Anybody know a good hotel walking distance to PNC Park?
The Avenger replied to bbb's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've stayed at the Hilton and walked to the park - it's not that far - fairly compact area as I recall. Edit: Looks like the Hilton is now the Wyndham Grand Pitttsburgh - it's been a few years since I was there. -
How pathetic was that? They should have just put up a crawl at the bottom that scrolled "for ratings purposes we are showing T&A that have absolutely nothing to do with this show". Somehow I don't think they ever filmed Alex or Hugh taking in the hot springs......

At the end of last night's episode I stood there like Cartman and uettered his famous line, "Lame"..... What the heck was that? That was just downright depressing. Where is the edge that show has kept all these years? What's the message? As someone who has faithfully watched this show from day 1 and seen every episode, I was pretty disappointed......

Still looking for a 90's era Hand Warmer!! HELP!
The Avenger replied to Townshend2372's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Have you tried doing a Google search for "muff"? In all seriousness, that's a tall order - I can't imagine too many are floating around - did they even make any that weren't game used (i.e. - something fans could buy at one point?) -
Could Plax be the final piece to our puzzle???
The Avenger replied to Buffalo Beeeews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone ever stop to think that Plax may have some decent interest from multiple teams once the labor issue gets settled and perhaps Buffalo wouldn't be at the top of his list even if the Bills desperately wanted him? Seriously, when was the last time the Bills were able to bring in a free agent who had decent interest from other teams? I love the Bills, but face it - Buffalo has shown very little over the past decade and isn't exactly as sexy as a lot of other NFL locales. We can get mid-tier guys if we overpay for them, but any big names like TO or Merriman end up here because they've had no other options. Even if the Bills really wanted Plax I'd think there would be almost no way he'd come here. -
I've recently seen a few episodes of Whale Wars and I was struck at how ineffectual they were. Sure they try and do all sorts of things, but from what I saw none of what they did ever worked - the Japanese went right on shooting, transferring and processing whales. In one episode they wanted to try and prevent the transfer of a whale from one ship to the processing ship and had to stay really close but had to completely slow down to allow their helicopter to land, refuel and take off again. By the time they got their act together the transfer had happened and I was left thinking that their tacticians were terrible at what they were doing - the key moment arrives and now you have to deal with your helicopter? If that's the best you've got its time to go home.

I'm getting screwed by National Grid
The Avenger replied to Huuuge Bills's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Your state attorney general's office may also be a good resource - often times they have some sort of consumer protection department that can help. There's also the public utilities commission as National Grid is a utility. -
I was just reading that Stephen Hawking is the word's top authority on Jasperian physics which explains all things in the universe - he's only scratching the surface of of field but he's light years ahead of understanding what others understand - eventually all will be revealed.

I just got home a few days ago from having my knee replacement and once again I have to give props to those in the nursing field - the care I got was AMAZING! When you're in the hospital as a patient you're usually not at your best - a minimum you don't want to be there and you could also have mental and physical pain - probably not the type of person nobody wants to be around. To see the nurses come in day after day, do the mundane and frankly unplesant things many people wouldn't do (change dressings, poke/prod you in the middle of the night, etc.), do it with great cheer AND also try and make you life even one bit cheerier is something not everybody can do. I have always been impressed with the nursing care I and my family members have received and the past few days have been no exception. It's obvious that the folks who choose nuring as a career do it because they really want to do that job, and it shows - kudos to the folks who do it because they do a great job!

What happens if none of the top 4 players fall to us?
The Avenger replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the solution is pretty easy - we trade out of 3 and move to 10, picking up Washington's 2012 first round pick. Then, realizing Mark Ingram is still on the board we trade 2011 #10, 2011 #34 and the better of our 2012 first round picks to Washington to move up to #3 - it's a can't miss strategy! -
What's the best Pizza place in the city?
The Avenger replied to Bill Cowher's topic in Off the Wall Archives
They do have a half baked and I've done that, but the assumption is that you'll ake the entire pie in the oven when you're ready for it - I don't usually do that. I buy fully baked pizza, take it home and individually wrap each slice in that freezer cling wrap and then put it into freezer bags. Then I can ration out my "gold" little by little and make it last as long as possible. The half baked option doesn't cost any more than the normal. If you have a pie sent via FedEx (which I've also done - good but very pricy) they'll ship it half baked. -
What's the best Pizza place in the city?
The Avenger replied to Bill Cowher's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Bocce is the best - have it and you'll never go back. Every time I come to WNY for a game I make a point of buying 5 pizzas and bringing them back with me to freeze (even frozen and reheated it is light years better than just about anything else). -
If he turns out to be a franchise quarterback then it's a great move. If he turns out to be J.P. Losman then it's a terrible move. Where a player is taken shouldn't necessarily be dictated by where other people think he should go - it's what you think he's going to do for you with some lesser considerations about how much you want to pay him and where else you could get him (i.e. - what are the chances he's there at your next pick). Think about if Tom Brady was taken in the first round - the Patriots would have looked like idiots taking him so early and having to pay him huge money but you know what, it would have ultimately been a good move and had we known what he would do everyone would have drafted him in the first round as well.

