Due to the recent use of women as suicide bombers in the Middle East, Bill himself has offered to help tighten security at HSBC Arena by personally patting down all of the female fans. Stars have been winning lots lately, too...Git 'er done Sabres!!!

The next great back in the NFL
smokinandjokin replied to thisiskeith12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've seen that poll. The '05 USC team is not the best ever, and not the best of their recent teams. The defense leaves a lot to be desired. The '03 and '04 defenses were much better, and the offense was comparable. However, Pete Carroll has proven that with a month to prepare, he can come up with some defensive schemes. They had two weeks to gameplan for UCLA's top-10 offense and shut them down. Of course, Vince Young can throw a wrench into anybody's best laid plans. I think their inclusion in the ESPN poll is not necessarily because of the '05 team, and is more a result of their program over the last 3-4 years: 34 wins in a row, 44-1 in last 45, #1 in the last 32 AP polls, 3 of the last 4 Heisman Trophies, yada, yada, yada... -

That's nice for Tucker. He'll make a little over $100,000 for the three games, plus a playoff bonus, and an outside shot at a ring. Not bad for a month of work. -
Oh great - Moulds back but Losman not
smokinandjokin replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, it's injury-related. The offense was going through some passing drills, and the Oline was walking through their blocking schemes against those blue tackling dummies. One of the dummies put a nice spin move to the inside on Gandy, bulled over Bennie Anderson, and then blindsided JP before he could get his pass off. JP is day-to-day. At first, everyone was pissed at the tackling dummy, but they realized he is color blind and he didn't know JP had the red "no contact" jersey on. Jerry Gray said the dummy will start opposite Schoebel at DE on Saturday. He will be #00 in your program. -
Saddam- GM and head coach. He's looking for work, he's a disciplinarian, and no team would ever quit on him, for fear of the mustard gas. There's no way Moulds takes himself out of the game with the Butcher of Bahgdad on the sidelines. Unfortunately, his two hot young coordinator candidates, sons Uday and Qusay, have not been heard from in awhile. There is a rumor that both have been fine-tuning their craft in NFL Europe.

Vick's Injury on Monday Night Football
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But if they're up 14-13 at halftime, with the starters having played the whole 1st half, do they take some or all of them out? -
Vick's Injury on Monday Night Football
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bro, obviously I know their styles are drasticaly different. However, Vick got hurt last night on a roughing the passer call. It was a late hit as he tried to pass. It was late, but it wasn't a hit you've never seen before, and it wasn't because Vick was scrambling for the 1st down marker on 3rd & 13. Manning could easily take the shot that hurt Vick last night. -
Vick's Injury on Monday Night Football
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only takes one hit to crack a rib. I agree, Manning (and Harrison/James) have been, overall, very durable during their careers (minus James' knee injury.) And Manning doesn't put himself in harm's way like Vick does. But it's got to have Dungy thinking how quickly it all can change. -
Lack of roll outs for JP...I don't get it!
smokinandjokin replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. They don't CALL rollouts because he just ends up running for his life on every play anyways. -
Fourth quarter, Falcons in control up by 13, and Vick takes an illegal hit, but not one that is inconceivable for a QB to absorb during any game. Vick's x-rays showed bruised ribs only. But who knows how they will affect him next week in a must-win game, in the cold in Chicago vs. the hardest hitting defense in the league. That being said, and knowing that the entire league was watching MNF, what effect does Vick leaving the game and going to the locker room for X-rays have on Tony Dungy and his decision to play Manning in an attempt to win every game? Seeing as every game until the playoffs is meaningless for the Colts, does this hit on Vick put a pit in Dungy's stomach, knowing the season can crumble on any given play? Will Manning see the 2nd half at all for the rest of the year?

Van Miller Interviewed on Denver Radio
smokinandjokin replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills should draft Leinart if they want to continue chasing their tail and not addressing the real problems with the team. JP can be a very good QB in this league. He throws a good-looking deep ball, and seems to know where to put it for Evans to go get it. I agree, some of his underneath throws were short and disgusting. But take into account that: 1) He was playing his first game ever against the defending champs (disregard last year's Sunday nighter) 2) He's facing master defensive schemer Bill Belichick, who gameplanned specifically for Willis and JP 3) He's playing his first game in the snow ever 4) The best receiver on his team, who kills the Patriots, was not playing 5) He was blitzed constantly, but even four man rushes were getting penetration 6) His running backs piled up about 12 yards for him. All game. To criticize the accuracy of a first-year QB after all of these things were against him seems to be jumping the gun. Matt Leinart would have done better?? Maybe, but I doubt the score would have looked much different. Van suggesting that accuracy is something you're born with is garbage. If you are on the run and getting slammed to the turf after every throw, I don't think you are going to be confident stepping in there and whipping passes on the money everytime. Granted, he had his share of uglies even when he did have time, but he still may have rushed those. Van's a quack. -
Same as you Bart, I'm in an Alumni Lotto for SC. They already held it, and I was not one of the lucky bunch. I got to go to Miami last year for the Orange Bowl, but tix were a little easier to come by. With the game in Pasadena this year, where it's a 45-minute drive instead of a cross-country flight, it is an extremely tough ticket. While L.A. would be nice in early January, my living room will have to do...

