Another American Patriot Arrested
Lemur King replied to AlaskaDarin_Has_AIDS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You like this "American Patriot": (From Wiki) I weigh patriotism differently than you. -

Oil Companies make $1400... A SECOND
Lemur King replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If it only it was possible that they'd shrug. If you make money, it must be taken away at an ever-increasing rate. Awesome. -
That was fun. I just reread Revelation 16 (King James). I'm having trouble finding the 200 million man army from the East. (For the record, it would be logistically impossible for 200 million people, let alone an army, to move from China to Israel. And once they got to Israrel, they wouldn't even fit in the country, but whatever. Is this the part where the Bible is allowed to have poetic license?) http://www.bartleby.com/108/66/16.html I'm going to skip the rest of researching your predictions Nostradamus, but thanks for at least footnoting your sources. That you think your book (the Bible) is more correct than any other religion's book/prophecy is cute. Billy hopes Santa brings him GI Joe with the Kung-Fu grip too. Please don't breed.

Whatchu smokin' man? McNAbb has had flashes of greatness but nothing more. He'll go down as one of the better QBs of his era but not even a great QB in his own era. In the short pass WCO, his 58% completion percentage is not impressive. He's got no reputation as a clutch or 2 minute drill guy. He can't wash Kelly's balls. And he certainly can't even come close to carrying Moon's jock.
-
Yeah, let's just ignore Moon's 5+ years in the CFL. Think there's a reason Moon was in the run-and-shoot? Because he could execute it. It's not like the WCO is not a pass-happy attack. The Eagles ALWAYS pass more than throw. That's the knock against them. Moon is WAY WAY better.
-
No debate. Moon was loads better. McNabb will be out as starter in another year or 2 so it's fair to ocmpare numbers. Completion percentage is the same at 58%. Yds/Game: Moon over McNabb 237-211 Yards for career: Moon over McNabb by a mile 50,000-25,000 TDS: Moon by a mile again: 292-171 McNabb is clearly a better scrambler but that's it. Moon was way better. Neither one had particularly gifted offensive weapons around them. Even if McNabb has 3 more good years (the awesome years are behind him), he'll never catch Moon.

New term enters Olympic/sporting lexicon?
Lemur King replied to stevewin's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Chinese probably would have won anyways. Unfortunately, "pulling a Norwood" is still more common in the lexicon. Our mental toughness is OK considering our gymnasts don't compete for their next meal. Those Chinese gymnasts get caned when they lose. On the related note about the Chinese gymnasts being underage, I liked the Chinese coach's retort (paraphrased), "You talk about our gymnasts being underaged. How would you like me to talk about the US gymnasts being on muscle enhancing drugs. Look at the body differences." Touche from the Chinese. -
We need Steve Austin. Why was Steve Austin's nemesis the Sasquatch anyways?

OK. I love good give and take discourse, but a response to this can be boiled down to something more elegant. You're a d---.

I take it back.

But Andrew did not leave an entire city unhabitable- and unapproachable (for the most part). Andrew was a piker compared to this. When the levee broke, it was lights out on every rescue effort and effective food delivery operation. There was nothing- not a damn thing- anyone could do once the levee broke. Feeding and sheltering 60,000 people, most of whom have been displaced from their homes (as was less so the case with Andrew) cannot be done overnight. This is the worst disaster ever in the US. And despite people's complaints that it could be forseen, who was willing to pay several billion to raise the levees and build new canals. Don't blame Bush (who I hate)-- the USACE budget has been slashed every year for the last 30- this is not a Republican problem. It's just a problem. And frankly, as a taxpayer, I'm not sure I would have wanted a shitload of money funneled to NO levees either. You want a list of possible big natural disasters that you could pay for right now? (1) SF falls into the ocean. Should we have an entire navy search and rescue operation at the ready to rescue a few million people who might die? I vote no. (2) Massive irrigation problems in the midwest cuts off almost all water that AZ relies on to survive. Should we have 8 quadrillion gallons of water somewhere for these people (keeping in mind that you have to keep replentishing the supply)? I vote no. (3) The massive volcano under yellowstone erupts and drops a dustcloud that kills all the crops in 5 surrounding states. Should we have food and farm supplies on hand to feed the country while we "sweep" out the debris from five states (should be easy). I vote no. Natural disasters are terrible and horible, and we can only hope they don't happen, although in the coming years they will happen with increasing frequency. (READ THE BIBLE!) The people chanting "help" in the streets will get it. It's coming, but you know what- it can only go so fast. In the end, I have no doubt certain things could have been done better here, but I don't know how much better.

