No thanks. I'm not missing McGee taking the opening kickoff to the house. Try taking out a full page ad in the Buffalo News Sports section. The absence of 200 people on the Internet message board who go to the game will not be noticeable.

To all calling for Mularkeys head...
smokinandjokin replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I appreciate this example, and there is something to be said for continuity. However, the thing that stings with Mularkey is that he says one thing ("We will be a smashmouth running team") and does another (pass from the 3 to Damian Shelton or Josh Reed.) He has continued to irk me with his handling of addressing injuries, and addressing the starting QB when JP got yanked. Marvin Lewis set the course and changed the entire attitude of a pathetic franchise. Even when they took a step back, I don't think the boat rocked internally too much (forget what fans and media say.) The team knew Lewis had them on a path to be successful. The Bills are another story. Mularkey seems to be creating chaos with Sam Adams and Moulds, and there is no clear path to success. One thing that I think is a reflection on the coach is the 0-6 record on the road. They look like a different team, and play with no heart whatsoever. In reality, this team has weak victories over Houston, NYJ, and Miami, and a game vs. KC where their defense decided to show up. It could be a 4-12 season with 3 of those wins against Gus Frerotte, Vinny, and the Texans. Ouch Mike Mularkey. -
OT-Sabres getting some good press

You're right, I forgot about that. However, not to excuse a cheap shot, but that is a function of Peca's style of play. He was a big hitter, so obviously other teams tried to take their shots at him when they could. It was Peca's style of play that made him a fan-favorite, but it also probably diminished his skills/health and took a couple of years off his career. Holding out also took a year off his career. -
OT-Sabres getting some good press

Nothin new there. It's a Bills town man, and it's not gonna change (at least until January) -
Please, no more references to anything pre-1990. The Internet generation does not know what you are referring to. JoePa cannot hold a candle to Pete Carroll and Bob Stoops. Nice season PSU. Obviously, you never want to lose, but that loss to Michigan may alleviate a lot of horrible memories in Happy Valley. Undefeated Penn State would more than likely be #3 and on the outside looking in, with the chance at yet another unbeaten/untied non-national title season. A record of 10-1 (or 11-1/10-2) with a Big 11 championship and a BCS bowl bid will do you just fine. By the way, PSU early 8-point favorites over the 4-loss Noles.

OT-Sabres getting some good press

Did you read the blurbs at the bottom of that article?? AND I thought it would've been wise to keep Zhitnik, but Peca has become a marginal NHL player. I have a feeling Edmonton will not be his last stop. The little man playing big may have caught up to him. His body could be worn out. -
To further illustrate your point: Total TD's: Shaun Alexander- 22 (all rushing) Buffalo Bills- 17 (4 rushing [all McGahee], 13 passing) SA is a maniac down by the goalline. He always gets in. Mularkey either does not trust McGahee or does not trust the O-Line. It seemed that last year, one of McGahee's special gifts was finding the end zone. If he got a sniff, he was in there. This year, it is more a lack of opportunity than a lack of success on his part.

uh guys we have New England this week
smokinandjokin replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While a loss helps our draft pick status, I will never, EVER, complain about a victory over the Patsies, Fins, or Jets. Eff all three of those teams. -
I heard a quick second of it, but I didn't want to listen to that bum. I'm pretty sure it was 97 Rock, but I could be wrong.

"Someday you'll understand"

Is that the comment Mike Vick used on the girl when she asked what those "cold sores" are? Or perhaps Norv was talking about how he had Lamont Jordan RUN THE BALL in for a TD when they were inside the 5, instead of floating up a pass. -
Awww man, I would've loved to have seen the explosion on the Stadium Wall if they ran that play and Roscoe got his pass picked off. That would've been great.
-
I'm pretty sure it's just taped up to prevent his wrist from bending backwards on catches. Roscoe got creamed by the punter on that one return. Good thing it wasn't a LB or safety, he may have been killed.

