I'm having a hard time caring about this one. I just don't expect this one to help or hurt us one bit.

There's going to be change, but like you said, there are enough aspects to this game that it can continue to thrive after those changes. I do think the NFL could very easily fall off of its pedestal though because of all of this. The talent dilution is a very strong possibility, but none of us will live to see it. We're talking about a 50-100+ year thing. There are other sports like boxing which I don't know how they can survive this. Its popularity is already way down and with more concussion issues coming to light, there's going to be very little justification for going that route. All I know is that if I'm the completely unrealistic parent who thinks my kid is going to make it as a pro athlete, I'd much rather it be baseball or golf. Low risk AND the atmosphere would be great. Follow my kid around on a beautiful golf course during great weather? Sign me up.

A friend of mine went to BC and got married 2 years ago. His party was full of people who went to BC and BU, so his plan was to bounce around from bar to bar, all of the places we went while we were in college. That was a good time, if for nothing else than all the old stories coming to mind, especially the questionable way he wound up meeting his wife.

It's going to be like that for every league. The big money cities drive every league. Bills fans are quite the die hard group. Would success in Buffalo enhance the league in any way? No, it wouldn't. It's only victories by the NYs, Bostons, and LAs of the world that wind up drawing more eyes.

We're definitely standing at the edge, very close to a point where there are going to be broad changes across professional sports. Some will eventually die but I don't think it will be the NFL. They're going to figure out what they need to change.

Personally, I don't think any fan or city deserves anything. That kind of thought just leads to the annoying elitist attitudes that are so widespread among hockey fans. A hockey fan in Buffalo, a hockey fan in Winnipeg, a hockey fan in Carolina... they're all the same.

I don't buy into this idea of fans deserving championships, but what exactly qualifies as suffering for fans? For those people down there who truly do follow that team, they've now had to deal with the possibility of losing their team on a yearly basis. If that's not suffering, I don't know what is.

Battleship is the studio playing it safe? That was the time I have ever seen an entire theater audience collectively laugh at a trailer for a non-comedy movie.

Are they all fans of ridiculous run on sentences too?

Isn't Castle a pretty successful show right now? They'd have a hard time doing Firefly without the main character.

And it's not the least bit surprising, but I've already seen ads for the movie version of the Battleship game, complete with "special weapons".

I hate that I won't be able to see the Avengers this weekend. That will probably be the only one from this batch that I do see in theaters, but I'll want to see MIB and the Dictator at some point. Oh, and does Johnny Depp ever not play an androgynous character?

You can be the toughest fighter in the world, but you know you'll never get much done wearing all that restrictive padding.. I'd really love to know what was going through Marty's mind during that whole incident.

The sets thing was interesting. I slipped up and lost count before doing the diagonals and had to start over, but I did wind up with those 19. And yeah, that has to be a typo. If you change the cell they listed, it looks like there's no change in the count. If I'm eyeing this up correctly, the cell everyone else has mentioned is the only one that actually leads to a decrease in the count.

Eckhart was good, but personally, I'm not a crazy about giving out two nominations for the same movie. He was overshadowed by Ledger in every way, so there really is no sense in giving him a nod as well. You do have to wonder though how that movie would have been received without Ledger's death. He still would have nailed that best supporting actor award, but would the receptions have been more about the movie instead? That's what makes the Spiderman reboot such a head scratcher to me. It's way too early. Even if you ignore that absolute trainwreck of a third movie, it's still only been 8 years since #2. But hey, maybe that's the new standard, you get a decade window from the FIRST movie of the series.

It's just a contributing factor. No one is ever going to try to make the claim that the head injures are the direct cause. Well, no one who is reasonable anyway. Short of some condition caused by a specific gene, just about every medical condition is based on a collection of factors. All those plates of french fries didn't cause that heart attack, but they definitely didn't help. Too often people want to say that since something isn't the main cause, there's no reason to deal with it. If we can make steps towards correcting this problem, then we can move on and go after those other causes as well. And yes, that emotional drop off you mentioned probably does have a big impact on certain people. It makes you wonder though why it hits some so much harder than others. Wait, did Hamdan actually get his revenge?

Because we watch them on a daily basis. Unfortunately there's an "out of sight out of mind" mentality when it comes to the soldiers you suggested. Then again, there is some sort of forum somewhere out there for them as well (and I don't mean a message board specifically).
