We're arguing over semantics here, but I think your terminology is a bit off here. His name was in the press because he was in fact arrested. Once that happened, it's not a matter of telling them who it was because it's going to get out there no matter what they do.

If at some point they said every body of sand on this course is a designed bunker, then I'm completely fine with it. Either way though, they screwed up big time with this one and it's a giant black eye for the game. Had Johnson sunk the putt, this would have been right up there with the blown perfect game call earlier this year in MLB (from a pure "shocking turn of events" point of view). Linksfield, I'd love to see the whole quote because it's obvious that one source decided to run with one half and the other went with the second half. A classic case of how the media can spin comments.

The gang thing was a complete no brainer right from the start. These kind of things almost never happen without gang ties. The raging lunatic who shoots up a places because he's lost his mind tend to do that during peak hours and not 2:30am or whatever it was.

Now you've got me thinknig of the Burton Batman movie where they made the Joker the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents. His motivation for being Batman was completely shot after the ending of that movie. -

A space needed to open up before she was accepted, so I'm guessing she framed him. -

Definitely corny, but at least it fit the mood. What they have in there now is completely generic and sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm guessing John Williams had absolutely nothing to do with it. And yes, I realize there were other changes in the 3 movies that aren't so welcomed by most fans. I just happened to watch Jedi on Spike TV yesterday so it's fresh in my memory. -
If you look at what you posted earlier it says "All areas of the course that were designed and built as sand bunkers will be played as bunkers". That does not cover every spot of sand on the course. As they were saying on the broadcast yesterday, in order to be a bunker, it needs to have a lip. With where the fans were standing, there was no way he could possibly see a lip. Was it trampled down by the fans during the course of the week? Probably. The big question which I haven't seen answered yet (haven't gone searching for it either) is if there are any waste bunkers anywhere on that course. If not, then Johnson definitely screwed up. But if there are random waste bunker areas scattered throughout that course then there was little to no way of him knowing if that was one or not.

I won't buy anything until they remove Hayden Christensen from the ending of Jedi and restore the original celebration music at the end. It actually bridges into the closing theme unlike what they've switched to now. -
Craigslist Killer Commits Suicide In Jail

I have a friend at med school at BU who was on the waiting list for admission and his arrest just happened to occur at the same time that she was finally officially accepted. That little coincidence has been fun. -
They get info that a guy out on parole with a violent history is at the party and a witness IDed him... sounds to me like more than enough reason to label someone as a suspect. Now, moving from that to filing charges is another story. The one thing I can't make out from these stories is just how far things moved along with this guy.

Every time I see news coverage of this, I wonder if there's more than 5 people out there who don't immediately think "idiots!". I wish they'd cover this story for what it really is, stupid people getting killed because they're doing something stupid. I'll start watching any media outlet that says that right up front. -
And since his being there violated his parole, he deserves to be in jail.
-
A quick question for those of you that have seen this already. What drew you to seeing it? Were you familiar with the comic series ahead of time? I ask because I've never heard of it and the previews don't look the least bit appealing to me. I'm curious about what the draw is here.

I would want to be played by a monkey. Someone really needs to make a movie with a 100% monkey cast. Is that one that tore that woman's face off last year still alive? I want him. -
Other than having the muscle required to putt the ball that far, I can't imagine that this is a skill a guy will ever lose no matter how old he gets (as long as he can still walk).
-
My dad did that once. He hit a tiny tree that had just been planted and it somehow riccocheted back and hit him in the leg. Funniest thing I've ever seen. The tree was so small that there was no way that should have happened, but somehow it did. I wish I had thought to mention the 2 stroke penalty. That would have been even better. And for anyone who watched the playoff, they saw that the rules officials were quickly offering up options to Watson on where he could drop his ball after he hit it into the water. He wasn't even asking and the guy was quick to mention that he could also go to the other side or back on the line of flight, into the fairway. So if they're only there to answer questions, he overstepped his bounds a bit. They needed to clear the people out of the thing while he was hitting. With them standing there, no one had a clue how big the thing was and it definitely looked like a small patch of sand. They screwed up big time and you can be sure they'll change things up majorly in 2015 because of it.
-
If you're in a hazard you can't touch the ground with your club at any point other than when you hit the ball. He grounded his club at least once prior to the shot.
-
I don't know. Johnson has imploded twice now on the big stage. The Pebble Beach one was obvious, but this was a bit of an implosion too even without the club grounding. All he had to do was lay off a bit and hit a straight tee shot and that tourney is probably his. Both of his first 2 shots on 18 were completely unnecessary and put him in trouble. The putt was no gimme either, but he probably should have hit it. The one I'm most curious to see is where McIlroy goes. He seems to be right up there at most of these majors now, which is downright impressive for a 21 year old. One other thought. The push of the younger guys is obvious, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the older guys stepped up next year and took things over again.
-
These young guys have to actually win one first though. What I see now is a bunch of guys who don't have a clue how to finish. Sure, that should happen at some point, but the tour is full of guys that we're still waiting to see their first win, whether it's a younger guy like Sergio or one of the now old timers like Montgomery.
-
Better yet, the rules official should have said something to him right away. That would imply that the official following their group was even aware of it.
-
I have no problem with it being called a bunker, but if that's what it is, keep the damn fans out of it for the entire week.
-
I noticed it the second he backed off an had his caddie block the light, but never thought twice about it. Hell, I was completely shocked to see the ball in sand since it was dead center in the crowd. Someone's going to win this thing and they'll feel great about it, but they'll always have this screwjob in the back of their heads. Now imagine if he had sunk the "par" putt.

Check espn.com. I'm guessing their explanation will be a bit less slanted than mine.
