Stafford Pretty Much a Lock for #1 Overall
Acantha replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really can't believe it. The way teams see players over the course of an off-season just baffles me. I've watched probably 80% of Stafford's games, and there is no way he is worth anywhere near the number 1 pick of the draft. At the end of the season I would have considered it a surprise if a team took a flier on him in the low second round. I'm always willing to admit that knowing how a player will do once they make the transition is a crap-shoot, and that any player can smash my novice opinions just from watching the games from my couch, but I will be shocked if Stafford is more than a backup 5 years from now. -
Not football related -- but the Jerseys from China?
Acantha replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Should stop at 1 cent cheaper. -
How insane is it that the freak was the one trying to get her friend laid??? Great thread either way, but I'm not convinced it was real.

Honestly, this just doesn't make sense. He's still on his rookie contract (isn't he??) and will bring in almost nothing in a trade. Why bother? There's no reason to get rid of a guy that can at very least be a back-up.

All who don't want to trade Roscoe...
Acantha replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You ever notice how QB's are never big name players in any other position? It's because you can let scrubs....oh wait. Maybe it's because it is a unique skill set? -

Can you imagine? Have him here long enough for all the ticket and jersey sales...and then trade him! That would be classic. -
what we DO know about our upcoming Bills draft
Acantha replied to BillsBum11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? -
I watch a lot of SEC football and have to agree that his rise up the draft boards in surprising to me. I would consider him a solid, rotational DE. I'd expect to see him in the lower part of RD1, not top 10. I also watch a lot of college football in general and think that there isn't a single DE in this draft worth taking in the top 10. Same with the QB's. Everyone is taking the best of a bad group and expecting them to be first class NFL players. Just doesn't work that way. Guess we'll see.

Sounds like a training ground for scientology.

I'd take them both if they are both available. Hangartner, Unger, and Mack can all Duke (he'd be my backup) for center and guard.

Pettigrew is a great all-around TE. His blocking is well documented, but if you haven't seen him play you are probably underestimating it. He is excellent at finding his blocks at the second level and taking LB's completely out of play, and he's he's agile enough that he doesn't let CB's get around him without slowing them down. He can also hold his own (more than most TE's I can think of) along the LOS in pass blocking, though I've seen people say he's like another tackle there, and I can't agree to that extent. He's good, but he's not up to that level. As for receiving? Everyone seems to be focused on the fact that he isn't a burner, but who cares? The whole "stretch the field" saying is so over hyped for that position. Pettigrew CAN catch. He knows how to find the open space in the field, makes smooth catches, and turns quickly to pick up what yards he can. He's even more dangerous because every time he releases people are trying to avoid him because they are expecting a block, but then he sits in space and makes the catch. Can't recall how many times I saw just that happen. This is exactly what the Bill need. They apparently have enough WR's....so much that they are trying to unload them now. Coffman was fun to watch in college, and will probably have some success in the NFL, but my bet is he gets his clock cleaned more often than not. At this point, especially with the Peters trade, there are half a dozen players I'd be happy with at 11, all of them along the lines, outside of Pettigrew. And if we take Pettigrew, there's going to be a part of me that stings knowing how weak our lines are, but a big part of me knows that he is going to be a very solid player for years in the league. He's not a highlight reel guy, but he's going to be a very good starter for a long time I think. Out of all the players I expect to available, IMHO he's the surest thing.
-
Of course it would be nice, but I can't see Pettigrew making it to 28....outside of an injury or character flaw that hasn't been publicized, there really isn't a chance of it. If they get lucky and he falls that far, Atlanta will scoop him up.

A last second shot is blown out? I think so too. Turk and Lewis looked rusty as hell yesterday. My guess is they come out firing Wednesday.

I'm more surprised that people are getting so antsy about something Clayton says. -

I've listened to all of the twilight audio books. I download audio books that I listen to while I'm at the gym, and since I'm doing other things I prefer to have books with simple plots that I can zone in and out of without missing much. Twilight more than fit the bill. I will say that the last book was actually entertaining, something I would recommend to someone as a fun throw-a-way book. The first one was downright horrible, and I'd put the rest in the "pretty bad" category. I really don't get how they caught on like they did. For anyone that likes Vampire stories, I still don't think anything beats the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles. Still some of my favorite fictions books.

Anybody here use the P90x workout system?
Acantha replied to el Tigre's topic in Off the Wall Archives
You can buy it many places on-line, including Amazon, but I think it's cheapest on their site. Beachbody.com is the best place for info. You can also go to http://forums.teambeachbody.com for forums of people using all of their products. The system is excellent, but just everything else that gets you in shape, you have to be willing to put in the effort. P90X requires more effort than most. The workouts are intense and the diet is very structured. Without the correct diet, you won't see the results that are possible. IMO, it's the best thing on the market, but again, it's not in any way shape or form a gimmick. It's just plain old hard work and good diet, something the vast majority of people are not able to keep up for long. -
But sci-fi shows HAVE to be on Friday!

I was actually going to post a thread about Terminator after I watched last week's episode. I think the show really turned a corner for me last week; it seemed to jump to a new level and got beyond the "random fun show to watch" designation for me. I'm increasingly impressed with the story line and character development, and especially the show's willingness to kill off characters, which is exactly what would be expected given the storyline (though I figured they would lay off to cater to their audience). Seeing everyone die around them gives a lot of depth to both the John and Sarah Conner characters. Where before I would have been disappointed to see it go, now I'll be kind of pissed if it doesn't get another season. Hopefully the new movie will give it a shot in the arm. I also hope Dollhouse (there needs to be a Joss Whedon show on the air at all times) and Kings (just watched all the episodes the last couple days and think it really has great potential) stick around. I think Kings is destined for failure. It's just one of those shows that's too big to make it now-a-days. I wonder if Sci-Fi could pick it up now that BSG over? I know it's unfortunately rare for that to happen. Oh, I have to mention CHUCK too. Certainly not a lot of depth here, but it's a fun show and one of my favorites on TV right now.

The pure nerdness of those twitter posts made them tough to read. Can't figure out what's worse, the posts or that so many people in that one theater use Twitter. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it too.
-
Me too. This was one of the few shows I really looked forward to. I liked ending enough, though it's certainly bitter sweet given that it shouldn't be ending at all. And you have to give these guys a bit of leeway, they only had a couple weeks to finish it up. They're really wasn't time to make anything else happen. I figured it would end with a coma scenario, which would have been okay given the circumstances, but I thought this way at least had a little imagination. If this show had been on 5 years and they ended it so abruptly like that with very little real emotion or story, I would have been a little pissed. But after one season and almost no notice to wrap-up, I'm pretty happy with it.

Would you recommend a move to Rochester?
Acantha replied to Acantha's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Hey, I'm not trying to dis your home. And I know everywhere has it's negatives, Rochester and Greensboro both have plenty on my list. But I have plenty of experience with FL, and it's not for me. I'm glad it is for you. -

Acantha replied to Acantha's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Like I said, I like the area alright, but I just really dislike FL. Property taxes are getting to be in the NY range, Insurance is absolutely ridiculous, the heat in the summer is unbearable. The state as a whole is going downhill. I lived there for about 7 years and go back to see family occasionally. I think it can be a great place to visit, but wouldn't want to move back there. -

30 and single. I'm really not looking for a bar/club scene or rowdy nightlife. Being my age and single in Hawaii has been friggin great, but I'm over that, at least for now. I like more active events. The little info I'm getting about Greensboro is all pretty much along the same lines....boring.
