Buffalo No. 6 in Fan Loyalty, Cleveland No. 1
smokinandjokin replied to millbank's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I plan on booing the Bills loudly this Sunday and leaving after the 3rd quarter if they play like they have the last two weeks. GO BILLS!!! -
My favorite albums from the last 10 years
smokinandjokin replied to Cugalabanza's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Just made the 10-year cut (released in '97) but you've probably heard of it: Jane's Addiction- Kettle Whistle I have a six-CD changer in my car and I can never bring myself to take this one out. -
They're changing the third jersey also. It will still be the old school Sabres design, but for next season, they are changing the color to match the midnight blue of the new slug jersey. I don't believe they will be available for sale until next season when that color change is made.

The only problem is, they can't implement their plan until the US military is greeted as liberators. That seems to be the minor hold up at the moment. -
You would know better than I would, certainly. Since OSU I've really only watched Texas in the OU game. I hear what you're saying about decision making. You almost wish in a game like Baylor, they would pick that off and return it for 6. Better to learn from mistakes in a game like that rather than figuring it out when you are holding a 3-point lead at Nebraska. Booty for USC looked solid to start the year, but he has been fair-to-bad the last three weeks. Of course, he didn't have Jarrett for two of those weeks, and then got Jarrett back but didn't have Steve Smith last week. Still, they are not really taking advantage of scoring opportunities, and are letting some weak teams hang around. Booty threw a HORRIBLE pick late in the 3rd quarter which ASU returned for a TD to complete their 21-point comeback. If it was Oregon, Cal, or ND instead of WSU, UW, or ASU the last three weeks, there's no doubt in my mind the Trojans would've lost.

No doubt about it. But that doesn't really matter. All that matters is that they can cite statistics showing that they have the #1 selling jersey in the NHL, so of course they are going to assume everyone loves it. It has more to do with the reasons you laid out in your post (nobody's bought uni's in a few years, great team, etc.) than the fact that people love them and want to wear them. It would be interesting to see where the Sabres landed in merchandise sales the year they switched to the goat head in the 90's. Clearly that jersey was a mistake, and the team essentially admitted so by changing them yet again. So, if that jersey was a #1 seller also, that evidence could be used to refute Larry Quinn's eventual argument of, "See, I told you people would love the jersey, we're the #1 seller." No, actually, people will buy anything that's new if they support the product on the ice. I agree, the jersey design is great. The logo is appalling. Isn't it only fitting that this is the year the Sabres switch to that garbage, when they will probably be getting the most national attention in their history??? What a shame. Something just didn't look right in Detroit when the Red Wings came out in their timeless reds, and Buffalo came out in white w/ blue sleeves with the yellow slug. We might as well have been Nashville.

Bomb threats on 7 NFL stadiums?

Thought about posting the exact same thing. That was a slam dunk. -
VERY, VERY fortunate that the wedding was not planned for Buffalo, NY. Those autumn colors in the background would have been dirty snowpiles and snapped tree limbs. I'm sure quite a few weddings got cancelled this past Saturday, because people just couldn't get around the streets. There were driving bans everywhere. The airport was closed from Thurs evening until late Friday night. But, it looks like where you were was pretty nice! Congrats!

Mass elementary school bans.......
smokinandjokin replied to KD in CA's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I fondly remember in 5th grade at a Catholic elementary school, we would go outside for recess in the winter and play King of the Mountain on the snow piles in the plowed parking lot. It would get extremely violent and there would be kids literally falling four or five feet onto frozen pavement. The nuns would stand around watching and laughing. Good times. I also remember a good friend of mine running right into a dumpster because he was being chased from behind and he was looking back over his shoulder. He gashed his head open pretty good, and the nun was smacking him around while he was standing there bleeding because he wasn't watching where he was going! Oh man that schit was great... -

I stopped reading right there. Of course the liberal media outlets lie directly to us, but the Vice President would never, EVER, even think of telling the American people an untruth. By the way, how is Cheney presenting his message to the American people? Is it via one of these lying, liberal news stations, by any chance? -
How about the "U"?
smokinandjokin replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My God who cares? A bunch of players, many of whom come from violent backgrounds at home, play the most violent game we can think of, and we get into an uproar when a fight breaks out? I don't know why anybody is getting angry over this. That whole scene was great! Don't worry, soon enough you can all forget about this 'horrific' incident, until you get your panties in a wad for two days the next time a brawl breaks out. The guy swinging his helmet was the ballziest guy out there and should receive no suspension. My helmet would have been triple-strapped to my head. The guy stomping people was the only one with any brains. What are you going to do- punch a guy in the helmet or in his body armour with your bare hand? I hope there weren't kids watching, that was easily the most violent thing on TV Saturday night... -
Thank God for the Sabres...
smokinandjokin replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That should be a good one. That will be on nationally on VS as well. Montreal will be jacked up to play at their place, especially if the Sabres win two more this weekend and walk in there undefeated. Montreal was one of the few teams who could skate with Buffalo last season, and they outskated the Sabres for stretches when they met earlier this year. Buffalo needed two goals in the last four minutes just to force a shootout. They are one of the few teams the Sabres do not dictate tempo against. -
I actually heard it from Ed Kilgore on Channel 2 Sports here in Buffalo. Here's what's posted on the Sabres website: The National Hockey League announced on Tuesday the Buffalo Sabres jersey is currently the number one selling jersey on NHL.com. Since the team unveiled its new logo and team colors on September 16, Sabres merchandise has accounted for nearly 10 per cent of all products sold on the web site. During the period of September 23 to October 16, sales of Sabres merchandise is up nearly 900 per cent from the same period in 2005. Overall sales of league merchandise on NHL.com are up 85 per cent compared to the same period last year.

