The Top 10 Saddest Songs in the World
The Avenger replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Different song, but same schlock - who in the hell hears this crap and thinks it is a good song? Seriously, I don't know that you could write cheesier tunes - makes me want to barf. -
The Top 10 Saddest Songs in the World
The Avenger replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Holy cow - just heard that song for the first time and I truly believe it has got to be the worst song EVER. It's like they held a contest to see who could write the most cliche sacharin drivel and this one won. I thought Muskrat Love was the worst song, but Christmas Shoes beats it by a mile (worse than dancing swamp rats - that's bad). Back on topic, I find Springsteen's The River very sad - about a guy who never really got a life - so much that might have been - and expressed in very earthy, human terms. -
It's crazy the hold Dunkin' Donuts has the Boston area - crazy. There's one on practically every corner and they're all busy, all the time. In the morning there are traffic tie ups with people turning into/out of DD. You look over and think, "Wow - has the Lord returned to earth to heal the sick at DD?" and then you realize, no, just a bunck of people selling coffee and egg sandwiches, and bagels, and muffins, and crossiants, and french toast sticks (it is a little known fact that DD no longer sells donuts )

I don't usually catch SNL and I'm not a Justin Timberlake fan, but he was REALLY funny - best SNL in a very long time. That music video for "D**k in a Box" was one of the funniest things I have seen this year. The Video

Do any young women cook anymore?
The Avenger replied to Mikie2times's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've never been with a girl who could cook - they always had no clue when it came to the kitchen. I think it's sort of a generational backlash againt the home ec classes girls had to take in school a generation ago - they don't have to take it so they don't. Guys on the other hand, can no longer expect to find a girl who can cook for them, so they've had to learn how to cook. I think lots of guys have also learned that if you can cook it impresses lots of women - nothing like being able to make a really nice meal for an impressive date. Currently I do all the cooking at home as part of the split in household responsibilities. I would rather cook than do dishes (her job) - cooking is a legit hobby, washing dishes isn't. Unfortunately, I now cook AND clean as my wife has picked up additional duties with our twins. -
They Don't Make Them Like They Used To
The Avenger replied to Chef Jim's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Oddly enough, that's also their combined weight... That's the problem I've got - most of these girls today are too damn skinny. I like thin, but healthy thin, not boney. Hard to find anyone whose ribs/shoulderblades don't stick out. On the flip side, some of the girls who aren't too skinny are too buff. I like toned, but I don't want to be with some girl who looks like Arnold and could bench press my car - to me that's also unattractive. What ever happened to femininity? -

Yes, but that was a reult of multiple very good years in a row (or as the folks here in Boston like to call it, "A Dynasty" ). I would pose that the Bills would have to have a similar run to the early 90s to gain enough national support to be an "in" team, something I don't see as likely (not just for Buffalo, but for any team). And on the flip side the Raiders can continue to be terrible and they'll still have their "in" status - winning really isn't everything. -

We are in a very challenging situation right now. This is not a time to play the blame game - we are at war. We did: to find WMDs , to make sure the smoking gun isn't a mushroom cloud, to defeat the terrorists , to bring democracy to the Middle East We never said it would be easy. That Mission Accomplished banner was a mistake - we are still trying to find out who was responsible for its placement. The Iraqi people want America to lead them to freedom Cut and Run!!! We aren't leaving until we attain victory. You are a Defeat Monkey - you want the terrorists to win. Bush is the decider! People just don't appreciate the difficult decisions he has to make on a daily basis - they just can't deal with that level of complexity. [/Republican Talking Points] -

Not sure I completely agree. It seems that some teams just have cache and others don't. Seems like there are Raider fans everywhere, even though they're not that great a team and haven't been a great team for some time. Packers fall into the same boat to some extent. On the other hand, you have teams like the Chargers, Ravens, Bucs and Colts who have been pretty good at times (Ravens and Bucs even won Super Bowls) and they don't seem to have huge nationwide popularity. If you're not one of the popular teams nationwide you can certainly gain some national support by winning, but I don't think you become an "in" team until you win consistently over a pretty long period (example is the Pats - not a popular team but probably one now due to 4 Super Bowls and numerous playoff appearances). For the Bills to be popular nationwide they would have to win multiple Super Bowls within a 5-10 year period - something that's almost impossible to do these days. -
Question of the day:

Never said it was a bad thing, but overall, cheap generic drugs don't makeup for the bad things Wal-Mart brings (loss of manufacturing jobs, forcing anything smaller to go under, the proliferation of cheap quality crap). -

It's not fan enthusiasam - look at who's #1 on the list - the Cleveland Browns. It's been years since the team was good, the winter temp is cold, the metro area is small and still they support their team like nobody's business. This would be the same football-crazy place that had its team yanked from under them and move to Baltimore some years ago. I think Buffalo is much like Cleveland in terms of a smaller metro area, blue collar fans and serious dedication to their long-historied team, so it scares me when the league could let the Browns move - they could easily let that happen in Buffalo regardless of the great fan support the team has had. I think the "fan enthusiasam" factor comes into play when you talk about how many people nationwide follow a given team - the Packers are a great example - they have fans everywhere who are crazy for them - they are popular. Look at the Browns on the other hand - how many Brows fans do you see in Texas? Ever go to Los Angeles and see someone wearing Browns gear? They aren't popular nationwide even though they have great support at home - reminds me of the Bills again. -

