I heard the Texas CB who was going to cover Ginn is suspended. He was in a car with a little grass and a handgun. Sweet move. I believe Larry Coker called him today and asked if he was interested in transferring to Miami. He also jumped way up on the draft boards of the Cowboys and the Raiders. I don't think it will be a make-or-break in the game...Like I said, I think this one comes down to the QB's. But I'm sure Texas would love to put their best 11 on the field. Another interesting fact: It's the first time in 10 years that the AP #1 plays AP #2 in a regular season game. Outstanding job by the AD's at both schools to have the stones to schedule this matchup.

[Sabres] Oh my goodness
smokinandjokin replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
Sabres replay tonight on MSG- Game 1 vs. Philly. I would have actually preferred if they showed game 2 or game 6, where we absolutely destroyed the Flyers. Game 1 was exciting because it was OT, but I'd rather watch a thrashing. Next Tuesday, 9/12, they're showing game 1 vs. Ottawa. That's a must-see. The next Tuesday after that is the game 5 clincher vs. Ottawa. "Now do you believe? Now do you believe? These guys are good! Scary good!!!" -
The kid that got decked by the adult actually laid a pretty good cheap shot out first. With about 40 seconds left in the game, he drilled the son of the adult with a late hit, causing the adult to run on the field and hammer the kid. These players are old enough to know what's going on. They were in a 12-13 year old league. Why did the son's father have to run on the field to deck the cheap shot artist? What were the son's teammates doing? Man, especially with 40 seconds left, I would've hammered that bastard for taking a cheapie on my teammate. Who cares if you get tossed. I think the charges against the adult are quite serious. Something in the 'felony assault of a minor' category. He deserves it. Sounds like a clown.

Yeah, I actually had that in my post originally, I must've erased it...I know there's only one week of action to base opinions on. You can't blame them for shutting down UNT, the players don't control who lines up across from them. I think we do that too much where we 'qualify' victories, saying things like, "But they only beat so-and-so, and so-and-so lost to team x, so they suck..." I'm not taking anything away from their victory or the dominating fashion in which they achieved it. I'm just saying we can't declare Texas' defense better than the one that won them a trophy last year after shutting down North Texas. If they shut down Heismann candidates Troy Smith and Ted Ginn, then the SICK!!! posts can (and should) come flying.

BlueFire, I admire the optimism, but don't call the Texas defense sick (SICK!!!) after they dominated North Texas. North Texas was 2-9 overall last year while finishing last in the vaunted Sun Belt conference. Even Colorado would've rolled them up. In the meantime, OSU pounded the favorite to win the MAC this year. I think they showed a little more than Texas did. Much like last year, I think this game will come down to QB play, and I have to give it to Ohio St. Troy Smith will shine, while McCoy will struggle against his first college defense, not the high school squad that UNT sends out there. Ohio St 27 Texas 13

Gotta a strange car repair question for y'all
smokinandjokin replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It's a little known fact that driving fast and taking chances are the #1 deterrents of chassis failure and wheel separation. Hammer down Pooj! That thing's got another 100k in her! -
I've probably read about eight total posts in the thread, but here's my recap: Andre was a hairbag pretty boy who used to bang Brooke Shields...He had game but also wasted a lot of talent....Now he's a bald old man with a bad back who bangs a chick with a huge beak who is a better tennis player than he is. He retired, he cried, end of an era, blah blah blah. Oh yes, as a footnote, in my own personal opinion, men's tennis is the most retarded sport. The points are three seconds long due to 150mph serves. It has become two guys grunting, which is not cool on any level. Federer is great but he's not persuading anybody to pick up a racket.

I love the part where you quoted his post, which said "I have discovered that Rain-ex is a brilliant product so to date it has not been too bad a problem," and then you told him to go buy some Rain X. Poojer thanks you. -
I think we all know that. At some point, they are going to have to be proficient in every item on the list if they are going to win a Super Bowl. That's why those items are included on the list. However, they are also areas where the Bills have question marks, or where they were weak last year. The question asks which area you view as the most critical first step in their improvement? i.e. If they only establish proficiency at one of those areas this year, which do you see as the most important?

Last night's game could challenge the '05 game for "Ugliest of the Decade." Honestly, these two teams shouldn't play in Week 1. Their offenses aren't quite clicking yet, and their defenses are WAY too fast for an offense that's trying to find the groove. It was true after last year's game, and I think the same can be said this year: Neither FSU nor Miami are national championship caliber teams.

I'm not sure what is the most important. Probably stopping the run, just because you're not going to win anything if you can't. After years of Jerry Gray throwing caution to the wind and blitzing at all costs, I would LOVE to see a Bills team that can consistently pressure a QB without having to blitz. Red zone offense has been a major headache for the Bills. I would love to be near the top of the league in red zone TD percentage.

Tell the wife that the mechanic said the only fix is more road head for the driver. I've found that being on the receiving end of a road hoagie really seems to keep my mind off of the daily trials and tribulations. You'll forget all about those broken wipers! -
Regardless of what you do- police officer, construction worker, warehouse man, cubicle slave, etc.- nobody deserves to wake up, go to work, and not come home because you were killed. Accidentally, intentionally, whatever...NOBODY deserves to die at work.

