It was extremely painful to watch Johnson play so horribly today.

McGee got banged up pretty good last year and hasn't been able to fully recover this year. Sadly, those calling out his demise may well be right. He's a definite question mark now as to where his career is going. Yet, I remember McGee as a much better than average CB in his prime, who was (in his youth) an electrifying KR. It's always sad to see a players body break down near the end of their careers. While I hope he can eventually shake his knee problems, and have a few more quality years left, this could be the last year we have Terrence McGee.

Whether Gailey likes Wrotto or even Howard, this is nothing more than an indictment on the horrible play of Green. Nothing more, nothing less.

Can We All Agree Not to Throw the Bills Under The Bus....
Spiderweb replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Pittsburgh's defense and a very capable QB, it could be a big loss. my expectations for this game aren't very high, but it could be a measure of where this team stands. They've tasted some success of late and whether they are ready to continue to build on that or not will soon be known. Offensively, Fitz must play at a very high level for the Bills to be able to effectively move the ball. Our O-line will face a much bigger test than they've been given to date. Chan will need to come up with an effective game plan. Our lack of a pas rush and continued problems with stopping the run (albeit the Bills have been better of late) could make for a long afternoon. Again, it will be a big test.... -
He's also made more than a fair number of solid grabs. He's stepped up his after the catch production in a big way of late. Overall, he's shown to be a good solid receiver. While Evans may get the doubles, Johnson has also beaten a fair number of decent CB's and that doesn't appear to be just luck or a "15 minutes of fame" thing either. If the way he's been playing hasn't brought a Bills fan into his camp, or prompted some respect, then......................

Gonzalez is a rare talent. While our TE's are no stars, it's a bit unfair to compare him to our TE's. Gonzalez was often the focus of KC's passing attack. Since Edwards was dumped, it's quite clear, our WR's have become the focus, and the way they've been playing, it's with good reason.

I would tend to agree, but a few decades ago there was a DE named Ben Williams who was a pretty fair DE in his day, and that was when the Bills were pretty thin elsewhere on the line, and when teams game planned the Bills, he was well accounted for. He didn't have a Bruce Smith opposite him. Still, Phil Hansen is one of my all-time favorite players.

I am going to say it....Bills don't need a QB
Spiderweb replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As far as the intangibles, Fitz is well above anyone we've seen since Jim Kelly. Yet, Fitz still has weekly frequent erratic throws. If he had a consistently accurate arm, Fitz may well be all world, but alas...... For now, he's given the Bills some of the best QB'ing they've had in a long time. Bledsoe (pat, pat, pat) had the cannon, but Fitz's is better in the pocket presence and quick release facets of the job. Again, if only he could show consistent accuracy........ -
Trent was clearly of the same "school" that produced Rob Johnson. Simply, only throw the ball down field if the receiver is open by 5 yards or more. Neither of them understood that it's within the rules to make the throw to a spot, even before the receiver has made his break. Fitz may not put toe ball where it needs to go consistently (scatter shot arm), but he's got guts.....

If mis-matches in coverage was all that is to be considered, then Nelson would fit the bill very well. His route running may or may not be where it needs to be, but Nelson has displayed good hands and clearly he has speed for a TE. Other factors delaying his development might be his suspension, Chan's comfort running the spread with the WR's, etc.

Phillips / Childress Fired... Singletary on Last Legs
Spiderweb replied to cage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not simply a "sports" issue. It's far broader sign of the times. He lost his team, a team of very talented players. A few are definitely "aging" players, but Peterson, Rice, etc., aren't. Childress thought he could run his team like Landry, etc., and has found out differently. He didn't need to be the players friend, but he did need to earn their respect, and he failed. That the players didn't like him, coupled with having no respect for him led to their implosion (an ineffective Favre also contributed heavily). The internal squabbles within the Vikings have been brewing for years and all it took was some real adversity to ignite disaster. -
When I saw him enter the game I was surprised as he has been inactive so much, but with Spencer Johnson nicked up last week, it was his turn. Against the run he looked solid and I focused on him a few time and he held his own and made a couple good plays jamming up the Bengal run game. He does appear to have good size and he's no fat guy either.... Hopefully he will get mor reps and continue to develop. We need a young, big, tough DE. Stroud had his moments today yet it's approaching time for him to step down from the starting lineup. Edwards on the other side made some plays but was frequently invisible today. Today was the first game I've been to in years, and very happy with the outcome today (obviously). I over heard a Bengal fan next to me say out loud, "we can't lose to these guys, they're the worst in the league". I couldn't resist. I responded, "Buffalo has now beaten the Bengals for the 10th consecutive time, and don't seel the Bengals short. They're right up there with the worst in the league". A heard a big sigh, and then, "you're right".