Does anyone here actually REMEMBER Marv Levy?
smokinandjokin replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
SDS, you are right. I know what you're saying, you're not trying to dog Marv, but you're wondering what exactly he could bring to our current roster. I wondered the same thing a few days back (post #10). -
While his weight may not be drastically different from his Miami days, his body type definitely is. He is definitely carrying a lot more bulk than he was at the U. His brother owns a gym in Miami, and I heard Willis is a real weight freak. Especially during his injury, he wanted to come back stronger than ever, and really seemed to be pumping the iron. Does it affect him negatively? I wouldn't say it does right now, no. With the line that we have, we need him to put his head down and move the pile. There really isn't much there for him to run at. I also heard this on WGR- so read on skeptically- that Mularkey and the offensive staff have told Willis to stop bouncing runs outside. They told him they need the yards up the middle, and he is missing gains when he's looking to hit the corner. If that is true, all I can say is When he's going good, the bulk helps him. Last year he was stronger as the game went on, and a beast near the goalline. This year, for many reasons (Oline, no passing attack, defenses geared on him) Willis hasn't had the opportunities or the production.

I remember a story about Moulds ordering a pizza to be delivered to the sidelines, but I believe it was a college All Star game, like the Senior Bowl or something.

I love how the analysts say that every white wide receiver in the draft, regardless of his skill set, "reminds me a lot of Bradon Stokley."

and one other PFW whisper tidbit
smokinandjokin replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why don't you try submitting a post that doesn't include a rumor from PFW??? Maybe actually coming up with an original thought, and throwing it out there for everyone to discuss? That would be nice. But if you'd rather hunt down flimsy blurbs written by some clown who needs to fill his Monday word count, be my guest. Also, sweet post where you were critical of McGahee's vocabulary, and Edge's status in your ranking of citizens. You're delighting me with your football knowledge. -
I see, these guys, who have been to Pro Bowls, are supposed to care about you the fan, when you toss them out on the curb, call them dead wood, and say we'd be better without them? Nice. Let's rebuild with some new chumps who's head you'll be calling for in three years. Why should we be mad that this team gives up? The fans and the media gave up on them weeks ago. The best teams don't play for the coaches, or the fans, or their stats, or even the money. They play for their teammates. The 11 players we send out on the field (other than the various special teams units) do not play together, and do not play for each other. A lot of that is coaching. You always hear the media say that "They gave up on their coach" or "They will not quit on coach so-and-so." The coach's job is not to get the players to play for him; it's to get them to play for each other. I think MM has made some decisions with veterans that have divided the team and created a bunch of individuals. London Fletcher is the only guy I see who plays because he's trying to make the other 10 guys with him better. I see the effort in JP, but not the execution yet. I, for the most part, support everyone on the roster in that uniform. I give them the benefit of the doubt. Even in the Flutie-RJ debate, I supported whoever was under center, because that's MY team's quarterback. The only head I ever asked to roll, and who I consistently booed, was Chris Watson.

PFW on locker room dissension
smokinandjokin replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, the veterans are upset when we lose. Too bad nobody does anything about it. London Fletcher plays balls to the wall. The rest of these clowns are all talk. They say the right things all week, and then don't show up on Sunday. What's the point of this blurb anyways??? The whole article talks about how the veterans have turned on Mularkey, and then they throw it in at the end that the vets are upset with losing. Get it straight. -
USA gets very tough draw in Worldcup
smokinandjokin replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say US and Italy go through from that group. Don't assume because the Czech is "ranked" #2 or #3 in the world, they are a dominating team. Those rankings are so skewed, it's rediculous. Nobody even knows how they are tabulated. I believe the U.S. is 7th, which is too high. They are ahead of Spain (8), England (9), Italy (12) and Germany (15). And Mexico is 6th (please). If the Czech was top 3 in the world, they wouldn't have needed a play-in game to qualify for the WC. They couldn't qualify as one of the top teams in their group, so they needed a 1-0 win against Norway in a play-in game to even make the WC. I think the US is definitely in the toughest group. Argentina and the Netherlands is a tough group, but they will both advance. Most of the other groups have two solid teams, while the US group has three, plus an unknown in Ghana.