Whats your dream 1st round
The Avenger replied to karl malones other son's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My dream first round involves the top 10 teams all trading us their picks for future 7th round picks, and other teams trading established Pro Bowl players for our future 6th round picks. It also has Bill Belicheck dying from the ebola virus and having the Patriots sign Dick Jauron as their new head coach. Then they announce that beer at the stadium will be free. What can I say - I dream big. -
I wonder how they're going to do the uniform unveiling if the lockout is still going on - they won't have any players to model them. I really, really, really don't want to see Chan, Buddy and Tom Modrak all suited up in pads and new threads - it'll look like a reunion of the 2000 Buffalo Bills in 2050:sick:

Poll on whether Fitz is the right guy or not
The Avenger replied to The Cincinnati Kid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lest we forget, this team has a serious dearth of talent at a whole host of positions. To even say the word championship with this group is absurd. We would need to make major changes up and down the lineup in order to be a true championsip contender. IF we make some good moves in drafting, IF we develop young guys and IF we get some solid free agents I think we can turn this ship around, but it'll happen in baby steps - not finishing last in the division, going over .500, having double-digit wins, making the playoffs, then becoming a contender. By the time this happens Fitz will be out of football, and that's only IF the Bills suddenly starting making better evaluations of talent (the reason we've been in this decade of failin the first place). If we keep picking Aaron Maybins and John Mccargos and throwing money at Chris Kelsays we'll never get get out of this whole and it won't really matter who is under center for the Bills. -
Things I learned from watching movies
The Avenger replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
All high school students are 25. They dress in very fashionable clothing and drive very nice new cars. They are extremely attractive and have absolutely no acne. Even the girls considered average are about an 8. When they go home their parents are hot, probably because they are in their early 30s. In the movies hot chicks have hot moms only 6 years older than them. -

Children are always infinitely smarter than their parents and are allowed to say and do what they please. Because they are so smart they are allowed to forgo any level of respect normally afforded to one's parents. -
After years of having bad knees (they started to go south on my in high school) and over a year of fairly constant ostearthritis knee pain the time has come for knee replacement surgery (round 1 - I need both done and after I get through the first I'll have to start think about the other). Anybody here ever had their knee replaced? I'm trying to figure out what to expect. It's hard because I'm at least 20 years younger than most people who have this surgery (I'm only 41). It's hard to understand what things are going to be like when my surgical peer group is in their 60s and 70s. Anyway, regardless of your age - if you've had a knee replacement I'd love to hear any advice you can give me and tell me about your experience with the procedure and the rehab. I know it's not going to be too fun but from what I've heard I'll be really glad I did this when all is said and done (you have no idea how happy I'll be if I can spend most of the day on my feet without pain and sleep through the night without knee pain waking me up).

No, the Pats* will never trade up that high. More likely would be the Bills trading away draft picks to get back into the first round - the Bills will pick a bust (seriously - what's when was the last time we were successful with a guy we traded up to get as an additional 1st round pick?) and the Pats* will turn our picks into gold.........

Charlie Sheen ladies and gentlemen, Charlie Sheen
The Avenger replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Unfortunately he's already got your money if you shelled out the cash to buy a ticket. You get what you deserve doing something like that, but I still hat to see Charlie Sheen make money from hard working people just for being his trainwreck self.... My guess is the tour has about as much chance of completing all its announced dates as the last Guns N Roses go 'round - you may be able to sell tickets and do the first few dates but ultimatley a trainwreck involves derailment..... -
101 Pringle Flavors from Around the World
The Avenger replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Because instead of eating hamburger flavored Kit Kat bars we eat hamburgers, preferably the greasy fast food kind with loads od processed cheese, bacon and "special sauce".... The hamburger flavored Kit Kat in Japan blew my mind - not only does that sound like some sort of sick fraternity prank, the reasoning behind it was great - special "patriotic edition" for the 4th of July - since when was the 4th of July a holiday anywhere else than the good 'ole USA? Does this mean we can start celebrating the Japanese emporor's birthday and take the day off from work? -

Fan Sues Browns & NFL (PSL holder)
The Avenger replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point the guy has absolutely no case - no games have yet been cancelled so he can't prove any injury as the basis for damages. By the time one would reasonably expect that games would have to be provided this issue could be resolved. I'd think that if suits like this ever got any sort of traction the league would field some sort of professional football games - they're not obligated to necessarily field great teams, just to provide professional football for fans with PSLs..... -
Agreed - this show is one of my favorites - I look forward to watching it every week. Few things are worse than getting burning sugar on your skin - it's like napalm - just burns and you cannot get it off - just sticks and keeps on burning. Ever grab a Pop Tart out of the toaster and get one of those sugar springles on your finger - it burns down to the bone before you can get it off!
