade that Henderson could show being in his 2nd year. That goes double for Watkins. Yes, he was good last year, but he was still a rookie playing in a historically tough position for rookies. How much better will he be? How much does it help to have a guy like Harvin on the field? And an actual NFL level tight end?? We all know the QB situation is up in air, but that article puts just as much negative spin on everything as the biggest Bills homer's positive spin. I do agree that Carpenter has me scared. -

Those videos are all about time. Throw a ball a hundred plus times and you're bound to hit your shot. Edit it together and it looks great. -

I agree with you on what WGR (and all journalists) should do if you're looking at it in a vacuum. I just don't think that TG should expect better treatment than he gives. -

But by calling out eball, PTR, LABillzfan, you're giving them more attention in this thread. You can't just ignore it? That's the same as telling them to ignore TG because they are only drawing more attention to him. I never remotely questioned his sources. People are free to disagree with whatever they want, including you as you are doing right now. Say something someone disagrees with, they're going to counter. Internet tough guys counter like thugs, and you are not above that yourself...just because you like to act like you're above it all at the same time you do it doesn't change that fact. People specifically dislike TG because he WANTS to be disliked. He goes out of his way to make it so. -

TG can tweet whatever he wants without waiting for a response (in this case, tweeting without a statement from Whaley), but nobody else can say anything without TG there to defend himself? Sorry guys, it's one way or the other. TG said what he did and Whaley responded later with a simple and professional statement. TG apparently doesn't have that filter. Say whatever you want about his reporting, but his public persona invites this type of response, so defending him is pointless. -

Who is taking this as life or death? Disliking a journalist for, at best, intentionally misleading his readers (if your explanation is correct) and often personally attacking people on social media (deserved or not) has nothing to do with life or death. It's just disliking someone who is a common figure in their entertainment world, and this is exactly the forum to talk about those opinions. You're treating this just as seriously as anyone else, and drawing attention to these posts why? Kind of the the same argument you used a little while ago. As for my take, I think you give TG way too much credit to think this kind of thing out. Saying that he has two sources contradicting the Bills organization implies he thinks he has inside info that you won't get from anywhere else. Following that up with "the move was unusual" is ridiculous. He's either a liar or a horrible reporter. -

You really think TG was saying, "Bills organization will remain unified when speaking publicly, but two sources tell me Doug Whaley (acted independently and wayward from the usual group) in cutting Fred Jackson." ?? TG was using the video game meaning. There's no reason for the tweet otherwise, unless he was trying to say he had two anonymous sources inside the Bills organization that dished the move wasn't usual. -
Been without internet for the last 5 days, so just want to add a quick you Whaley!

Or, you know...it's that people think he's a coward for walking up behind a group of unsuspecting people, shooting them, attempting to run away, and then shooting himself when it appears he will be caught. Sorry, not a whole lot of psychological digging needed to figure that one out.
