Any stores you miss that aren't around anymore?
The Avenger replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm not a big fan of Radio Shack - most of their stuff was't great quality and was pretty expensive, but without it there is almost no place you can go to get a part/wire/adapter the same day you need it - you can find what you need on the Internet, but it's going to be days before you get it unless you pay big money for express shipping. The ability to run out and grab what you need immediately is what makes the place a loss to me. Brand Names was also pretty cool- it was like Internet shopping before the Internet - look at the catalog, fill out a form and boom - here's your stuff - totally a manual version of Amazon.... -
Yep - that's me - haven't been on the board much so I missed this but PM me if you need anything!

Bills 2017 Markting Slogan Fan Suggestions
The Avenger replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The 2017 Buffalo Bills : Welp -
I had terrible osteoarthritis in my knees at an early age - they just wore out. When the pain became too much and I went to see an orthopedist he put my x-rays up and just said "wow" (not in a good way) - said I had the knees of someone in their 80s and I was only 40. We tried a number of different things - visco-supplementation, physical therapy - in the end my knees were too far gone to get benefit from those therapies so I had my right knee replaced when I was 41 and my left when I was 42. The bone on bone pain I had is gone and while I didn't run the Boston Marathon this morning, I will be spending the next week walking around Disney with the family - something I could never have done before the replacements. For my the choice was suck it up on have the replacements and I couldn't live the life I wanted. The thing to know about knee replacements is that you won't really get better than you were before. You get less pain, but your range of motion isn't going to get better than it was. If you are starting to lose range of motion you need to do something because once that goes it doesn't really come back. Good luck, whatever your future path holds....

The Chappelle stuff was fantastic but he was also really good as Vic on Black Jesus - great show (Darby!)

I like your choices as well - Hatebreed defines its own genre in metal - rage metal - just about all of their songs make you want to rage against something/someone and tear it/them to pieces - Malevolent Creation - crushing...just crushing... - Bloodbath - more crushing, although I'm not big into death/gore very much - although watching this dude hyperventilate playing Hammer Smashed face on the clarinet KILLS me - when I need a good laugh I watch this (kid in the background on the laptop as this kid is dying is classic):

Yeah - I know what you mean - I can look back at some stuff I didn't get into much back then but really love now and wonder how I could have such a hole in my knowledge - Down was like that for me - never listened to them much and now I play their old stuff all the time and wonder why I wasn't into them back then.

Actress Debbie Reynolds, mother of Carrie Fisher, dies
The Avenger replied to YoloinOhio's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Very sad. I saw Rogue One tonight and it was very emotional to see the quick scene with a young and vibrant Carrie Fisher, even if it was CGI. RIP, ladies. -
Bizarre music videos from the MTV era
The Avenger replied to Fixxxer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Love that video. I remember the first time I saw it - flipped on the TV at like 5am and it was on and I was like - WTF? Was actually able to find a copy on early DVD, before the days of just being able to watch things on YouTube.... -

So he can wear it and try to pass himself off as a top 5 corner when it comes to negotiate a contract...duh! -
Best/Worst Concerts You've Ever Seen
The Avenger replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in Off the Wall Archives
So many shows it's hard to think back. Best: - Iron Maiden Powerslave Tour - Maple Leaf Garden (1984?) - Maiden always had a huge stage show - they had a giant Eddie in the background with laser eyes, all sorts of Egyptian stuff to cover the amps, a 10' tall Eddie who came out onto the stage - Maiden always puts on a show - Dio - Sacred Heart - Buffalo Aud (85?) - Like Maiden, a show was a whole show, not just music. Stage was a giant dragon with Vinny's drum kit on its back. Had wings, laser eyes, breathed fire. RJD came down and battled it with a laser sword during Sacred Heart. Show opened with him appearing in a giant crystal ball and breaking out of it - lot of fun. - Pantera/Suicidal Tendencies - Saratoga Winners Club (90?) - Small place and Pantera was awesome. When ST came out the lights went down and the opened with Can't Bring Me Down. Mike says "What the Hell is Going On Around Here"?, the lights come up and chaos erupts. I get hit hard in the pit, look over and realize it is Phil Anselmo, mixing it up with the crowd after playing their set - dude is solid. Testament/Nuclear Assault - Toronto (91?) - Played in some old theater with the seats removed so floor was GA. Guy jumped over the rail of the balcony onto the amp stack while Nuclear Assault was playing -= everyone, including the band, watched as he did a Superfly Snooka into the crowd below. When people saw he was OK people started jumping from the balcony down to the crowd below - utter insanity but quite the experience. Metallica - Tokyo, Japan (94?) - last night or world tour. I was in Tokyo on business and had to see the show. Strange seeing the band with a non English-speaking crowd - I was the only person singing along until the da-da-da part of The Memory Remains - then it was a thunderous crowd singing along! Afterwards people politely filed out and within 30 minutes you would never have know Metallica had played - no fires, no fights - weird... Worst: Soundgarden - NYC - Night of the OJ slow speed chase. Band played in an armory on the East Side. Place was about 120 degrees inside and had the worst acoustics I have ever heard - sound literally got sucked into the ceiling and you couldn't hear anything. Band was playing but you could barely tell what song - just awful. Not the band's fault - I love Soundgarden, but that was just garbage.... -
As Bills fans we could use some of those memberberries - member when Kelly was our quarterback? Member when Thurman was unstoppable? Member when we went to the Super Bowl every year?

