Alcohol at sporting events gets a bad rap
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent! The kids will have a blast! I spent many a Sunday afternoon in the upper atmosphere of Rich Stadium as a young lad. It was great! When I was 8 and I saw four guys who had to be 20-something, it looked like they were having the greatest time ever. Now that I'm that age, I know I was right- they were having the greatest time ever!!! I went to college at Southern Cal, and the LA Coliseum used to be the only NCAA facility to sell beer. That all changed this year. No more. You're right; when I went to the NCAA tourney at HSBC a few years ago, it was hilarious to see all the empty bottles of liquor under seats when the place cleared out. They might as well sell it there and collect the revenue.... -
We (28-42) are now behind Cincy (30-40). F@#% you Cleveland, Arizona, and Detroit!!! You suck!!!

Alcohol at sporting events gets a bad rap
smokinandjokin posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of the posts criticizing the behavior in the Ron Mexico thread cited alcohol as the reason the place was out of control. I am here to lend my support for alcohol, and especially for cold beer. Football and frosties go hand in hand. I strongly disagree with the bad rap alcohol gets in the Ron Mexico thread and in every other situation where fans are unruly. After the Pacers-Pistons brawl, the media/sportscasters immediately got on their high horse and blamed alcohol sales for the escalation of that scenario. Everytime someone mentioned the chants or yelling, it was preceded by "these drunk morons behind us were..." We seem to discount the fact that there's a lot of people who are morons when they are sober. Trust me, I'm not saying alcohol does not contribute to fans fighting, cursing, and being generally disrespectful. Of course it does. But it really bothers me when it is blamed for every single incident that ever occurs. I, like 95% of the rest of the crowd, like to have a few beers with my buddies in the parking lot, and a few while I watch the game. Often times I drink to the point of being drunk ( gasp!) I am mindful to be respectful of those around me. If you are shocked and appalled by seeing drunks at an NFL game, you are not living in the real world. If you are worried about your kid seeing it, don't bring him to the game...OR...bring him and point out how irresponsible and disgusting that behavior is. If some individuals can't handle their drinking, that's their fault, not the alcohol's. Who's with me?!? -
I'm sure their gameplan calls for JP to throw for 220 and Willis to run for 120, along with a McGee return for a TD and a Clements pick for a TD. Do you think Losman throwing 10-23 for 75 yds. was the gameplan's fault? Don't stamp idiot on yourself Midol. The Bills beat the worst team in the league and lost to two quality playoff teams. Relax.....

Saints Game not Sold Out Yet

Exactly. Both teams suck. If you don't care who wins, would you pay $50 or more to see this? Not me. -

I guess that's what happens when you leave L.A. and start hanging out in England full-time. She's all depressed and strung out from living with the pasty Coldplay singer and listening to his melancholy tunes. -
No height requirement on the retard roller coaster. Anyone can hop on. Let's put Holcomb in this year and watch this season waste away, and then be right back in the same spot next year- starting an inexperienced QB- Outstanding idea! Maybe it just stings a bit that the Bills aren't as good as we all thought. Last year's opponents made the Bills look pretty darn good. I know we Bills fans don't need another "next year" scenario, but to think Holcomb is the missing piece for this year is

Bills strength of schedule so far
smokinandjokin replied to Bob Lablaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. I don't understand how the spread is a Pick 'Em, or some even have the Bills favored by 1. They will not win if they play like the last two weeks. -
An hour? Seems long. Here's how it went down- Vinny and Jets brass sit in the best booth at Vinny T's Deli, "Sure to sack your hunger." Jets brass: "Vinny, you know we need you, we're in a spot here. We're willing to give you $1000 per game to be a New York Jet again." Vinny: "$2000." Jets: "1500." Vinny: "$1500, and you pay my Lincoln Tunnel tolls when I drive to the stadium in Jersey." Jets: "Done." Handshakes ensue. Vinny (to former UMiami QB and current short-order cook Gino Torretta)- "Hey Gino, you're in charge for a few months. I'm back in the NFL baby!!!" Gino (sharpening knives): "Oh hey, that's great, I'm...really....happy....for....you"

A guy at work told me he saw a melee over there so he watched through the binoculars...Didn't mention any stabbing but did say he saw somebody bleeding pretty good. Shocking to think someone could sneak a blade in past the pat-down crew -
He'll be hangin with Pennington A banged up secondary? Where have I heard this song before?

Let's just hope the Jets win enough games to stay out of Matt Leinart/Reggie Bush territory in the draft.

This Spikes injury is just killing me
smokinandjokin replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even some of my buddies who are raging Jets fans and hate the Bills with a passion LOVE Spikes. It's hard not to like him. He is a warrior, and single-handedly worth the $45 ticket. Any truth to the rumors that Spikes had an injury to his right lower calf (which extends down to the achilles?) I know he sat out practice Friday with what MM called "a day off." Now I'm hearing he's been having issues in that area. Anyways, I'm not blaming anybody...I don't think there's any way you could've kept Spikes off the field, since he's never been injured for a game before. In hindsight, I'd love to see him out for 2-3 weeks to heal (if he was injured) instead of a torn achilles, but you can't think like that. Bottom line- hope he heals well and returns 100%. Many don't fully bounce back from that injury. -
Want to see how to Coach...