No problem there...(see my top 10 in the other thread.) I agree with that. LSU (with two losses) is probably still the best team in the conference, IMO. I rank Florida the highest, however- just because I don't see any shame in losing on the road in the SEC, while Auburn failed to protect the home field and was dominated by Arkansas. Fulmer's crew is the biggest enigma in the bunch. Beating a ranked team on the road in the SEC is always impressive, but is anybody scared of Georgia??? I have a feeling Tennessee will lose again- it's getting to be that time of year. It will be those two for the Big East spot, no doubt. The winner probably goes undefeated. There's no bashing WVU's rushing offense- probably the best in the nation. But the defense will always be suspect. Shutting down Louisville would go a long way in silencing their critics. You're probably right. Two one-loss teams who will certainly figure into the BCS bowls. Texas could hiccup this week at Nebraska. Notre Dame has a few scrimmages until USC in November. Keep an eye on them. They were VERY highly rated before the season, and looked to be a team on paper that could win a national title. They laid an egg in the first half against Tennessee, played well in the 2nd half, and have absolutely crushed everything in their path since then. That loss to Tenn had pretty much everyone casting them aside, but they have a real shot at winning the PAC-10. They are playing MUCH better than USC at the moment. My only real problem with the BCS ranks? Ohio State at #3 (and USC #1) in the computer rankings. WTF is that?

Ohio St.- No brainer Michigan- Can survive w/o Manningham, but need him for OSU USC- Living off their rep right now. Oregon Cal ND in consecutive games in Nov, luckily all in LA. They will lose one of those if they play the way they're playing now. Doubts creeping in about Booty. Blowout win at Arkansas looks much bigger now. WVU- Run run run. D still a liability. Take the over vs. Louisville. Florida- The brutal schedule continues. Leak plays like an 18-year old senior sometimes. But, they lost at Auburn- not at home vs. Arkansas ND- Lost once to the #2 team. They are dangerous lying in the weeds until the USC game. Untested till then. Texas- Didn't really know where to put them. I said McCoy would get better, he's coming around. If they played Louisville tomorrow I'd say Texas by 10. Louisville- Remember when the Big East 'powers' went to the ACC? I see two Big East teams and ZERO ACC teams in the championship picture. Tennessee- Not sold on these guys, but for an SEC team, their remaining schedule is not all that bad. Cal- Played one horrible half in the first game at Tennessee, and have been dominant since.

I met one of tater's buddies at a Sabres game last year who said he dunked on me in high school. I didn't remember that specific incident, but I've played in thousands of basketball games, organized and pickup, and I top out at 5'11". I'm not sure the "I've Dunked on S'n'J" club is too exclusive! (BTW tater, it must've been a close game or else I would've fouled that bastard hard!)
-
They should never take those things off. 7 goals and 9 goals in the two games they've worn them. I did hear the announcers talking about the merchandise sales. I heard that Sabres gear has accounted for a huge percentage of all NHL merchandise sales so far this year. For as much flak as the new uni's got, the fans' disappointment is not being shown with their wallets. Signing your name to an Internet petition is one thing, but the only thing concerning Sabres' brass is merchandise revenue. Looks like the sluggo is here to stay.

Who could've possibly imagined where a 9-1 blowout involving the Flyers had zero fights. They were completely defeated tonight. Esche did his part by keeping them in it after one period. I can't understand why Hitchcock didn't give him the courtesy yank after the brutal 2nd period. I said it in a thread earlier today- Flyers are the same slow, lumbering, one-line team that the Sabres exposed in the playoffs. Hatcher was in cement when Max coasted by him!

I played hoops in a summer league on a team with Damone Brown. He's from Buffalo and played at Cuse, and had a cup of coffee in the NBA with the Sixers. He was easily the best basketball player I played with or against.

2007-2008 Buffalo Bills Running Back

Doesn't Jason Peters have to at least be considered for any potential positional changes on this team? -
Telling fact about Gandy: There is only one (1) team in the entire NFL who does not have their left tackle extended beyond the end of the season with a contract. That team is the Buffalo Bills with Mike Gandy. Feel free to correct me if that info is wrong, but that is what I heard. Does that put him in position to make some coin, a la Jonas Jennings a few years back when he happened to be the only LT free agent available? And does it mean that the Bills really think he sucks?
-
Definitely 1 or 3. I think it's win-win between those two. I'd probably go with the blue one because you know you're going to get some mustard on yourself at some point. It would really stand out on the white sweater.

Sabres Vs. Flyers Tonight
smokinandjokin replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
It's the same slow, lumbering, one-line Flyers team that the Sabres exposed in the playoffs last year. I'm sure they will come in a little chippy, but I fully expect them to be in the rearview mirror for most of the night. 6-2 Buffalo. Piss on Bobby Clarke. In the Sabres Notebook in today's Buffalo News: The guys on WGR told Lindy about the quote this morning and Lindy got a good chuckle out of that one.