There's a lot of stuff here- I'll just pick out the civil engineering aspects. You can't raise the city of New Orleans above sea level. Jeezus Friggin Cripes. That would be a multi-trillion dollar project. Keep this in mind when you think of things like this: moving the earth is REALLY REALLY expensive. That's why roads are narrow little things and built only a little above their natural elevation. And I can't even imagine where you'd get a few trillion tons of backfill. So scratch that. Regarding the Love Canal Comment- you're right. Love Canal was a few square blocks. This is several areas of several square miles. My former environmental clean-up company is headed down there en masse, but no one on the planet has ever tried to do an environmental clean-up like this. Razing the blocks that are the worst is almost a given. Whether to rebuild- who knows? Those hundreds of thousands of people? They can't just "go get jobs other places." This is an unprecedented job loss spike. Our economy can't just easily absorb those folks who want to work. And what about the hundreds of thousands of poor people who had nothing and still ahve nothing? Where are they going to go? What city wants a hundred thousand people displaced from the ghetto? What's about to happen: big recession. This jolt makes 9-11 look like a fuggin kid's game. On 9-11, the US lost a building and some confidence. Last weekend, we lost one of the biggest US cities and several key ports.

ANTI-WAR PROTESTORS
Lemur King replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That's unfair. It's like asking the anti-gay rights people to justify the protests of these wackos at funerals. God kills Americans because we harbor gays Not too many people come to the rescue of their fringe nutjobs except to say they have the right to protest because its America. -

DirectTV only $14.99 per month

Coming from the guy who just started a thread about deals on DirecTV? Thanks O great one. -
I bike everywhere. But the reason this model works in European countries is because they are a lot smaller, and people work closer to home. An hour commute is unheard of in Europe. The average- AVERAGE- American's commute is like 30 minutes. You can't make a mass transit system that works- for an affordable rate- in a country our size. That being said, I bike and take the train every day, because I can. But lots of people can't.

This is terrible PR from our boys at OBD. I have to hear about SURGERY from the damn AP!? Hello- Bills- what is going on with our top pick?! I understand not announcing anything after X-rays, because maybe they were inconclusive, but if he's had surgery, there's been a diagnosis.

More fodder for the ID-Evolution debate
Lemur King replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits

More fodder for the ID-Evolution debate
Lemur King replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There's no accepted theory at this point for how life came into being, and if you want to say god did it, that's fine, and maybe a lot of scientists agree with you. But those same scientists will be looking for the mechanism for how god made life happen. Just like those scientists look for the mechanism for how god made humans (maybe) evolve from apes. That's science. Understanding those mechanisms helps the arrogant little species help itself. -
More fodder for the ID-Evolution debate
Lemur King replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It can be true, I guess, and I have no problem with discussing ID in a metaphysical perspective. Aristotle speculated on ID, as have many since. ID is just the end game that says all things originate with god. That's not science. It's philosophy. You can't test ID (yet?). You can't predict using ID. These are two pretty big failings of ID as science. -
More fodder for the ID-Evolution debate
Lemur King replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Of course evolution is a theory. At the moment, it's the best scientific predictor of what has been observed at a macro (monkeys through all their more upright varieties towards humans) level, as well as a micro (gene based) level. It's not perfect because it can't explain everything, but it's science... not religion. As to why we coexist with apes, lots of species that evolved from each other coexist, or coexisted. Many of the Homobillinnyceous tree overlapped for thousands of years. See Wiki chart on overlaps of homo species
