  1. Only exception being that for Edwards. He lost a bunch of $$$$. Hope he's been saving his dough and has another career in the works.
  2. How dare you call us old geezers, it's...well...ooops, you were calling Blanda "the old geezer". Never mind..... By the way, that was one great finish. Buffalo was really excited after that win. Bills went 9-5 that year but lost to the powerful Steelers in the playoffs.
  3. I went with Kelsay mainly because it sickens me to hear the Bills are extending his contract.
  4. I believe you meant "most people", and even at 500K per year (4 years), that does not come anywhere near what most people will earn in "5 lifetimes". Do the math.........
  5. Dennis Shaw was a weak armed QB who threw a very catachable ball, but his long passes seemed floating balloons. Lots of air under them, and not very deep. He did win the NFL AP Rookie of the Year in 1970, but even then he threw only 10 TDs and had 20 INTs that year. In 1971 he led the league in INTs (26) while throwing just 11 TD's. 1972 was a tad better, 14 TDs vs. 17 INTs. Lou Saban replaced him in week 3 of the 1973 season with Joe Ferguson. Shaw was traded to the Cardinals in 1974 and was also with the Cardinals in 1975 (backup roles both years).
  6. Yes sadly, Mitchell is on IR. He would be a step up whether he played inside next to Poz, or at OLB. By far a better player than Kelsay, Davis, Ellison, or Maybin.
  7. Poz, while not an all-pro inside LB, is light years better than Maybin, and Whitner. Before him, 4/5 of the team would need to be released.
  8. Sounds like sound advice...
  9. Can't argue with that.............
  10. Basically, Chan said they released Edwards. No insights, no comment on whether we'll sign another QB. Only thing he added was that they've decided to work with Brohm and not carry Edwards only to run the scout team.
  11. Very well stated R. Rich..................
  12. The decision was not made solely on any one factor, but any coach worth his salt, realizes that the supposed leader on the field, must command respect from his team mates, as well as elevate their play through his own leadership. Trent had lost any belief in him, both from his fellow players, and the fans that pay the bills.
  13. My feeling of the mood was that Fitz would be the best backup, qualified and fairly capable. What was the underlying hope was that someone (Trent, Levi, the ball boy, someone) would step up and show they would be a capable starter in this league. For a personal point of view, my only gripe with Fitz is his maddening lack of consistent accuracy. What that said, I like to see Fitz succeed and play well. Maybe Gailey, the reported QB Guru, will now focus his attention of a guy who has some moxy, and needs to nail down his footwork to gain most consistent accuracy. After all, who else does Gailey have? Brohm? That doesn't seem likely at this point.
  14. I not only agree this is completely plausible, it's likely to be dead on. Evans spoke of the lack of understanding and confidence in Trent, albeit in a diplomatic manner. Currently listening to WGR (for the Bills presser).....
  15. So Fitz was on the field blocking for Spiller on the kickoff returned for a TD? Your accuracy is near that of Fitz (he QB'd the Bills on 23 points).
  16. One can only hope that Carrington will get to start playing soon. After watching Stroud today, he's far too slow for a DE. He runs like a DT, in traffic. No pass rush ability, no zip, no jump off the snap, nothing. He's playing the run very poorly as well. Here's to hoping the Bills send Stroud and Maybin for the beer at game time this week. Time to give Carrington a look. Our D is in trouble. George Edwards better have a rabbit in his hat.....and he needs it NOW.
  17. Loved Thurman Thomas scores. Generally he just flipped the ball to the ref and headed home with the air of someone who will be back again.
  18. Kyle had a nice series late in the game, but don't make this out to be a great game. Judge your nose tackle on the the opponents running game. We were gashed inside and out all day long. Williams was a part of the 200 plus yards we gave up on the ground against a team not known as a good running team.
  19. Had the Bills defense shown any ability to stop the Pats, the run game would have totaled more yards. To keep pace, the Bills threw more than they would have liked to have to keep pace.
  20. Those were my thoughts during the game as well. Stroud may have been a good DT a few years back, although last year was not a good year for him. This year, at DE, he looks like he's two years past mandatory retirement. Get Carrington on the field. Duan Edwards hasn't played much better either. Another thing, so much for the 3-4 containg the element of surprise with pass rushers. When Kelsay rushes, he's on the line in a three point stance. Maybin down on all four. Duh, who's rushing? Poz was missed. Mitchell-IR (with Davis, etc., playing...) will be missed. He at least could provide a rush when he blitzed.
  21. You must be blind. The ball was catchable only if Nelson was allowed to take a ladder with him on his pass routes.
  22. ....except the ball was way over his head. Now maybe if he was allowed to carry a ladder on his routes...
  23. The Bills did have a slight chance (our D could stop a Pop Warner team today), had Fitz not reverted in the second half to his inaccurate ways. Those two high throws were ball breakers and that unfortunately is not uncommon for Fitz. His accuracy simply isn't consistent enough and when he misses, too often it's way too high....... I like Fitz, if only he was much more consistent with his accuracy.
  24. It could be worse. Chan could announce Edwards will start the remainder of the year.
  25. Pitiful lack of respect. Challenging his football decisions is open game, but stooping to........
