Is anyone better than Irv Weinstein? That guy was the best anchor ever..."Topping Eyewitnes News tonight, pistol-packing punks busted on the West Side" So sad to see him go....
-
And yet we'll still be in the game, probably even leading, until the final 30 seconds where we somehow manage to give up 28 points and lose by 1....

Lee Evans is ranked at #56 amongst WR's
The Avenger replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's about how he finished up in my fantasy rankings as well - guy rarely cracked my starting roster unless someone was hurt or I had bye week problems.... Oh, wait, we aren't talking about fantasy football???? -

Airlines begin charging for CARRY ONS
The Avenger replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yep. Way too many minimumally-paid people have way too much access to your unlocked bags in way too many places where nobody else is around. Add to that that nobody who is responsible for these folks feels any sort of obligation to make sure things don't get stolen and it's no suprise that they find people bringing bags full of stolen stuff home every day. I wonder how fast things would change if the airlines got fined $10K each time something was stolen - my guess is that you'd have that cleaned up pretty quick. Not sure what you do about the TSA, though, short of putting cameras in place...... -
Exactly my thought. I LOVED the episode last night as I've resisted the Facebook thing for ages and everyone always bugs me about it. I had to laugh this morning when I got an e-mail from a relative telling me that she had posted pictures on FB and that I needed to sign up so I could go look at them. LOVED the whole Tron reference as I was a techie in the 80s who enjoyed that movie (remake/sequel to Tron in December!) - hillarious how they replaced the disc battles with Yhatzee!

Airlines begin charging for CARRY ONS
The Avenger replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It's not that it's breakable, it's that it's valuable and easy to take. Try putting your camera, laptop, iPod, phone or any other small electronic device in your checked luggage and let us know how that works out - I can almost guarantee that it will be at a pawn shop or in the hands of a fence before you even fill out the paperwork asking for the $100 from the airline. I don't mean to rip on all baggage handlers - I'm sure that there are plenty of guys who do honest work for honest pay. I think there are enough bad apples and lack of oversight that your chances are still pretty good that your stuff gets jacked. Pre 9/11 you could lock your bags (although that's didn't prevent theft - just made it easier to show there was a theft) but with new TSA regulations you can't do that anymore, so it's open season on anything you check. -
Airlines begin charging for CARRY ONS
The Avenger replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in Off the Wall Archives
You know what would really help cut down on the amount of stuff people bring as carry ons? How about making sure nobody steals your stuff? How about making sure I get my bag? Half the crap I lug onto the plane when I travel is not because I feel like I need it for the flight, but because I know anything I pack in my bag is likely to be taken by any of the people who have access to my bag when I'm not around and feel like they can take whatever they want. Or my bag gets mishandled and ends up in Timbuktu and I'm stuck without the things I need when I arrive. If your stuff gets lost or stolen the airlines absolve themselves of any responsibility and break out some arcane legal document showing that even though you lost $1200 of stuff they're only liable for $100 IF and only IF you fill out the required paperwork and wait 8 months. There's absolutely no incentive for the airlines to make sure they aren't hiring outright thieves or to do a better job making sure my bag and I go to the same place at the same time. If I had any confidence that my stuff would actually arrive intact I might check a bag. But instead I get charged $50 for the privilege of making my things available to sticky-fingered employees that evidently have no oversight from their employers and I get to spin the lucky wheel O' "where the hell is my bag?" No thanks..... -
How is it that nobody has yet posted the story about the Bills having their sites set on that perennial small school wonder Olof Pilar? Seems like every year sombody has inside info that the Bills love this kid nobody knows much about, and every year all 32 teams pass on him in the draft.....kid's somehow in his 28th season at some small D2 scool nobody's ever heard of.... I'm disappointed I don't see his name here this morning - I think this place is slipping....

McNabb does not hold all the cards. If the Eagles want to play hardball with him they'll make it clear that if he refuses to go he'll be riding the bench and not playing - his FA stock goes down. If there's a lockout in 2011, now he's got another year off. So he's a FA in 2012, not having started a game in 2 years and he's going to turn 36 - I'm not so sure he's still a highly sought FA QB at that point. There's a lot of ifs - certainly no guarantee that the Eagles would do that do him, nor is it clear whether there is football in 2012, but my point is that there is no safe guarantee for McNabb to stay in Philly and then cash in when he does become a FA after this season. Not many guys want to be off the field, and my guess is that if there's a real possibility of not playing then McNabb's options may change....
-
Exactly. I'm sure McNabb prefers to stay and be the starter for a contender like Philly - not sure he has that choice. If Reid tells him he's no longer the starter his choices become riding the bench for a contender or being a starter in a place like Buffalo or Oakland - I wonder what his choice is then?