Not being a wiseass here: Name a team who has had winning reg season and then won something (playoff game in NFL, bowl game in NCAA) while platooning QB's. It seems like when teams do that, both QB's usually suck. (I was not alive but I do remember hearing of a Bills backup, Lamonica, who used to sub for Kemp every game.) Any recent examples? (Again, not being a wiseass, I really don't recall any.) Nice move by Fulmer though. Changed the game, as well as my financial situation. Was counting my money at 21-0 (had LSU -6.5). -
TD DOES deserve credit for this...

But who had the balls to draft McGahee? The NFL does not make this public until you fail several tests (3 or 4 I think.) I'm guessing it was weed. -
Losman and Interceptions
smokinandjokin replied to Buffal0 Bill5's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It amazes me how many INT's are dropped by defensive players across the league each week. Some of these seem so easy to catch, especially for professional athletes. LB's and linemen get a cushion here, but there are plenty of DB's who drop picks right in their hands. I guess that's why there's the old saying.... JP has been pretty lucky that most of his near-INT's have been lineman and especially LB's. I guess it just shows that he is not accounting for them dropping into pass coverage. I really only remember Ronde Barber as the one CB who dropped a potential INT. The others have been LB's. And of course, Deangelo Hall decided to hold on to his, that bastard. Kelsey actually showed pretty nice hands on his pick. I've seen linemen drop that one hundreds of times. -

He's gotta lead the league in dropped INT's. I don't think anyone ever sugar-coated that. -

But this one might be worse: A bear walks into a bar, and he says to the bartender, "Give me a beer, and............................................................uh...................a bag of pretzels." The bartender says, "Why the big pause?" C'mon, you get it...Why the big paws? Yeah, I know- sorry about that... -
Willis "catching his breath" on 3rd down

Willis needs a breather? This article is from the Bills website on July 21. Willis must have really fallen out of shape in the past two months.... Willis is ready And from Mr. Mularkey himself: I think he can survive three straight plays!!! -
Willis "catching his breath" on 3rd down
smokinandjokin replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very funny: I heard this on 55 yesterday driving home...(I don't know their voices matched with the names, but I think it may have been Jerry Sullivan who said this on Schop and the Bulldog-) He said Willis coming out on 3rd down is enough to make you believe that the Bills may be trying to keep his numbers down ( ), in anticipation of a Rosenhaus-led contract renegotiation after the season...Now that's a conspiracy theory if I've ever heard one. The Bills (w/ a rookie QB) are devilishly removing Willis to hold back his stats. I just can't get on board with that idea. Willis needs to raise his voice on this issue, which I'm sure he eventually will. Has anyone ever known of an NFL running back who liked being on the sidelines, even for one play or series? I'm sure Willis wants to be in there. He just needs to figure out from MM why he isn't. If it's a perceived weakness in blocking, pass catching, etc. then he needs to improve in those areas. But if he continues to pump out 140-yard games, MM should be shot for taking him out on 3rd and 5. -
You are most certainly correct. I have the utmost respect for JSP and his Babe of the Day feature. I should not have posted without the approval of the main man. Out of respect for his stature, I should not have used the Babe of the Day trademark. Perhaps "Pictures of a Pretty Girl" would have been better. Of course, I should have sent the girl in question to JSP for review. Please forgive these transgressions. I was horrified by another poor performance by our local squad and felt a "T and A" post was necessary to lift the spirits. All future girlies that I feel are worthy of BotD status will be forwarded to JSP for nomination. I hope this in no way compromises my ability to view the BotD thread in the future. Signed, snj

I don't think anyone would make light of the fact that he has an STD. Obviously, he got it from some chick and that sucks. But the whole story of him hiding behind a name to visit the doctor and pick up his prescriptions makes it funny, because the name he chose is Ron Mexico. I understand he wants to protect his privacy and was probably emabarrassed about it, but he could've just picked a name like Darrell Smith and it wouldn't even be a story. If I'm juvenile because I think the name is great/hilarious, then so be it. I'm not laughing at the guy's misfortune, I'm laughing at the way he handled it. -
PSU squeaks one out against powerhouse Northwestern. Nice conversion on 4th & 13 from deep in their own end to set up the winning TD. I love the 1st down/clock stops rule in college. End of close games are intense! Has PSU covered yet? I know they did not against USF and NW, but I don't know what the line was against Cinn and Cent Mich. I assume they covered against CMU. Nonetheless, 4-0 is an excellent start. The USF win looks great now too after the trouncing they gave Lousiville...

Heard this one this weekend at the game. I laughed, although I'm sure about 50% of a typical audience would not find this funny: What's the smartest thing that ever came out of a woman's mouth? Albert Einstein's rooster.
