Interesting Question On Pgh Sports Talk Show...
smokinandjokin replied to R. Rich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ivan is a moron. That Big Ben pick really burned them... -
Moulds doesn't need to know the gameplan to loaf half-speed through the plays designed for Evans.

We just had a smokin' lunchtime concert here at CC

Would you say it was smokin AND jokin??? -
Rubes, you know this is just an attempt by all parties to save face. Mularkey wanted Moulds gone for the year, Ralph had to come in and form some sort of compromise, and now they come up with this excuse so that Moulds doesn't have to answer questions about his wrong-doing. If it was just a matter of practice time, Moulds would be getting his $93,000 check this week. By the way, since I haven't practiced yet this week, I also will not be suiting up for Sunday's game. I will be drinking in section 117 instead.

The Worst Breakfast You Can Eat

So you're saying two bonghits, a slice of pizza, and a frosty beer is NOT the worst breakfast you can eat??? Sweet!!!! -
Miller will be in Roch this weekend for a tune-up game. I heard Lindy this morning. Miller cleared (scroll to last paragraph)

Yeah, but only 4"? Sounds like Mead went low budget...

That's great. Does this mean Georgetown used to play white guys? Either that, or PT used to be black!

What was the drink of choice? I've had some serious blackouts when I'm hammering back the rum.

I didn't see the show, but it looked like Bush and Young pretty much won all the big awards. -

Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx- Still exist?
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Take a good look at my post VA. They are far from the best team in baseball. I don't think there was a more overrated pitching staff. However, 205 wins over the past two years (105-57, 100-62) would include them in the conversation as "one of the best teams in baseball." Pujols had a lot to do with those wins. I haven't been around here that long, but I have been around long enough to know the history of making outrageous claims about the St. Louis Cardinals! -

Good call. Was trying to think of the "other" sports, got cycling, skiing, and tennis in there...I forgot about that bastard Tiger. He did have a good year. -

Nice! Take two and pass it!!! -
I got the SI today, and much to my dismay, Tom Brady was named Sportsman of the Year. I don't necessarily agree with the pick, but I'm not sure of who else would win. The immediate thought that did come to mind is whether or not the SI cover jinx still has the aura it once did. If so, Brady should crumble in the swirling winds of the Ralph this weekend. So....Two questions: 1. Whaddya think? Will the SI jinx be in effect this weekend? Will Brady complete more passes to Clements and McGee than to his own receivers? Or is he all-powerful and too handsome to succumb to such voodoo? 2. Who should have been Sportsman of the Year (if not Brady)? I was thinking about it; not many great choices. I could see possibly: o Charlie Weis- If Brady, why not Weis? CW also won 3 Super Bowls, he made Brady what he is, and he restored the most storied college football program to the national rankings. He also visited a dying child, and ran a play the boy called. That was a nice story. o Lance Armstrong- Tour de France, blah, blah, blah. Deserves mention, but I think he's had a stranglehold on this award. Time for something new, IMO. o Albert Pujols- The best player in baseball, on one of the best and most popular teams. He also does a lot of work with mentally disabled children. o Bode Miller- Became the first U.S. skiier to win the overall World Cup title last year and won at least one event in each discipline (Downhill, Super G, Slalom, and Giant Slalom, or something like that. ) o Matt Leinart/Reggie Bush- Last year's Heisman winner and this year's Heisman winner are 37-1 in their college careers. They have led their team to two national titles in a row (and have a shot at a third), and will go down as two of the finest college players ever at their respective positions. o Gary Bettmann- Always need to include some controversy. NHL commish took a lot of heat for the year off, but he may have had a vision all along. By all accounts, the league is financially stable and maybe even profitable, and the game is clearly better than it has been for 10 years. o Tedy Bruschi- You had to know that was coming!!! o Forgot one: Roger Federer- Pretty good tennis player Who do you think deserved the SotY?

The guy was on every major publication (SI, ESPN the Mag, Sporting News, Time, Newsweek) touting him as the next great white high motor defensive lineman, hyping Northern Iowa to defeat Southern Cal, and you get his name wrong? For shame...And you call yourself a sportsfan.
-
Yesterday, Bruschi cornered a man on a jetway in Miami after the man threatened an airplane with a bomb. Bruschi, who was unarmed, pulled a bullet out of his chest that had been lodged there since he stormed the beaches of Normandy in WWII. He threw the bullet at the mad bomber with such velocity that it killed the man on contact.

I know you work some serious hours as an NFL coach, but recruiting is a different animal. It is rigorous getting through the coaching and administrative duties all day, and then picking up the phone or hopping on a plane so you can meet some 17 year-old kid and his parents (all who think the kid is God's gift to football), and kiss his ass for a few hours. Now imagine spending all of this time on 100 players, knowing full well that maybe 20 of them will come to your school. It is nice because you can build your own team with (more or less) the players you want. And Carroll has a leg up because 1) Players know they will play in an NFL-style program 2) USC has history, and they have been the best team in the country for the past 3 years 3) It is a beautiful campus in sunny L.A. And with no NFL, USC is the only show in town. All of that makes it easier, but it is still a grueling process that goes on 365 days a year.

That is true. He will be en route directly from a bombing run on Al Qaeda strongholds in the Middle East. I was under the impression he was going to parachute from the plane into the stadium in full Patriots uniform, but THAT part may have been fabricated.

He knows a good mock turtleneck when he sees one.

Since we're playing hypothetical, I'm going to assume that the Bills go 4-0 to end the season, finish 8-8, the Pats have an epic meltdown and lose their last 4, Buffalo wins the division and gets a home playoff game, they beat the Chargers 48-10 in the Wild Card round (revenge) and then (gotta be realistic here ) lose 48-45 in OT to Peyton and the Colts, as JP sets the single game playoff passing record and Moulds breaks his own single game playoff receiving record. The Bills draft 25th overall and select Howie Feltersnatch, a DT out of Northern Iowa. That's what I think.
