Hold on a second here- Norwood missed? That's right, it's coming back now. Oh well. If only that team had gotten back for another shot at the big one, I'm sure they would have pulled it out. -
Willis is going to have a field day running over Zach Thomas and Junior Seau. Thomas loves making tackles after 7 yard gains. And my grandfather speaks glowingly of Seau's rookie year. McGahee goes 27 for 133 and 2 TD's. JP is average, which is a step in the right direction for him. 14-26 for 152 with a TD and a pick. Also rushes 4 for 37. Your man Gus is no match for the top pass defense in the league. 13-36 for 141 with a TD, two picks, and a lost fumble. Ronnie Brown is a decent 21 for 87 with a TD. Just like at Auburn, he's still Cadillac's little sister. Bills are up 10-7 at halftime, and the Thurman Thomas induction ceremony propels Buffalo to a 24-14 win. Also, Junior Seau leaves in the middle of the 3rd qtr so he can get the "Early Bird" dinner special and be in bed by 7:30pm.

You're crazy. I hear Pennington is on the market also. -
I'm impressed by the Chargers- last year was a fluke? Nobody told them. I'm impressed by Denver- lost to Miami, I thought they sucked. Now it looks like they may have it together. Tough to trust Plummer, though. I'm impressed by Miami- two nice wins. Bills have one sh*tty win. Coaching? I'm impressed that Chad Pennington got $RICH$ without ever making it through a full NFL season. I'm impressed by how much Randy Moss meant to Daunte Culpepper. I'm slightly impressed by the Colts D. Time will tell with that one. I'm impressed by the underdogs. The favorites may be winning, but they aren't covering. And my one question so far: Wouldn't the Niners prefer to rack up 100 yards of offense with Alex Smith in there, as opposed to Tim Rattay? It's pretty obvious they are going to suck either way...I understand the "confidence" factor and you don't want to "throw him to the wolves," but watching a pathetic team from the sidelines will leave him in the same spot at the beginning of next year.

I'm a lover not a fighter. If I'm fighting, it's cause I swooped in and stole a babe in a Zach Thomas jersey from a Miami fan, and he's pissed off about it. I knock the guy out, take his girl out for dinner, and buy her a Willis jersey to wear to the game next week.

I have to give the Bills staff the benefit of the doubt and assume that they realize they drastically under-used McGahee vs. the Saints. I will also assume that this will not happen again this Sunday. However, you never know with these guys (ex: A 25-yard run followed by a poorly-planned flea flicker ) I admit, much of my optimism has been crushed. And I have not seen the Dolphins play yet this year, so my predictions are all speculation (and bias.) Back when this game mattered, Kelly's Bills owned Marino's Fins. Channeling that spirit, I'm going to force myself to believe that the Bills rise up and play their best game of the year. Gus throws two picks and fumbles once. Ronnie Brown is decent- 21 carries for 87 yds and a TD. McGahee is the best player on the field, going 27 for 123 and 2 TD's. And JP, ohhh JP, we just want an average game. That's all we're asking. Losman 14-26 for 152 with a TD and a pick. On Thurman Thomas Day at the Ralph, 24-14 Bills win. -
What a blessing it was for Schottenheimer when Dan Snyder canned him from the Redskins (after the team had one of it's better seasons) and he fell ass-first into a division title in San Diego. But at least the Skins have Spurrier...

I can certainly appreciate what you're saying, but at least you knew the team was going to be terrible in those years. That post has the makings of a "Back in my day...." What about being a young, impressionable fan, watching his favorite team steamroll through the regular season and the playoffs, every year was supposed to be "the year," only to watch them die like dogs in the biggest game with everything on the line and the world watching? What about the ridicule your new favorite team is taking for being the only team ever to lose four straight Super Bowls? Is that any less miserable than 15 years of 4-12 football? I can't say for sure because I didn't start really getting into the Bills until around '84, but I remember those bad teams before the Kelly years. But the early 90's were both the Golden Age and the most heart-wrenching time.

How far are we out of 1st place?
smokinandjokin replied to SlamnSam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. In reality, the last thing I was expecting was a division championship. But the lack of progress and improvement from week to week is what makes me nervous. JP did look a little better on some of his throws Sunday compared to TB and ATL games, but 7 offensive points (I'll even give 'em 10 for the missed FG) is not going to win any games, much less a division. And Miami is not bringing a slouch defense to the Ralph Sunday. -

Right you are. From today's Buffalo News: Hard to say what's going to happen here...I'd assume more of the money will be on the Miami side. The Bills were 2.5 favorites against Saints in the opening line, and by Sunday it was a Pick'em or the Bills were a 1 point dog. How about Houston favored this week??? Titans suck. -
Just hypothetical.....Let's just say....