I know JetBlue used to have Sunday Ticket (there was a thread here about it several years ago), but does anyone know if they still have it on flights today in 2016? Need to make some travel plans this fall and this could help me with scheduling.

Bills NFL Network Preseason Re-Broadcast Dates/Times
The Avenger replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hard to believe the Washington game will be played on Friday evening but they couldn't find a spot to rebroadcast it until Monday afternoon. I understand about not getting it live, but I usually tape it at the odd overnight or early morning time and get to watch it later in the weekend - don't understand why they have to wait so long to rebroadcast it. -
So sick of these bone headed mistakes by guys who just don't get it. It's bad enough the Bills are snake-bit by injuries every year and the front office gambled and lost on a guy with a bum shoulder, but we don't need fools taking themselves out on top of it. Look - it's not that hard - the bar is set very low - don't do illegal stuff. You don't have to be a Walter Payton candidate or visit sick kids in the hospital - be a major a-hole if you must - just don't do anything illegal.

Rodney King was no saint and no genius, but he had it exactly right when he emotionally asked "can't we all get along?" Sad that after so much time and after so much strife those words are still relevant today and we seem to have gotten farther and farther away from this simple plea... I was not alive in 1968, but by all historical accounts it was a time of great strife and turbulence in a deeply divided and socially changing America. I feel like we are back at that point - where many of us, regardless of our political beliefs, feel that things are getting too divided, too heated and too crazy - I hope that we can get through this next phase of history and get away from the "us vs. them" that seems so prevalent and causes so much pain...

RIP to coaching legend Pat Summit
The Avenger replied to YoloinOhio's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm a big women's hoops fan and even though I'm a UCONN fan I will forever admire and respect Pat Summitt. It's amazing what she did. When she started out there were no big time women's athletics - it didn't exist. Pat built the first and TN grew into a dynasty. Other programs - UCONN, Stanford, Notre Dame, LA Tech, etc. followed, but none of it ever would have happened without Pat Summitt, and it's gone even further than basketball. If you look at women's athletics before and after Pat Summit you can appreciate the incredible impact she had on sports as a whole - unbelievable. Pat Summitt was a true competitor and all class - all of her players graduated which means she not only coached them to be great ball players, she also made sure they were prepared for life. RIP Pat. -
Well, there are the obvious soul crushers: - Wide Right - I honestly didn't speak for several days afterwards - Homerun Throwback - one minute I was jumping up and hugging random strangers in a bar, the next I sat stunned as grown men and women filtered out onto the streets crying After that there are a whole category of games where the Bills had to try, and try hard, to lose: - Dallas MNF - Opener against the Jags - last second TD setup when DB went for the INT instead of the knock down - Opener against the Jets - Late kickoff return - Opener against the Broncos - seriously, how do they allow that to happen when Denver has no timeouts? - Game against Pittsburgh's scrubs - win and we get back to the playoffs but absolutely nobody came to play that day and the Bills were abused, at home - McKelvin fumble against NE

Just realized DTV stung me on that one - 2 DVRs recorded some stupid exercise informercial for 20 minutes - WTF? Luckily I can watch it online, and after I sign in I'm not even getting commercials. Computer chair isn't as comfy as the couch with the big TV, but at least I won't miss the finale.

I love The Americans (must be a metal thing).... I was wondering the same thing about Don and I'm not sure that they've really played up why he's important. I think he may work in the lab with all the nasty virus stuff and they need him so the other guy can get the level 4 access to the really nasty stuff. It certainly has been a slow developing story line and they haven't been very good about explaining why they are targeting this woman and her husband. They were looking to find dirt on Don, but couldn't find anything to blackmail him with (only found a porno tape) - that's why they had to setup the encounter. Great trick with the lotion while Don was passed out - nice touch, huh? As for the high school girl, I think Phillip got some good stuff by planting the recorder in her father's briefcase, but that was kind of the end of the storyline (and let's face it, they were getting pretty close to showing Phillip seducing an underage girl - that's a little too messed up to show on TV).

I read something completely different about what American Pharoah was up to, and it wasn't nearly as nice - I hope this report is just tabloid garbage: https://medium.com/sportspickle/stablemates-concerned-after-american-pharoah-spends-another-weekend-partying-with-johnny-manziel-2f0d56dc5b7d#.s939y86gt