I have faith that the Bills will be an average team this year, which is a step in the right direction from last year. That said, average teams don't go into Foxboro and win. With the Bills, I'm optimistic to a fault, but I am also able to take a step back and view their situation realistically. When I do that, I see that the Bills are 1-10 against the Pats since 2000. Until this Bills team gives me a reason to pick them, I picked New England. I'd LOVE to be wrong. 31-23 Pats.

The conference, top to bottom, is pretty weak. There's no disputing that. I think Cal is better than they showed. Everyone is thinking of Tennessee as the 5-6 team from last year, but they are a lot better than that. Oregon will play everyone tough like usual. USC still has the most talent and raw athleticism in the league. UCLA lost too much offense, Arizona State won't beat any big-time teams. The rest- Arizona, Stanford, Washington, Washington St, and Oregon St are also-rans. Those five will beat up on each other at the bottom of the conference. It seems strange but realistic, that even with an offense that returns their starting WR's and not much else, USC could run the table and find themselves in the national title picture. If Cal is overhyped, USC has to get by Notre Dame in L.A. to go undefeated. Not easy, but not out of the question.

I was on that too. Teased ND down to -1 and teased over down to 44. I didn't catch most of the game, but I was shocked when I saw the score. I thought it would be closer than the spread (ND by 7 or 8) but I thought for sure some points would get thrown up. Oh well, I guess that's why 70% of teasers lose...

Saddest News Of The Day
smokinandjokin replied to true_blue_bill's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The KIA number could actually be much higher, but major advancements in battlefield medical technology has saved 'hundreds, maybe thousands of lives,' as the article points out. However, that also means there are many, many soldiers leaving the Mid-East with terrible injuries that in the past would've killed them. No American soldier deserves to die on a dusty street in Baghdad, but it's a shame that so many are now living the life of cripple and battling bureaucracy of the Dept of Defense for medical coverage. We remember the dead, but sometimes forget that there are 7x that many soldiers who's lives have been physically (not to mention mentally) devastated by the fighting in the Mid-East. I'm sure most, if not all of them, are grateful for the technology and the second chance at life. I'm not really sure what my point is here; it's a sensitive topic and I'm just kind of rambling. I'm just saying, the KIA number is just that: a number. The fact that it recently exceeded the number killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks is coincidental. I think sometimes we get too wrapped up in the number of dead soldiers, and we forget about the thousands upon thousands of others, who are physically or mentally wounded, and the toll it takes on the thousands upon thousands of family members on top of that. What does the number of dead mean? I'd like to think it means that we consider this cause SO important, it is worth the ultimate price paid by 3000 of our best and brightest. -
I am thrilled to hear Maroney won't be playing Sunday. He is going to be a good player for a long time.

The "This is Sportscenter" commercials are all pretty hilarious, but one of the best ones I've ever seen was with Steve Irwin. He and John Anderson are standing waiting for the elevator, just making small talk. Then the elevator dings, and the door opens, and the Florida Gators mascot comes strolling out. Irwin says something like, "Stand back John, this one's a biggie!" and then jumps on the gator and wrestles him down. It was pretty freaking hilarious, and proof that he didn't take his TV persona too seriously. I can't access YouTube at the moment, but if anyone could post that commerical, I would love to watch it. I may have to grab a few oil cans of Foster's tonight for the FSU-Miami game. Cheers mate, RIP.

You're right. ESPN must've edited the article, because the first time I read it, it said his college career is over. But he can redshirt: Bush, who was touted during the preseason along with teammate quarterback Brian Brohm as the "Derby City Duo", is eligible for a medical redshirt, but it is too early to tell whether he'd take that option. Where was the TSW consensus most wrong on cuts
smokinandjokin replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously Coy Wire...But for the purposes of the poll, I voted for Shelton. Everyone seemed ready to cast this guy aside as a chump, and yet nobody seriously challenged for his starting spot in camp. I think that's pretty telling. He was never in jeopardy of losing his job. People were pumped up about the Ricard signing because he blocked for a 2000-yard back in Baltimore. Well, Bennie Anderson blocked for that back also. That doesn't make him the answer. Shelton has always played balls-to-the-wall for the Bills. I think we were all frustrated when our OLine would get blown up, Shelton would get blasted, and Willis would run right into Shelton's back and fall down. Nobody likes to see that. However, I think Willis will have a little more leeway this year to read blocks and utilize his talents by bouncing runs outside. If he sees Shelton get crushed at the line, he doesn't have Mularkey ordering him to 'run it up inside for the tough two yards.' He can make a decision on where he sees an opening. Willis has said in interviews that he loves running behind Shelton. (Of course, when you're speaking of a teammate, you're not going to say the guy is a bum.) But if Willis has confidence in him, I have confidence in him. It's Willis who's reaping the benefits of Shelton's pain. My only hope is that Fairchild's offense takes some of the passes away from Shelton and sends them McGahee's way. -
Jonathan Smith = Lawyer Milloy?

That's it. Thread over. -
I'm under the impression he can't...Maybe he already used it, I'm not sure...But the article says his college career is over.