Quit beating yourselves up over the Bills
smokinandjokin replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I know you didn't mean big time programs. But you did say "major schools wooing him." I was thinking more along the lines of St. John's, Pittsburgh, etc...Up and down programs in a big conference. Do you know any of the schools? BTW, I'm not trying to call you out, or peg you as a liar...I'd just be interested to know what he turned down. I was still living out of the area when UB was REAL bad, but I do recall a piss-poor record from a few years back. I think Reggie proved himself to be an adequate recruiter and coach. I thought he did blow it in the MAC final last year. Ohio was on a terror, erasing UB's huge lead, and Reggie just stood around and watched it happen. Then, after Ohio came all the way back to tie it, UB has the ball, holding for the last shot, and Reggie calls timeout with 6 seconds left. Then, he draws up a play for some big guy to shoot a three, when you have senior Turner Battle on the court who hit every big shot for UB that season. Plus, with so little time, there was no opportunity for a rebound put-back if the shot missed, which obviously it did. That game cast some serious doubts about Reggie from me. But they did go NIT, which is a step in the right direction, and they are off to a good start this year. That's really the reason I questioned you in the first place about RW's offers. UB clearly does not have the facilities that most major programs have. Their arena is nice, but smallish. The actual facilities, such as offices, weightrooms, etc. are pretty dated. The school's administration seems to like being Division I in name only, because they don't back it up with actions, or more importantly, money. The school, in it's current state, is going to be a tough sell for top high school recruits. Think about bringing a big time recruit up here from Atlanta for a game in February. It would be 10 degrees with two feet of snow on the ground. Reggie's got his work cut out for him, that's for sure. If he did get some offers, but chose to remain loyal to his hometown, that is pretty admirable. -
I love the Bills, but I'm hurtin' right now.

whatever. We all know we will be at the game or watching the game Sunday. The most I need is a 6 day breather. Then I'm ready to go again. -

Is that really true? What schools are wooing him/have wooed him? I can't imagine if, for example, a Big East team approached and was interested in him, and he chose to stay at UB. That doesn't make much sense. Building a winner at UB means making the NCAA's one time and playing a top school as a 12 or 13 seed. A winner at a major school means Final Fours. I can't see him not considering offers, so I guess I kinda doubt the validity. But I don't know much! Nonetheless, go Bulls! -
Okay inkman. Willis will listen to whatever Rosenhaus tells him to do, because the guy did T.O. a lot of favors.

If you think 1029 yards in 12 games is not an accomplishment on a team with a 1st-year QB and a garbage O-Line, than you've got some real issues. Stop thinking of McGahee as the guy from Miami who was the fastest player on the field, and regualrly broke 60 yard runs. If you do, you will continue to be disappointed. He is much bigger and stronger now, and is running on a new knee. He will bury his head and get you four yards when most other running backs would get you one. As for him being happy, I'm sure he is. But not about the game. I'm sure there's something financial tied to his 1000 yards. So good for him. But he's not happy. Apparently smiling in an interview is grounds for dismissal now. The guy played at home, racking up 80-some yards and no TDs in front of his friends and family, and watched his team lose on the last play. And he's happy about everything???

They stopped the run.

Hey, You Guys Forgot That Drew Sucked!
smokinandjokin replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There will be plenty of posts in this thread about "Who cares what Drew does" and criticizing the "Drew-bashers." But that game yesterday was typical Bledsoe. He melts on the road against good teams. -
Moulds is a legendary Dolphins killer, so they were doubling him and had a safety over the top on his side whenever he was on the field. I assume he said something unkind to Mularkey about JP not getting him the ball, and Mularkey benched his ass. The QB (again) was not the problem yesterday. If they hand the ball to McGahee three times and then kick a FG from the 2 yd line, they win that game easy. Instead they throw, JP makes a bad decision and forces one. The whole game changed. We were staring at 30-3, with 26-3 as the worst case scenario (we thought.) It was a coincidence that Evans seemed to disappear with Moulds on the sidelines however. Evans has no idea what NFL double coverage looks like. Remember, we had a 90-catch, 1000-yard receiver in 2002 (Peerless something) who is no longer in the NFL.

I don't know. There were guys running wide open underneath once Rosenfels came in. They made it easy for him. He played a quarter and a half and threw 37 passes without being sacked. He was never even pressured. He had thrown 57 career passes in five years before yesterday, and he comes in and tears us up. We stopped the run though!!!

I believe I read that Milloy should have been there deep on Clements side, but he was not. Maybe your right about Vincent; I thought it was Milloy though.
-
Play of the game (besides JP's INT.) I think it was Lawyer Milloy who blew this one. Clements had the underneath in the zone, and Chambers ran by him with Milloy nowhere to be found. Vincent was on the other side of the field. London Fletcher (who played his ass off) ran downfield and ended up making the tackle. What a disaster. I couldn't believe the score when watching the highlights. 23-3 with 11 minutes left before Ricky scored.

Very similar to the last fight. Hopkins didn't do much for the first 6-7 rounds, and Taylor didn't do much more. When they did come together, it was usually Taylor who was moving in. Hopkins started to pick it up in rounds 8-12, but it was too little too late. I think Taylor earned the decision, as Hopkins' inactivity lasted two rounds too long at the beginning. Hopkins could've done more damage if he threw more than one punch at a time, but he was scared of catching a Taylor counterpunch. Overall, not a great fight, neither guy was overly impressive.

Should be a doozy. Each coach has a month to figure out how to stop Vince Young and Reggie Bush. Sounds like a lot of sleepless nights to me....
