  1. Yeah leave it to the Bills to get rid of a franchise cornerstone like Terrence Pennington. It obviously had nothing to do with the fact that he was a sh------- tackle drafted in the 7th round who was forced to start due to injury and was out of football about a year later. We all know it was because he was ready to blossom into a perennial pro bowler and the Bills cut him loose so they wouldn't have to pay him.
  2. I can understand having people over to drink and watch a game or fight or something but to watch porn together as a group seems a little weird to me.
  3. Sickening turn of events with about a minute to play. Miami blows a two goal lead in the last minute, BU ties it with 18 sec left. Went from having a national championship all but locked up to overtime. I knew at that point we would loose and sure enough, halfway through OT, BU gets a fluke goal to win the title. I think I should stop watching sports because I've realized none of my teams will ever win "the big one" and they will probably continue to come close enough to make me believe, only to rip my heart out in same old fashon. Sigh, time for another shot and a beer....
  4. BU ties it. Should be a great finish.
  5. Wow! 2 quick goals by Vermont to take the lead!
  6. Sorry Bemidji State, nice run and good story but a dominating performance tonight by my alma mater. Can't believe that we'll be playing for a national title! Good luck Redhawks, bring it home Saturday night! Love and Honor to Miami!
  7. Yeah my time at that BW3'S would have been fall of 06 & 07. I just ate a Thurman burger Wednesday night! I assure you it's still going strong especially after some recent pub from a man vs. food episode. To answer your question yes Bexley is very nice but is expensive in general. We ended up here though a unique financial situation but we're very lucky and glad to be here. As Aio said Mohawk is another great place in German Village. In the 2-3 years I've lived here, I have never been disappointed. Good friend of ours lives literally two doors down from it. Mother Mohawk sandwich is amazing! (roast beef topped with homemade chicken salad & horseradish mayo on the side). Also, Lindy's is probably our favorite restaurant in Cbus. It is expensive in general (esp. when you throw in drinks, salads, etc.) but they do have a number of things on the menu that are very reasonable. Also, even the more expensive entrees are around $30 so it's not completely outrageous. Nice for a special occasion.
  8. I've lived in Columbus since I graduated undergrad in '06. I really like living here. It's big enough in that there are plenty of great areas to eat, go out, shop, etc. At the same time, it's still small enough to get around town relatively easy (not like a Chicago, Houston, Etc.) I lived in an apartment in downtown Columbus for about 2 years in an area called the Brewery district. It's kind of adjacent to the German Village area many have mentioned. Lots of great places to eat there. Almost a year ago my fiance and I moved to Bexley which is a suburb on the East side just a few miles from downtown. We are in our mid 20's and love the location because it's still close to downtown but has a suburban feel to it. Very nice neighborhood that is in between some less nice areas a few miles on each side. From what I understand the Bexley school system is very good and we live around the corner from the high school. Houses here are generally expensive but range from some "mansion" like houses on main street to your average houses tucked in the side streets. As far as Bills bars, I used to go to the BW3's on South High street that somone mentioned in the thread (was walking distance at the time) and usually encountered a couple Bills fans. I have the ticket now so I watch at home but I know the official Bills backers bar is called Spoonz on Sawmill road. It's just off 270 on the North side of town. Owner is from Buffalo and very nice. Introduced himself and gave us a free shot that had aunt rosies loganberry in it the first time I came in. I watched a handful of games there and it was great to watch with a crowd of 30 or so Bills fans. Lots of Bills and Sabres stuff in the bar too. Anyways, I've only lived here a few years but would be happy to answer any other questions I could. My fiance grew up in Westerville and like the others have mentioned it is a very nice area with lots to offer.
  9. I agree that TD did plenty of good things and that it was a big mistake getting rid of a "true" GM. However I have to disagree with that bolded statement (or at least modify it). Next to coach selections, maybe the biggest reason TD's teams failied was his refusal to address the offensive line. We had playmakers on those teams and a qb with a big arm but aside from Williams it seemed like they never wanted to devote any real resources to the o line. TD's ultimate failure (relating to player personnel) was focusing too much on "flashy" skill position players and not on the lines where games are won and lost.
  10. Had some Great Lakes Commedore Perry the other day and had Burning River in my hand today as I haven't had it in a while. At the last second I switched and grabbed the Eliot Ness. Hard to go wrong with Great Lakes.
  11. Love his show. Very funny guy with some great commentary throughout each episode. Usually catch myself laughing out loud a couple times a show. I actually saw something a couple months ago about how they had a contest to have him do an episode on your home city. The guy from Buffalo made the final 3, but didn't win. Bourdain really liked the "feel" he got from the Buffalo guy and said something insinuating that a Buffalo episode would be inevitable.
  12. Have you ever been to Memphis? I am there many times throughout the year for work and the only positives are pork barbeque and Beale street. It's really bad.
