Sullivan righto n the money.
smokinandjokin replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I appreciate what you're saying, but don't we all love our defense and special teams when they are #1??? Then the rankings mean something. Well, the rankings above mean the Bills are in the bottom 3 (out of 32) in some very important areas (red zone) which often equate to victories and losses. You are upset because he doesn't give any solutions for the team, he just lists stats. Well, I think that was the point of this article. The team was not a few plays away from being a contender. They were very, very bad in several different aspects, and it would be a mistake to overlook those stats. -
There is no doubt in my mind McCarver is worse. An absolute schmuck is the only way to describe him. If we take this poll again next October, TM will win in a landslide.

You're correct JSP. I read that article this morning and thought the same thing. London saying they could've been 10-6 with a few plays here or there? Please. I like Sullivan's rebuttal: -
Yes she does. A monster set of hoo-hoo's and a slammin ass could tip the scales back in her favor a bit. You couldn't tell because of her baggy jersey. But the helmet is definitely broken.

Boller seemed to make strides this year under Fassell and looked like a capable NFL QB for the first time. Kicking MM to the curb and bringing in JF might be something to think about if JP is in the long-term plans for the new GM... -
What happened??? You and your wife did it in front of several hundred people? You're a real showman.

Weis better recruit some DB's. They can't cover anybody.

Ten understatements for 2005
smokinandjokin replied to realtruelove's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team, and Willis especially, missed Mike Williams when he hurt his vagina. He does make a difference in the run game. Josh Reed quietly had a very solid season. Moorman was overdue and deserved his Hawaii trip. McGee deserved the Pro Bowl also- he is the best in the business at KO returns. Those of us who saw him every week know that London Fletcher deserved the Pro Bowl, but for others around the country, it's tough to vote for the middle linebacker on one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL. There's a decent chance we will see Losman to Everett in the next Bills game. Get them both in there! I hope Rian Lindell retains the same offseason workout regiment he used last spring/summer. He made himself 10x better. The new pat downs at the gate did not restrict me from sneaking in 2-4 beers each week (but only after the weather cooled down and I had some layers on; the shorts and t-shirt make it tough to hide 'em!) -
Vince Young, Brad Smith, or Daunte???

One big positive from today....

Holes need to be created before they can be hit. The holes you are talking about are filled with a waiting DT or LB, or the ass of one of his linemen. I think Mike Williams is a lot better than everyone gives him credit for. Granted, he is expensive and injury prone, but it's no coincidence that Willis was near the top of the NFL in rushing yards halfway through the season, and then failed to break 100 for the next 7-8 games with Big Mike out of the lineup. Willis' best games of his career have come against the Jets last year and earlier this year, so it's not a surprise that he put up a good number today. -
Sometimes teams just have another team's number. For one reason or another, Florida seems to match up real well with the system Buffalo plays. Even when the Sabres have been bad over the past 4 years, it seemed like they always had the Leafs and the Flyers number, even when they were near the top of the standings and the Sabres were near the bottom. Perhaps Florida is our nemesis. The 0-7 on the PP was surprising. The M.O. of this Sabre team has been pumping in a PP goal to tie it up in the third. It was shocking to see them not score on four straight when down 2-1. You have come to expect it with this team.

Pats didn't need homefield last year. You are right though, the higher seed the better. No matter what, you are going to have to beat 3 good teams to get to the Bowl. I think the drop kick is hilarious and I can't believe people are mad about it. If it was JP we would be loving it. It's just because it's 1) the Patriots, and 2) Flutie, that people are getting worked up.

Taking the fastest, most exciting impact player first overall automatically means they are going to neglect their offensive line? What the heck does that mean? They could use their next six picks on linemen. Are you saying that you think they should pass on Bush to take Fat Billy Bob Pullman from Iowa State? And I don't think David Carr will want to leave when you have a player coming who can turn a swing pass into a 70-yard touchdown.

Whatever their record would be, it doesn't matter, because their salary cap situation would be a mess. It's great to say we should have kept them, but you do have to pay the players on your roster. -
Texas is 12-0 and has been chomping at USC's heels all season. It's for a national championship. I don't think anyone takes anyone lightly at this point. I'm pretty sure they know that Vince Young can run and pass also. But if they didn't, your scouting report just broke the news!

LAMP: What do you think of this pick?

Was it the 10-3 game that the Bucs-Saints played a few weeks ago that is scaring you away? -
Just looking for some opinions here-- I am in a money pool ($300 to join) and we have been picking games all season. You start with $3000 of play money. You have to bet four games per weekend, at a minimum of $50 per game. You can bet everything you have at any time. You can bet the games or the over/unders, and the point spreads are taken from every Friday's Buffalo News. Therefore, if you have less than $200, you are out. There were 40 people to start, and there are now about 14 left. I am in 3rd place with $9400. The first and second place have around $14000 and $11000 respectively. The payouts are (in real $$) $7000 for 1st place, $3000 for 2nd place, $1000 for 3rd place, $700 for 4th place, and $300 for 5th place. I am going for the gold and I will try to double my money by taking one game for $9250 (and 3 others for $50 each per the rules.) I have to hope the two in front of me stay even or even lose money. I was liking New Orleans @ Tampa Bay UNDER 37 for my big one. What do y'all think? Any others you guys like?

You're right, and they do take that into account. They were worried a few years ago when they went to the 4 vs 4 OT that the extra column for OT losses would throw people off. I do like the current system; I was only saying that I think people have a legitimate argument in saying that a game won by a shootout earns you the same points as a game won in regulation. Maybe something is not right about that, but for me personally, I like the shootout. My three best and your three best against each other's goalie for a bonus point in the standings...What's not to like? BTW, Marty is not even close to Miller in shootouts. He tries that lame-ass poke check everytime, and the players aren't even phased by it. Miller does have the advantage of playing under the shootout rules in Rochester last year, so it's not surprising he's more successful in that area.

The hockey purists need to cool out and let the game evolve. I think, across the board, you will find that most hockey fans are appreciative of the post-lockout style. The strange thing is, while there are a few new rules, the majority of the changes have come as a result of actually enforcing the rules that were already in place. What a novel concept! It used to be disgusting to watch the any NHL team play in the 3rd period with a 3-1 lead. Dump the puck, play the trap, and manhandle any forward who looks at the net. The clock would tick away, and an empty-netter would make it a 4-1 final. It was clockwork. Predictable. It is true now that no lead is safe. Playing a defensive style ultimately leads to penalties and goals. The OT is great, 4-on-4, wide open, end-to-end action. Both teams have already secured a point and are going for two. The shootout is fun for everyone. In an 82-game schedule, where teams sometimes play 3 games in 4 nights, an extra 20 minutes of OT is not realistic (don't feed me the line that baseball plays everyday and they go until there's a winner. The games aren't even comparable.) For the purists, don't consider the shootout a loss. Consider it a tie with a chance to earn a free point. I do appreciate the argument that a team gets the same amount of points for a hard-fought, 4-3 victory in regulation as a team who wins in a shootout. Maybe the league will address the points in the offseason, a la 3 for regulation win, 2 shootout win, 1 for OT or shootout loss.