Tough to pass on either of them. Leinart probably goes 1, you have to give serious thought about taking Bush at 2. Since Willis needs a "breather" on 3rd down, who better to have in there than Bush? With superstars available at the top of the draft, they would also have to consider trading down...Teams would certainly want to move up to get one of the big-name players. -
I didn't see anything besides an 8-second Sportscenter highlight, but I heard Phillip Rivers was a disaster during the preseason for San Diego. Can anyone confirm or deny? I'd go easy on the trade talks after game 4....Man, this roller coaster is fast! Where's my helmet?

I think the Bills lofty goals, which may have been misguided to begin with, are now out the window. They are 1-3 with the "easy" part of their schedule about to come to an end. Is this team going to go 9-3 the rest of the way and make the playoffs? Never say never, but right now, you'd have to say no. One of my fondest memories is Ricky running for 225 and the Bills still thashing Miami in the snow. It's not really bravado, I just wanted to hear the crowd and read the signs at Ricky's first game back. I guess football-wise, it's better he's not playing, but I was judging solely on the entertainment value. -
It's true. The Fins have made a power move to the front of a (surprisingly) mediocre division. Now they face a sad Bills team up north on our turf. The pressure will be on Miami (well rested coming off a bye) to beat a Buffalo team which has shown no sign of even attempting to win in the last three weeks. Beware Puhonix! The Bills always have been able to rise up for the Dolphins (exception: 1970-79). And the man who loved this rivalry more than anyone else, Thurman Thomas, goes on the Ralph Wilson Stadium Wall of Fame Sunday-- I hope he comes in the locker room and lets the Bills know the importance that these games used to carry. Only two regrets for this game: 1) I wish it was December. There's something about seeing the Dolphins in their gay teal parkas fighting for space on the heated benches. 2) I wish Ricky was playing. When I first saw the schedule, I saw the 5th game against Miami, and I figured it would be his first game back from the 4 game weed suspension. I would have loved to see the signs and "props" brought in to the stadium if it was his first game. Plus I'm kinda scared of Ronnie Brown. Here's to the Bills pulling one out! Play well and win- Come on AFC East!!! Play like the last 3 and lose- Come on April Draft!!!

That's about 75,000 more than would have showed up in Arizona.

Congrats Simon- We have the idiot comment of the day. Just because you say something, it doesn't make it true. The following are AP rankings of both teams at the time the game was played- 2005-This year, according to you, the conference road wins (45-13 at #23 Oregon and 38-28 at #14 Arizona State) don't mean much because they weren't Top 10. So let's take a look at the last three years: 2004 (since you said top 10, I'll leave out the 45-7 thrashing of #15 Arizona St.)- #1 USC 24 #9 Virginia Tech 13 #1 USC 23 #7 Cal 17 #1 USC 55 #2 Oklahoma 19 *Orange Bowl 2003- #8 USC 23 #10 Auburn 0 #2 USC 28 #4 Michigan 14 *Rose Bowl 2002 #6 USC 44 #7 Notre Dame 13 #5 USC 38 #3 Iowa 17 *Orange Bowl That appears to be 7-0 vs. Top 10 teams in the last three years, including 3-0 in BCS Bowl Games. Nice post, though.

5 points from the Saints-Bills game
smokinandjokin replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Agreed. At least 25-30 would've seemed about right. Of course, he probably would've been in the 20's if we converted 3rd & 1 and 4th & 1. 4th down was not WM's fault, he had no chance there. 2. The play action was so sweet, it fooled neither of the two guys covering Moulds. 3. McGee was the only one on the field who looked like he wanted to be a difference maker. That return, had he scored and the Bills won, would've gone down in Buffalo lore. 4. They couldn't sell out, but the crowd got behind the Saints. The dome, for being relatively new, looks a little dumpy. 5. MM looks like a tool wearing the mock-turtleneck t-shirt. It's embarassing. Not even a polo shirt? Doesn't look too classy. -
I wish he did it a second time because I DID have $$ on the game...USC -16, needed one more TD