Steve Johnson is one TD away...
Spiderweb replied to Coach Klein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just returned home from the game at Paul Brown... Evans is still drawing the coverage (still gets frequent doubles) and did again today. Yet when singled up, I don't see him beating the single coverage as often as Johnson, at least not today. Johnson has been playing great, no doubt (if there was for me, it's gone now), yet he still gets to roam free quite often. He seems to find the holes in zones and when manned up, he's beating the coverage. One thing for sure, he's playing with a lot of confidence and playing very well. -
I'd go to this game (I live outside Louisville, KY) this weekend but my wife's best friend decided to get remarried this weekend and we're off to attend. With the Bengals crashing to earth and the Bills being "who we thought they were", that there's not much interest in the game isn't very surprising.
-
Add to that, the Bills were a team that threw only 15.2 passes a game so defenses knew what was coming. Great O-line paly, and out of this world running by an all time great running back and a unbelievably horrible human being.
-
I too remember the calls for Collins. So stupid were they.

The official the O-Line does not suck anymore thread

I tend to agree with you, but in all fairness, Hangartner doesn't really get a fair shake. H'e serviceable and seems to have improved considerably since he joined the Bills. We've had far fewer bull rushes up the middle, and while much of that credit should go to Wood and Levitre, he has helped. However, he doesn't seem anywhere near strong enough in the run game to me. -
Wood is 3rd ranked run-blocker in NFL

That pretty well sums up Peters....... -
Why can't Fitz be the face of the franchise?

For anyone Watching the MNF game
Spiderweb replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Boomer will always be a favorite of mine. His relationship with Kelly, or any of the other former Bills, must have been a positive experience for him. To those who say he's old hat, or done, piss off. -
This 'anonymous source' makes a good point
Spiderweb replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, we played a 4-3, but we had Sam Adams and Pat Williams at the tackles, with Schobel in his youth and Ryan Denney on the line. Yes Denney was the weak link, yet the defense was strong overall and Denney did chip in with 3.5 sacks. All things being equal, Denney always seemed to do a better job than Kelsay to me, at least in making plays. Yet, the Bills brass saw it differently and maybe justifiably as Denney wasn't a star by any means. -
Return of the Resilient Bills?
Spiderweb replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Better choice of words, I agree. Scrappy.... Resilient almost infers a winner, which we haven't gotten to that point yet. The Bills of 92 & 93, with declining talent, FA loses, injuries, and aging, were "resilient". -
Bengals line must be in shambles
Spiderweb replied to richNjoisy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does clearly seem to smack of that, doesn't it? His signing surely had nothing to do with his talent (none). -
An interesting D formation yesterday
Spiderweb replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kelsay played almost decently for a seasoned vet, but was still a far cry from having played well. That is unless the bar is now so low for everyone, that even a slug like Kelsay can be praised for simply not being an embarrassment. I will only say that he clearly isn't an OLB and if he has any value at all, it's at DE. Personally, his best value? He holds a roster spot (that could be held by someone who can contribute). -
I am off the Fitzpatrick bandwagon
Spiderweb replied to The Wang From Sang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as I wish it wasn't so, "Wang's" line, "This guy reminds me of rookie cop at the firing range that shoots out the water cooler" pretty well nails Fitz's accuracy issues. As for Brohm, let him earn the right to play through practice, etc. Once the baloney competition winner (Edwards) was finally called out for being what is is, and then cut, the Bills immediately went to Fitz. I suspect that was based on far more information than any of us have and is very likely the correct move. Yet, if only Fitz didn't shoot so many water coolers.