Aside for the negative impact on American manufacturing and jobs, I have a couple of other problems with Wal-Mart that weren't really addressed that much in teh Frontline piece: -Impact to smaller businesses - when a Wal-Mart opens up, mom and pop businesses go under in droves - they simply can't compete with a megastore like that. Look at what's happened to pharmacys - there aren't any mom and pop drug stores anymore - you have to get your prescriptions at CVS, Walgreens, etc. God help us if Wal-Mart starts delivering pizzas for $3 - they'll be cheap and crappy but every local pizza joint will go under. -Quality of merchandise - In order to sell widgets at $4.88 Wal-Mart completely bullies their suppliers by setting the price, regardless of the production costs (see Rubbermaid). Manufacturers not only have to produce overseas and pay their workers pennies, but they ofetn time have to settle for lesser quality materials and quality control. I hate $4.88 widgets that break after 1 use - can't I pay $7.99 and get one that will actually last? I hate buying crap that breaks or doesn't last. -
Champagne: Is it safe in luggage?
The Avenger replied to BillsWatch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Can't carry on a bottle of champagne - no liquids of greater volume than 3oz allowed. I agree with the computer - that thing will be broken or stolen sooner or later if you check it. -

Sweet Jesus, I hate Tom Brady and the entire Dallas Cowboy team - may they all die from Ebola by bleeding from their eyes... Brady, the wonderboy everyone says is on par with, if not better than the likes of Montana, puts up a miserable 5 points for me. I'M OK, because I'm up by a whopping 46 points with only Drew Brees to play against. Dallas looks like a bunch of schoolgirls out there (seriously, did they make ANY plays on defense?) and Brees puts up 51 points! I lose my 1st round playoff game and a shot at the loot after finishing 3 games ahead of anyone else over the regular season. I'm so pissed right now I can barely think. -
Got that right - he's coaching circles around Parcells tonight - don't see that too often.

Love the Harp - been a member of the Backers there for a decade. Problem is that it's an hour away from me, and frankly, I get tired of blowing parts of my Sunday driving in and out of the city and paying for parking. For once is it too much to ask that a game featuring 2 division rivals of the Pats actually be broadcast in Boston?
-
The Jets game is staying at 4 - the Miami game the following week was moved back to 1. Doesn't matter if it's the league or the folks in Boston who decide the game - SOMEBODY feels it's more important for the Patriots fans to look past any division rivals and start sizing up th competition for the playoffs. That's some serious smugness or arrogance no matter who makes the call.
-
Just remember - you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you!
-
Just found out that the Boston TV market will NOT be showing the Bills Jets game at 4pm on Sunday even though it has 2 AFC East dvision rivals. Boston is the only market in the entire Northeast that will show Denver vs. San Diego. I guess when you're that smug that you have the division all sewn up you can focus your attention on AFC teams outside of your division as you look to the playoffs. Damn I hate that team - bunch of arrogant . I hope the Pats choke on it and the Jets take the division. These are unbearable - I hope they die painful deaths.

No better shopping in the word IF money is no object. If you actually work for a living the window shopping is great but all you can buy is the stuff from street vendors (scarves, hot dogs, etc.).

bills fan has some great suggestions. While I haven't lived in Manhattan for 6 years, I would tell you that the list of thing you want to see/do may be aggressive in the timeframe you have. Manhattan is often times a very hard place in which to move quickly. Getting from midtown to downtown may be brutally slow in a taxi depending on traffic (NY is just really busy around this time of year). Add to that the fact that you want to see/do what all the other tourists in NY want to do and you have to factor in things like lines and waiting times. If you have to go crosstown (E to W or W to E, there's almost no way to do that quickly). Subway is quickest over long distances and at peak times, but you may lose any time gained of you are wondering around lost or get on the wrong train (it's really not that hard to navigate if you look at the subway map and pay attention). My advice to you is to prioritize what you want to see and be willing to pare back your list if time becomes an issue.

How in God's name did the Dolphins avoid this list? White, orange and teal? Sweet mother of all that is holy - what the hell type of color combination is that? You may not like the Bills uniforms, but red white and blue is a color combo that works. To add to it you have a friggin' dolphin as a logo? Who is intimidated by a dolphin? If you saw a dolphin would your first thought be, "wow - gotta make tracks or I'm gonna be in a world of pain unless I'm killed"? And the dolphin is wearing a helmet (one that would limit its ability to breathe as the blowhole is on the top of the head) - how gay is that?

The only reason the shark looked so good on that play was because the seal was held- that's gonna draw a flag and come back - it was blatent.

Is it just me, or do the results of this poll seem to be based entirely on how many fantasy football points these guys put up for fantasy teams across America?
