The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
ieatcrayonz replied to 30dive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In my note I had told you to I wanted to keep politics out. You are right that the Fitzgeralds are connected to the Libby case, but the prosecutor is not their son. He's something like a third cousin. The Fitzgeralds and Libbys were in business together for many years. It was primarily distribution. That is how Edmund got his money for the boat. One day at the warehouse, a pallet of anvils fell on two other pallets. One was oranges, the other was cranberries. Now this sort of thing happened all the time. This time when clean up was being done, one of the Libby kids put his hand down in the mess. He noticed it smelled good. It tasted good too this mixture of oranges and cranberries. This launched the idea for a variety of juices. When the Fitzgeralds hemmed and hawed about the Libby's new idea of selling the juice, they decided to accept the Libby family's offer of a leveraged buy out. It wsa all quite amicable until business started booming. There was jealousy on the part of the Fitzgeralds and the Libbys sensed this. Flush with cash and always having been pricks anyway they decided the new company song should be: It says Libby's Libby's Libby's on the label label label. Although it was certainly immature, it does not justify the Fitzgerald vendetta that has ensued. -

Ha Ha. Very funny. They should have attacked her for leaving all those tags on her hats. -

All joking from the monkey aside, she was Edmund's wife. It is a little known fact that in addition to the song about Fitzgerald's private yacht, Lightfoot had another song involving his buddy Fitzgerald. Now I don't want to turn this into a political argument, but I have to lay out all of the facts. I hope no one gets offended. Before the Fitzgeralds were married, Ella was a little loose. Both Edmund and Lightfoot had slept with her. Her maiden name was Reese. You may remember her from Chico and the Man. She was terrific in that. There was a bit of a comptetition. After Fitzgerald won out, in anger Lighfoot wrote and produced the song "Piece Train" which is what he had unflatteringly called Ella behind her back. It was clearly mysonginistic and probably exposed some of his underlying feelings about women in general. The conversion by Lightfoot to Islam, a religion not exactly known for women's rights, came a few years later. -
It was me. No. Wait a minute. I'm Ed. Never mind.

Nice try at the Peter Pan link. Do you think I'm some sort of idiot? I'm not clicking. -

Maybe he did. One day in the shower! The version you hear on the radio is by Harry Chapin Carpenter. Bill Withers wasn't even a singer. He was the drummer for Dire Straights on their first few albums. -

You are partially right and partially wrong. Gordon Lightfoot was the singer. Chapin sang Lean on me. It wasn't the one from the movie, but the one that was re-made in a disco like manner years later. Chapin was also the guy that died in the car accident. Too young. His full name was Harry Chapin-Carpenter. His sister in law Karen starved herself to death after the crash. There had been rumors of an affair. That poor family has certainly been through a lot. -

Please don't lecture me on music. I grew up surrounded by it. One of my sisters even went to Jewel Yard. -

Um.......Jim Croce died. He is definitely not the Islamic one. What do you think, he's like Elvis or something? -

I agree it was a good song but it was not by Lightfoot or Stevens. It was by the Police. It wasn't their first hit, but it was their first big hit. "Send it on an SOS.......Send it on an SOS...." -

I can see how you got confused there. It was definitely Lightfoot. Another one of his hits was "The Cat's in the Cradle" so I can see how you got the two singers confused. -

I always thought he was good too. He has a right to his religion and all, but I think it was pretty sad when he became Yusef Islam. He hasn't had any good music since, and he is actually pretty militant. -
I don't sound like a fart.

If it sounds like a fart, and smells like a fart, and lingers like a fart, it is probably a fart.

The other thread was pretty good so how about unexpectedly bad movies? Mine is 2001: A Space Odyssey I only recently saw this. All I have to say is LAME! It was supposed to be one of the all time great science fiction movies but: No Aliens visible. EVER!!!!!!! No lasers A computer that talks but doesn't sound like a robot (and also has a stupid name) Was there even a story line? If I want that music, I'll just hop in an elevator At least please throw in a hot chick in a space suit What movie did you think would be good but it ended up stinking? Even though 2001 was definitely horrible, please pick another one or this thread will be boring.

Ed doesn't even post here that much any more so leave him alone.

Thanks. I'm glad to know someone has my back.

Maybe you just weren't paying attention in Alien versus Predator. Did you see the part where they explained why the pyramids were on Earth? They used the Hyroglyphics and everything. I thought the first Alien was good, the second was ok and the rest stank. Predator always stank, but this movie was good because it was entertaining but still had a history lesson in there too. In this way, it was sort of like Braveheart.

For people who hate Ashlee Simpson

I think you may be confused. That substance with which you've been coating your Ashlee CD's makes you fertile, not sterile. In fact, it is the very essence of fertility. In the future, you may want to keep these thoughts private. -
What movie did you think would be really crappy but actually turned out good? I'd have to say "Alien vs. Predator". I wouldn't have even watched it if HBO wasn't running it and I couldn't sleep, but when I did, WOW! I expected a lame story and some good but predicatable action. The action was good and not totally predicatable, but the story was great. It went deeply into the culture of the Predators and gave a very plausible theory for the pyramids on Earth. It really made me think. Check it out.

You were with Paris Hilton and all you did was watch a movie? She has a reputation as being easy. It's probably not true. I'm sure she wouldn'tkiss on the first date, but you should have at least given it a try.

Nice list. I like the blues a lot also. One blues band that is overrated and underrated at the same time is The Moody Blues. Nights in White Satin is a good blues tune but does lack the signature guitar of your favorite style of blues.

Not to be an !@#$ but I have a question. Why are you interviewing for an admin job working with an architecture that you know nothing about? That's like asking an MCSE what the different run levels are in Linux. To answer your question. There are some good exchange forums on the net. I'm sure most have a sticky thread pointed to good tutorials. One website that comes to mind is slipstick.com. There was also a good compuserve forum (open to the public) that had some good info in it. I can't recall the URL for that off the top of my head. Good luck!

John Williams also did the score for Laverne and Shirley, which garners my vote. One word: Schlamazo. Boy was that terrific. If they ever did a movie version of L & S that theme song would leap to the top.
