Bills claim Incognito
Acantha replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the post. I didn't know anything about the guy before today, but after reading and hearing what everyone is saying, this is pretty much exactly what I expected. You don't get kicked off a college team and go from starter to released in the NFL without serious issues. My guess (or at least my sincere hope) is that the Bills have brought him in hopes he can figure out his problems and make the changes needed, but will have him on an extremely short leash. First sign of any of his old behaviors and he's gone. As others have said, why the hell not give a try. Probably a 99% chance the guy does exactly what he did at his last few stops, but as long as he really is on a short leash, I think it's a good move. -
I'm already sick of having this guy on the team.

What 'fanboy' or 'hater' fans were the most annoying
Acantha replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right now, the Tebow haters AND fanboys are annoying the hell out of me. -
Why would you assume that? Is there a thread about them where someone called them punks? If you care so little about Henry, it really makes no sense to take time to post something about him. Just yawn and move on. Instead, you went for the shock statement, hoping to get some attention at his expense. You are certainly someone to look up to.

I guess I just don't follow your line of thinking. Do I wish they had more comfortable and spacious seats? Yes (and of course they are available for a price). But this is like saying why give me a raise when my job still sucks. If your going to be crammed into a tight, uncomfortable seat anyway, isn't it better to have other improvements around you? And if those improvements aren't enough, as they obviously aren't for you, then you don't fly. But saying the improvements aren't worth it just because the seats are uncomfortable just doesn't make sense to me. If I can have a quieter, less exhausting, less dehydrating flight, I'm not going to turn it down.

While your post is basically just a big B word session, I'll still point out that the designers of the airframe have absolutely nothing to do with how much leg room you have. Airlines configure the planes how they want them. If they want less seats to offer more room for their passengers, that's how they will configure. Most airlines are trying to maximize profits. I doubt it would happen, but better fuel efficiency gives the airlines the option to offer more room (and make less money on seats). With all that said, it's still pretty short sighted to crap on the improvements that are being made just because it doesn't fix the problems you want.

I haven't read much about it lately, but about 5 years ago I did a paper on the difference between the business plans of boeing and airbus. In addition to the fuel efficiency, there are supposedly new upgrades that are supposed to make flight much more comfortable, including cabin pressurization and air recycling. Boeing tried to put a lot of attention into making air travel less stressful on the body. I haven't looked into any of it since back then, but if they were successful in those areas, it would be a big step forward imo.

Bills claim Incognito
Acantha replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking the same. Though I doubt it happens this week. I don't think they are as desperate this week as when they put Simmons in. I don't have much confidence (people dramatically changing their stripes just doesn't happen that often), but hopefully he can help. -

Maybe they could threaten him with that to make him behave for the rest of the season? -
Grimm. I don't really have a reason, I just think a guy named Grimm coaching the Bills is to perfect for fate to pass on.
-
I was thinking it was the 12 year old name calling that hurt him the most.

It's great having a guy that gets interceptions, but from what I can tell (it's tough to get a great read on what safeties are doing play to play...which is why I'm always skeptical of the insight around here), he isn't very effective in the run game. Despite the cries to the opposite, Donte is consistently around the ball (can I get a predictable "jumping on the pile" comment here?) and often makes great tackles when he's close to the line of scrimmage. I rarely see Byrd get to the ball carrier and when he does he's usually late. I hope he learns quickly. It's a shame to have his skill sitting on the bench.

Too bad there's nobody in your life to tell you not to make self serving replies that make everyone scroll something they already scrolled once.

Favorite "The Office" Character and Episode
Acantha replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm one of those people. Everything, from the storyline to the acting, just seems to have gotten stale to me. It certainly still has it's moments, but for me it's just not the same anymore. Anyway, looks like it's done. -
It was an all out bitz. Whitner was playing very deep because he was the only guy back there. He was the last line of defense against a PASS! The RB wasn't supposed to be able to blow through an 8 man front with one quick move. And no, no other SS in the league makes that play 10/10 times. Give me a friggin break. This has nothing to do with what I think about Whitner as a player over-all, so most of your post is superfluous. It has to do with what happened on that one play.
-
I finally got around to watching the game and was expecting to see a horrible play by Whitner. You guys are friggin nuts. The whole defense was up close to the line of scrimmage, the RB broke through and had a wide open field to make any move he wanted. He cut right and Whitner followed (had he not followed the whole right side of the field was open), then he cut back left and took off. How in the hell does that equal taking a bad angle on a run? It's like you people make up plays in your head and then get pissed about them.

If I had a vote: 1. Suh 2. Gerhart 3. Ingram 4. McCoy 5. Tebow Ingram had a pretty great season, so it's not like it's a horrible pick, but I definitely don't believe he was the most deserving out of the top 5.

Yep. Probably good for Kansas too. I'm really curious to see what he can do with a bigger program.

I just talked to Brian Kelly, he couldn't stop taking about you. He's devastated he lost your respect.
-
I was just saying that the comments were directed at him leaving, not about him leaving before the bowl game (which was the direction the thread had turned at the point you posted the quotes). Sure, players are going to be upset about the coach leaving, especially after they were recruited by that coach, but that's just the way of things. Coaches get promoted. They take better jobs. They take more money. I don't think anyone (outside of Cinci) could blame Kelly for taking the ND job. The kids can be bitter all they want, but in the end it's just life. I would like to hear what they think specifically about the bowl game though, since that part is at least debatable.
