But what does that have to do with taking government money? Does it suck that people will lose their jobs? Of course. Does it suck you don't have a bonus coming? Sure. But if the bank has been doing good business, the scaling down should be enough for them to get through these times. When the economy picks back up, they will grow with it. The downturn has consequences. People are going to lose their jobs. They'll have to tighten their belts. Why is Citi taking money from citizens to hold itself up?

In my opinion: Keepers, in order: RB Fred Jackson RFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent CB Jabari Greer UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent LB Keith Ellison RFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent FS George Wilson UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent Gibran Hamdan UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent OL Duke Preston UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent DL Copeland Bryan RFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent Let them go: QB J.P. Losman UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent WR Justin Jenkins RFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent OG Kirk Chambers UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent C Melvin Fowler UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent DL Ryan Neill ERFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent LB Angelo Crowell UFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent LB John DiGiorgio RFA Buffalo Bills Free Agent I think it still leaves C, TE, and LB as our top needs. We'll need a back up QB too.

I have a sister that's a manager at Publix. I think it was about 2 years ago now she told me that Publix was thinking about making some big changes in that direction. I compared it to the pre-made stuff you see at most places, but she said it was a new thing that was going to, in a way, change the focus of what a grocery store is. She said, as Cinci stated, Publix was seeing huge declines in shoppers and decided they needed to start trying to bring in the take-out crowd if they were going to continue on. I don't live in the area, so I have no idea if any of that is happening.

How so?

It's not as if Banks don't make business decisions. They are just as much at fault for their failures as the car companies are for theirs. The bailouts are ridiculous no matter who they go to. And in the end they won't work anyway.

So people stopped going?

(LAMP) My Father Has To Change Churches

I was raised Catholic. Went to Sunday School, Mass every week, and Catholic school for 4 years. I know all about it. -

If it was Catholic church, I wouldn't have been awake to hear it. -

I hear ya. I'm not religious myself, but I don't have a huge hate for religion (individual churches or people is another story) and when I'm visiting with family who go to church I gladly go along. Recently I was visiting an uncle and his family and went to his church with them one night. They had a minister who had come in from another church (as he apparently did semi-regularly) there that night. He wasn't talking long before he started talking about the need to fight against the Muslim faith and what they stand for. He was going on about supporting Isreal and this and that. He was on that subject for about 20 min, the whole time I was getting increasingly angry/annoyed. I waited until he ended that topic and was winding up for his next thing and I quietly got up and left. Waited outside for about an hour until they finished. When my uncle asked me why I left I tried to be as polite as possible and just told him that while I don't attend church often, when I do, I don't go to be preached hate in any way, shape or form. Despite not being religious, I really respect the basic foundations that almost all religions are built on. I, like a lot of people, don't understand why it has to be taken to such places by so many people. Well, can't say I don't understand it. Just wish it didn't happen I suppose. -
Because I know a lot about economics and what is causing the problems. There were years of bad decisions and policies that led to what you are seeing today. Despite what you hear on the news, it didn't come out of nowhere.

Things really don't work like that Mead. No, it's not an attack.

By the way, does anyone think it could possibly be a combination of the UAW, fat cat CEO's, and government policies that caused this? Or is fighting over one or the other the real point?

Your pettiness is hilarious.

Nov 19, 1863. The Gettysburg Address
Acantha replied to stuckincincy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Guess it depends on what everyone wants. The fact is, the government that was set up by our founders is long gone. A good example of this is the fact that everyone is asking if congress "should" bail someone out, instead of "can" they. I find it hard to believe that the majority care though. And as long as we have the contrived competition of democrat vs. republican to hold the mass interest, we are a long way from reform. -

Leaders in government, including Lincoln, have been power grabbing for centuries. After enough time, it all comes down. -
Letting them fail will be a huge hit to the economy. It will probably be the knockout punch (at the end of a 15 round fight). And we should absolutely not bail them out.

Has Kiffin every recruited, or really had anything to do with running a college football team? It's such a huge job, and SU is so far in the crapper, I don't think Kiffin is the type they should be looking for (unless I'm wrong about him and he had far more responsibility at USC than I've heard before). EDIT: I just did a quick search, and apparently he did do a year (maybe 2) of recruiting after Chow left. Again though, I think there is a big difference between what he did there under Pete Carroll and what he would have to do as the HC of a team like Syracuse.

Do you think that no other company would be able step up and take the place of the failed ones? Are we really so stubborn and brainwashed that we can't imagine somebody else doing a better job that Ford and GM? It's that thinking that let the Japanese auto makers rise up and take over the market over the past two decades. Others will find a way to compete, if given the chance. You're right, bankruptcy laws and the PBGB are just as screwed up as the bailout. But that doesn't mean that it automatically makes the bailout better. You're still giving rewards to the worst run companies, no matter how you look it at. Let those secondary businesses figure out who they want to give their money to after the dust settles. Let the market decide who lives and dies. Those who decided not to run their companies into the ground will come out all the stronger, and it will encourage others to have strong business models in the future.

Somehow, the "UNCIFID" makes it believable. -
Try living in Hawaii. It's every day food, even in restaurants.

Or, the government could buy all the cars, gut them and melt them down, and then use all the material to build more cars. Not only will that give the companies added sales revenue, but it will SAVE them money on new materials for new cars!!! There is no wonderful scenario that will work better than anything else. No matter what you do, you are still giving companies money that don't deserve. Once you do that, you have proven to businesses that they don't have to make good decisions. There will always be some money to bail you out. Even if it does come with a good strong talking to. The financial institutions are proving that right now.
