Just looking for some quick advice
The Avenger replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Wow - 24 replies before we got to this obligatory response - this place is slipping.... -
Yeah - good things happen when the Bills move up to get another first day pick

Mort just said a few interesting things

Nothing if you think he's worth $6M of our cap space and feel he should be the third highest paid player on the team... I'm not saying the guy's a bad OT, just that he's an example of a guy we overpaid for in FA. He's not as glaring an example as the others because he's actually a decent player, but it doesn't change the fact that he's not a $6M guy in my book... -
I'm with you, Mark - loved Magnolia and enjoyed TC's performance - really fine acting in a different kind of role for him, IMHO.

I saw a Bugatti 57SC a few years back when Ralph Loren's collection was on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston - cars so rare and beautiful they were indeed art. I'm not much of a car guy, but those cars were truly breathtaking - so glad I got to see them.

The Daily Show - Jon Stewart and hs writers have some of the best lines and commentary ever - if you're a news freak it's a scream (unless you get your "news" from Fox).

Awesome - more money to go spend on guys like Walker, Dockery and Kelsay - woo hoo! Seriously, does it matter how much cap money you have to spend if you throw it at the wrong people? -
Age and Outlook on the Bills
The Avenger replied to The Avenger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good call - I'm seeing that trend as well. I had seen part of it with all the e-mail I got this week, which is why I asked the question in the first place, but it's interesting to see the responses here... -
No way do the Bills step in and spend the type of money a Suggs or a Peppers will command. When was the last time the Bills outbid everyone to secure the services of the best FA available at his position? Remember too that Suggs or Peppers want to play for a contender and the Bills aren't, so their offer would have to be substantially better than what a NE or a NYG would pay. In the end the Bills brain trust (the huge amount of top talent evaluators in the inner circle) will pay a guy they think has good promise huge money to be medicore (just like Walker and Dockery).
-
But do you have any confidence that if they decided they needed 2 DEs in the offseasn that isn't EXACTLY what they would do - completely overpay for average players? Good Lord - another 2 Chris Kelsays would kill us....
-
Gee, I sure hope they can lure guys of the caliber of Dockery and Walker if they throw enough money around....

More like the 2 word review for "Shark Sandwich"...

Age and Outlook on the Bills
The Avenger replied to The Avenger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, now that the posting snafu was been addressed, I'll answer my own question. I've been a fan for almost 30 years. I am very fatigued. I am not optimistic that the Bills are on the right track and ready to take the next step. I am incredibly tired of hearing that we are a year or two way. I am also tired of seeing all our division make substantial changes that allow them to get better while we stay in place. It's enough to make me feel that I need to turn down my fandom a few notches for reasons of self preservation. I'll still root for the Bills and follow them, I just can't live and die by them - all the dying in killing me! -

Sorry - post got submitted before it ws done - full post is on the board with the same title (mods - please delete this one) -
One thing I've seen here and in talking with fellow fans is the utter dismay at the direction of the team. It seems that the longer you've been a Bills fan, the more hurt you are by the 2008 season and the decision to keep Jauron. The newer fans seem more optimistic - keep supporting the Bills and eventually they'll get better. Is there a fatigue factor in how you think? I'm curious to find out. Tell me: How long have you been a Bills fan? (Be honest - if you're 30 you haven't been a Bills fan for 30 years - when did you really become a fan?) What's your out look on the Bills now? Done with being a fan? Optimistic that with a few small tweaks we'll win the division on the next couple of years? Where are you on the spectrum?

Best TV Show never to make it past Season 1
The Avenger replied to RayFinkle's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I loved Hidden Hills from 2002 - really funny view of suburban married life with some great visuals.... -
The Buffalo Bills - A season away from greatness for 9 years and counting... The Buffalo Bills - In case you forgot, Buffalo DOES have a team The Buffalo Bills - Please don't hurt us The Buffalo Bills - Can't we play indoors like at practice? The Buffalo Bills - If you're in the lucky seat we draw YOU become the next coach! The Buffalo Bills - This is what happens when a marketing guy is GM The Buffalo Bills - Our owner does't dodder! He putters around!
-
Exactly. The term means that you support the team in good times - anyone old enough to remember any good times with this team?

Now that Ralph confirmed the retention of Jauron
The Avenger replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What can Jauron do to be successful next season? Coach Pop Warner? Slip Into a coma? Die? I'm sure he's a good guy and my suggestions are out of line, but I'm just so damned pissed I can't believe it... -
As this morning's NFL firings roll in (Mangini in NY, Marinelli in Detroit, Crennel in Cleveland) I am at a loss to explain why nobody is talking about Dick Jauron being on his way out. Most reports say he may stay or he may go - looks like a 50-50 bet as to what happens. How in the world does a coach who lost 8 of his last 10 games, went 0-6 in the division, has never beaten New England, has never had even a .500 season in Buffalo and lost multiple games with demonstrably bad coaching decisions (horrific and head scratching play calls, abominable clock management) still have a 50-50 shot at keeping his job? I can't think of any other organization where Jauron's fate would be debatable, extension or not. The fact that so many other organizations are willing to make quick and forceful decisions in the face of unaccptable coaching is really in sharp contrast to the Bills. The silence coming from the Bills front office speaks volumes in this situation. Do they truly find Jauron's performance acceptable? Are they too meek to do what needs to be done? Is the bar set so low that Jauron's performance is even up for debate? As a Bills fan the it's the lack of action and the apparent willingness to settle for medicore (at best) performance that really has me hopping mad and pondering when, if ever, this organization will see anything better than what they've produced over the past decade. The silence makes me want to scream...

The "Official" Bills Gameday thread!!
The Avenger replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is Kay Stephenson still alive? -
Excellent list. The only thing I'd add is that he completely abandoned the play action pass for a couple of games while we were in a slump, even though it's been pretty effective - I couldn't believe he never ran any durring that terrible stretch.

Lottery Tickets Put In Christmas Cards.
The Avenger replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Here's the key - don't give a ticket to anyone who you feel wouldn't share some of it if it was a big winner. The only folks I ever give lottery tickets as gifts are my in-laws, and I know if they hit it big they would do something nice for me or the kids. I don't give them tickets because I feel they would share the wealth, I give them tickets because they are good people. If you give a ticket to someone who is a selfish person to begin with then you have to realize he'd probably not share anything with you if he got a winner - not the type of person I'd want to give a ticket to anyway... -
An extra special Merry Christmas to the folks who are on the job today for the good of us all - soldiers, police, firemen, doctors, nurses, etc. - they don't get a break today but they certainy deserve it!