I forgot to mention that I've had a few friends who had failed to anticipate and answer the questions, got part way into the job and realized that they were screwed and either had to start over or pay someone else to do it - that's why I listed them. Amazing some of the things people don't even think about until they're in the thick of it.
-
It's all about the planning - make sure you plan out what you are going to do BEFORE you actually start doing it! - Where are you going to place the antenna? - How are you going to get the antenna into the car from outside? - How far do you need to go from the entry point to your radio? - How will you hide the wire - what's involved? - How will you hook it up to your radio - do you have to take anything apart to do that, and if so, do you know how to do that? - Do you have the tools you need to do the install? If you plan it out and answer the above questions you should have a good idea about whether it's worth the $79 to you or not.... I did mine and it wasn't too bad, but I planned it out and knew what I was getting myself into BEFORE I started.......

McNabb to the Bills for Picks?
The Avenger replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it makes sense if the price is right. With the price seemingly falling and the Bills saying they want to settle the QB situation before the draft I think it's a distict possibility we see something happen. Settling the QB situation before the draft tells me that they're not going to name a starter from the guys already on the roster (why would you not have a competition in camp if nobody is substantially better than the others?), nor do they intend to draft a rookie and play him his rookie season (how does drafting and lanning on playing a new kid settle your QB situation? It doesn't). We have NOBODY on our roster who is a starting caliber QB. If we draft a QB to groom (as we should, doesn't have to be first round), he needs some time to develop - with the junk we have on the roster there will be all sorts of pressure to get the rookie to play and nobody to mentor him UNLESS you get vet for the short term who is halfway decent. Now if we had all the other pieces in place we could draft a first round QB and let him see some playing time this year, but that's not where we are. You'll ruin a rookie by throwing him in for his rookie season and not giving him a line or receivers to help him out - he'll have PTSD by the bye week.... -

Predict Bills Record Next Season
The Avenger replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With 23 votes so far, almost 50% (11 votes) say we are a .500 or better team? I guess this is why this medicore team sells out season after season and things never get any better - do we get what we deserve? -
I generally like a strong, earthy coffee and I like Peets quite a bit (especially when you get a cup from a Peets store), but for an average, medium bodied cup of joe I love Dunkin Donuts (from a DD or whole bean at home) - I think they put crack in that stuff - I could drink it all day (and people in this area outside of Boston do)......

The Marketing Genius of the Buffalo Bills
The Avenger replied to McClane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly think this is the year it doesn't happen. People are pretty tired of watching this team strive for mediocrity for a decade and I don't see how they can sell us on there being a light at the end of the tunnel this year. I'm also not seeing another T.O./Bledsoe signing that will put butts in seats on name alone. Add to that that times are pretty tough economically and I think this is the year where a bunch of games don't sell out. Unless the Bills start out red hot like they did in 2008, there's nothing to fill the house this year. -
The Marketing Genius of the Buffalo Bills

The timing and content of the Bills marketing materials boggles the mind. Whenever I get one my first question is usually, "Do these people live in a world where they don't actually get to SEE the Bills play?" My favorite was in December 2008, fresh off another ugly loss to Miami, a 16-3 defeat in Toronto (hard to say it was one of the ugliest because there have been so many ugly losses recently). I get an e-mail from the Bills Pro Shop that tell me to "Show Your Team Spirit!" My thought was that either the e-mail was a joke or they were announcing some sort of new Dick Jauron voodoo doll going on sale... Team spirit - I got your team spirit right here....... -
Listening to an iPod can kill you
The Avenger replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's only a few notches up from "getting hit in the head by a meteorite from space" - seriously, what are the odds? If the plane's engine doesn't die and go silent, this doesn't happen. If there's no oil on the windshield this doesn't happen. If the guy isn't wearing his iPod it doesn't happen. If they guy's pace is a bit faster or slower it doesn't happen. Everything had to fall in place just right. What a tragedy - guy had a family and was probably a good guy - condolences to his family - that's just awful. -
Fixed.

UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos
The Avenger replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Has trading back into the first round or moving up in the second round ever worked for the Bills? Every time they do that it's a complete disaster - witness JP Losman and John McCargo - even if they hadn't traded up those would have been bad pick and they eneded up costing us more than our our original pick - yikes! I like Poz but I'm not convinced trading up for him was a great move, but even if you agree with that move the Bills are only 1 for 3...... -
