I'm assuming (and seriously hoping) this is one of those instances where McD chooses not to publicly throw a player under the bus, but behind closed doors holds him 100% accountable for his piss-poor play. Because if McD REALLY didn't see a problem with KB's performance Sunday then he may be in way over his head as a coach in this league. I don't know what was worse regarding KB's play Sunday, his multiple drops(which included what SHOULD'VE been his easiest catch of the day and the rookie's first TD pass), his failure to compete for balls that were still catchable, OR his utter "could care less" attitude which was on display the entire game. I fully admit that I personally wanted to see some form of emotion from him, particularly after dropping that TD, and the fact that he showed nothing ticked me off something fierce. Agree. However, if he plays this way all year, I'll be shocked to see him get any offer more than a one year prove it kinda deal, for more than 6 or 7 mil. His excuse last year was he was returning from an ACL. He'll have nothing to blame another sh!tty year on. I have confidence Allen can get plenty of good balls his way. My hope is that if he finally starts getting some reliable and consistent looks that he finds the motivation to step his game up...

Excellent post. We are alarmingly devoid of talent on this roster, top to bottom. In the many posts asking what we think we could acquire for our current group of players, I found myself struggling to name more than 4 or 5 players(not including rookies or 2nd year players, or our starting safties)who would garner ANYTHING more than a 6th or 7th round pick(Shady, Lawson, Clay, Hughes). And despite Sunday's beatdown, I am surprisingly optimistic about our chances Sunday vs the Chargers. I was more than pleased with what I saw from Allen, and dammit that was the most impressive 6-14 for 74 yards display of quarterbacking I've ever seen. I dont find it ironic that once he got in there the line suddenly started playing better. He looked very comfortable back there, and he looked GOOD. Those receivers hold on to those balls that were on the money, Benjamin catches the TD pass that could only have been easier if Allen personally handed it to him, and Allen throws for over a hundred yards and has his first NFL touchdown in his first game. Count me among those that were ready to slit my wrists when we drafted Allen last spring. But now please count me among those who truly feels like we just may have found our franchise guy.

You make valid points on all accounts. I sincerely hope he has this team better prepared Sunday when we take the field vs the Chargers.

Agree with you on all 3 of those. I didn't think it was possible for Ducasse to regress from last season's play, but he worked his TAIL off yesterday........to prove me wrong. Seriously he shouldn't be starting. Hell I'm not even sure I want him as a backup, but do we have any other options right now? I'm definitely not opposed to giving Teller his baptism by fire....how much worse could he be?

Respectfully speaking, I don't think it's a very fair comparison, for the simple facts that BB is considered by many to be the greatest HC of all time, has more super bowl trophies than any other coach, and is a surefire lock 1st ballot HOFer. But to be honest, as dry of a human being Bellicheck is, and as vague and unhelpful he is to the media, I would be extremely surprised if the Pats got blown out 47-3 and he didn't shoulder some blame. McDermott isn't even in the same galaxy coachwise that Bellicheck is in, but watching his postgame yesterday, one might assume he was. I mean not even one hint of accountability from him really made me view him in a way I hadn't done prior to yesterday. Again this is just my opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised if he rubbed some of his own players the wrong way with that presser. This is twice now that he has gone with a QB that was clearly not qualified to run this offense.

+ 1000 I couldn't agree more that McDermott could've, no, should've had the nads to accept his share of the blame for yesterday's embarrassment. It's not about providing lip service, it's about being a HC and acknowledging the fact that a 47-3 blowout falls JUST as much on the coach as it does to the players, if not more so.

Maybe they got tired of him not wearing gloves, the way they got tired of Wade not wearing a headset. Just spitballin here...cause I have to say I say I considered him a practical lock to make the roster as the number 2 TE behind Clay.