  13. I literally live down around the corner from Giuseppes in Columbus (more accurately Bexley) and have eaten there a handful of times. I have been less than impressed each time. I agree the atmosphere is great especially eating outside on the street on a nice summer night, but I have only had average food there. I got the lasagna one time and it was flat out bad. Almost cold and tasted like it came out of a frozen food section. I will say that I'm a semi picky eater and may not have made the best choices but my fiance likes about anything and she thinks it is just average too. We have friends that love it though so it proves "to each his own". Now back on topic, I've had a few that stick out in my mind. Had a great steak at a Ruth Chris' in Columbus but probably can get the same at any nice steakhouse. Had an amazing lobster thermidor while in St. Martin. Had a gluttonous experience at one of those all you can eat Brazillian steakhouses in Panama City, Fl. Had some great "low country" cooking and seafood in Charleston, SC. One of the best overall (maybe best) has been at Cameron Mitchell's Ocean Club at Easton in Columbus. Had salt & pepper tuna and jalapeno potatoes au gratten (sp?). Fiance had blue cheese mashed potatos as a side that were also so good that they should have been illegal. A place that is our favorite though is Lindy's in Columbus' German Village. Been there countless times and each time the food and service has been exceptional. We're even having our rehersal dinner for our fall wedding there. One area I have never visited and need to for seafood consuming purposes alone is the Northeast. I can only imagine taking down a nice Maine lobster that just came in that day. Great thread though, I could go on and on.....mmm
  14. Like throwing a rope down a mine shaft....
  15. During one of my undergrad years, my fraternity held a festivus celebration. We gathered around the festivus pole and had the airing of grievances. Feats of strenght were supposed to happen after we all got back from the bars but it never materialized. Still, it was a good celebration for a fantastic holiday!
  16. But they're not on a 2 game win streak, and it's a direct result of the coach. I've said this before but of course they all like Jauron. Wouldn't you love your boss if you knew you could F up and probably not even have a word said to you about it? Jauron is a nice guy, but is a p*ssy and a proven looser. We need to upgrade some talent, but we need a coach in here who will light a fire under some guys and actually have a team ready when a game REALLY means something.
  17. That's pretty f'n depressing considering a couple months ago I was in Miami with a good buzz and the Bills had just taken the lead in the 3rd quarter with a very nice drive capped by a TD run by Marshawn. In good position to be 6-1. In that moment, if you had told me the Bills would be 7-8 heading into our last game I would have called you a dumbass. Oops, who's the dumbass now
  18. I don't give a !@#$ if either one of them are on the practice field every day until midnight and in the film room till dawn. They both blow. I could see Denny as strictly a backup but he is paid WAY too much for even that role. I say get rid of them both, and use the combined salary towards someone who will actually get to the QB instead of run past him every play.
  19. The Patriots have won 3 rings and came close to a 4th last year (not to mention a perfect regular season) with Brady. Unless they somehow MAKE the playoffs and at least make the AFC championship game, I can't see any way that they could even think about dumping Brady. I think the Pats miss out on the playoffs, Cassel goes somewhere for big $ next year and is average, and Brady is back in action next year. That's what sucks even more about our collapse this year. Everything was right there for us to step up and become great competition for the division crown and we blew it. Even if we made the playoffs and lost 1st round, we still would have to be respected next year. Instead, we've made no progress and appear to be the "same 'ol Bills". Throw in the turnaround of the Fish and Jets and it adds salt to the wound.
  20. I think that's the point that many of us are trying to make regarding this coaching staff. They seem to do the safe/conservative thing when you should use a bit of creativity, and do the opposite when the obvious thing should be done. They seem to have a terrible sense of when to mix it up and get creative (as well as when to challenge, when to go for it on 4th, etc) That red zone series would have been the time to try a "safe" bootleg pass. Not on your own 20 yardline when there's 2 min left, you're winning, and have a 2nd and 5.
  21. Your #1 in your argument is inherantly flawed. Coaches don't make it 5 years UNLESS they win. The worst part about our coaches & playcalling is that other teams seem to be able to accurately predict what we do depending on the formaiton and down/distance. The announcers made an interesting point relating to that today. They were talking about their conversation with Cutler yesterday and how he told them they would have 2 plays called on every offensive down and that they would pick the "right" one because Denver would know what we were doing defensively. Call me crazy but that reeks of second rate coaching.
  22. If the Bills were 8-8 en route to a playoff birth would you complain? Personally, I think the NFL playoff system is the best in pro sports, and is the main reason the NFL is the juggernaut it is (well that and fantasy fb). Makes your division and conference games very important. I like how only 12 or the 32 teams make it unlike the NHL and NBA.
  23. Gotta disagree a little bit. When Trent says this stuff you can tell it is actually going through his head as the play is happening. He makes his decisions based on what he sees. I think JP understands defenses in the film room but when he is actually in there he is completely lost. Some of the worst pocket presence/awareness I have ever seen. I can remember listening to JP's post game stuff and he was famous for rambling off some "well they were in cover 2, and the safety bit on the play fake, so the TE running the seam up the middle was our best route...." kinda crap (esp in 2006). Just seemed like he was always trying to seem game smart even though he would instinctively do some of the dumbest things you could imagine.
  24. I share your sentiments. It would have been real nice to have beat the Browns, Niners, and gotten Miami or the Jets once so the the AFC East would be totally up for grabs next week. I know Denver is not very good but isn't it just maddening that we can go on the road and win one like that but can't pull out one of the about four "must win" games we were involved in. (including 2 or 3 at home )