I'm happy to hear Jimbo is doing well following surgery, but I cant lie it hurts my heart, and brings tears to my eyes to see my all-time favorite Bills player look so fragile. Cancer can kiss my a$$. I just found out today that my uncle Reggie has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. My mom's baby brother by 5 years, this is the man who introduced me to Buffalo Bills football. I was born in Buffalo but my mom moved with me to Northern Virginia when I was just one. My uncle Reggie is the one, out of 9 other aunts and uncles, who always came to visit me in Virginia, and brought my my first Bills jersey... it was in 1981, and that players name was Joe Cribbs. He took me to my first Bills game, at then Rich Stadium, and aside from myself has remained loyal to our Bills our whole lives. 40 something years later, whenever he comes to visit me, he ALWAYS brings me a Bills treat, whether it be a Bills t shirt, yearly calendar, or even just a Bills refrigerator magnet. Those little gifts are priceless to me, and even though my only child is a little girl, he bought her her first Bills onesie. He will forever be what Buffalo Bills football and the city of Buffalo means to me....everything. Please keep uncle Reggie in your prayers y'all, and thank you for taking the time to listen....Go Bills

Ironically enough, I actually have more pause making that trade than Shady for a 2nd straight up. Before the season began, I would've accepted a hearty 50 wing platter of pit bbq wings from La Novas(or Duff's for that matter) for Lawson. But from what I've seen, heard and read so far this season, I'm curious to see what a (finally) healthy and no excuses Lawson can do.

If you're McDermott/Beane, and the Falcons call you TODAY, and offer you this exact thing, do you accept? That's a tough decision and one I'm grateful I don't have to make....my gut says yes, pull the trigger. As much as we will probably have to rely on Shady this year, I just don't see how he alone can be the difference.... Just my two cents..

I like your post, and agree with pretty much all points you bring up, with the exception of us having a huge upgrade at OC. Dennison, IMO, was downright terrible, archaic, nauseatingly predictable and un-imaginative as an offensive coordinator. However, I'm still not sure what we have in Daboll. I dont really know what he did in his previous stints as Offensive coordinator with the Browns, Dolphins and Chiefs, but I'm guessing if he had been truly successful, he might've lasted longer than a year with each club? Dont get me wrong I've heard some good things about his innovative approaches, and his success at Alabama despite being hamstrung by mediocre QB play, (wouldn't mind getting SkyDiver's opinion on how he was viewed at Bama) but I will respectfully wait a few games or so until I declare him a huge upgrade over Dennison....but here's to hoping you are right...and sadly, it wont take much to officially declare him an upgrade over Dennison...

Agreed, but let me ask a very sincere question for all my fellow Bills fans: Let's say that Allen is forced into the starting lineup VERY prematurely(hypothetically speaking, due to a Peterman injury), week 2 or 3. Given practically a full year, he performs miserably. Given his expected growing pains as a rookie, let's say his struggles are due to the most significant knocks on him coming out of Wyoming. Poor decision making takes a distant back seat to woeful accuracy issues, to a point that lead many to justify their frustration with him being drafted by the Bills, especially with the 7th pick. Does he get a free pass for his performance, being he was a rookie? Do we chalk it up to our O-line's shortcomings/lack of talent? Or does McBeane acknowledge that maybe they reached for a player who they fell in love with because of his "large hands", and ability to throw in the snow, and look to draft 2019's BQA? Just had to ask. I'm pulling for him to succeed like most of us, but wanted to know what the community thought...

With a healthy Kyle, Trent and Star, I expect one man to reap the benefits more than others...and that is Jerry Hughes....I am anticipating double digit sack totals for Hughes this year, and wouldn't be at all surprised to see him collect at least two on Sunday.

Completely forgot about Lawson, and I agree that he needs to play possessed this year. You couldn't be more spot on about the fact this regime has absolutely no loyalty to him whatsoever. If he plays out of his gourd, they were patient with him, nurtured him so he could mature. If he has another lackluster season, just one more piece of the Whaley Era to rid the organization of...

I would not at all be surprised if Shady is traded away for a high round draft pick, provided early enough on we realize we have no shot at a winning season...Beane has done a phenomenal job of getting more than anticipated for players, and if Murphy plays as well as advertised, we could see the end of Shady in Buff. I would be inclined to think Clay is untouchable, at least for the upcoming year. But if he underachieves the way he did last year, I think this will be his last year here. We have a promising group of young talent at the TE position. Hughes is to me untouchable. He's our only bonafide pass rusher, and I think he's poised for a double digit sack year. Aside from Tre'Davius, Hyde and Poyer, I dont see anyone else as locks. (Rookies not included) Just my 2 cents

I would be beside myself with joy....I actually predicted us to lose this game, but only because I'm wrong every time I pick us to win. If we win Sunday, expect me to pick us to lose every week from here on out...until the streak is broken. Sure would be nice to know I hold the key to Buffalo's W/L record
