I dont think any reasonable Bills fan is expecting a midstream turnaround by an interim OC. I expect the offense to look similar to what we've seen. But I do expect/want to see our execution and engagement to improve. Do the guys look focused? Do they look like they're having fun? Or at least look like they want to be there? The rest is all fluff to get us through the rest of this season so we can re-tool in the offseason.

They reined him in exactly like they wanted to. It's made him worse. It's like trying to keep a Great White shark in captivity. It's never worked.
-
Agreed 100% The legend of Josh hiring Dorsey is right up there with the legend of Josh knocking up a bartender in things that never happened. Did they consult their $250M man to make sure he was onboard and bought in at the time? Absolutely. Did he have the power to strongly influence the hiring decisions? Probably not.

Special Teams was the 1st to get scapegoated after 13 seconds. The current group will be gone soon enough, once McD is canned after the season.
-
When its, as you point out, the entire team not executing - that is on coaching.
-
Allen is a problem right now. Yes. But because he is being mismanaged, being asked to play in a style that doesnt fit him, and is asked to execute plays that the Defense knows are coming. That can all be fixed with a coaching change, not a QB change.
-
We'll have the same problem with having good OCs since they are the first to get hired to HC spots. Which is exactly what happened to Dabol.
-
I'd argue McD makes it even more attractive since he is on the hot seat and the next logical step would be promoting a successful OC to HC.
-
He chose McDermott on his first "real" try. The good news is, unlike Hockey, Pegula knows he is in over his head with Football/NFL and wont be doing the search himself. He hired consultants to identify candidates and used that service, and some advice from Whaley, to choose McD. I'm confident that same service and Beane can find someone.
-
The GM has no say in HC/Coaching decisions. The HC reports directly to Terry. The GM reports directly to Terry. It was the same for Whaley and Rex. This is how Pegula structures his operation. (Personally not a fan)
-
Ha, fair enough. I was focused on the originally bolded parts of "and he kept hammering those same calls every game! He was incapable of self-evaluating and saying "well this play hasn't worked for the guys on the field""
-
There was a lot wrong with the mental makeup of the team. You did not sense that "Josh's fiance found out about him knocking up a waitress". You sensed that the team was emotionally exhausted, not having any fun, had been for weeks, and the coaches not only couldnt pull them out of it, but couldnt even get them prepared for the game to be wearing the correct cleats!

I actually thought we might name him Interim HC if Terry cleaned house this morning. Shula has enough experience to be interim CEO and handle the details. Brady to OC Bobby Babich to DC Oh well, at least we got Dorsey out.
-
But the conversation wasnt around Interceptions. The quote you responded to asking for examples was regarding Dorsey insisting on running plays and concepts that consistently fail.
-
No, it's all BS. It's boring in Buffalo and this is what the fans up there do in their free time.
-
True, but there are solutions around as you mentioned. I'm giving AJE and Floyd some of the money that was going to Tre, Poyer, etc. At CB, we can get by with Douglas and Benford, but Douglas is already up there in years, and could possibly shift to Safety.
-
I mean, look at what a joke "mesh" has become even among the Cover1 analysts that it's a huge deal when it actually manages to work (against a crappy Tampa Bay Defense). Yet we still force it. With more horrible results last night. For examples beyond that, you're more qualified to find them than anyone else here so it shouldnt be too hard.
-
As it should be. It's absolutely the biggest hole on the roster. Except maybe Safety. But find someone that can pull double duty the first year if need be. We can still take a WR in the 2nd round. Which would still be by far the highest pick we've used on actually drafting a WR (not including the 1st for Diggs).
-
My thought last night, IF I was Terry and was going to fire McD, I'd make Shula interim HC, Brady interim OC, and Bobby Babich interim DC, and see how it goes. I'll take the Dorsey firing for now. Writing is on the wall for McD.
-
We'll get to McD eventually. Now (today) isnt the time. Spain can go back to being horrible and irrelevant.
-
When a couple players arent executing well, that is on them. When an entire group of highly talented players are not executing, that is on the coaches. That is what happened to our Offense and Ken Dorsey.
-
So what? The move here wasnt to promote Brady because the FO thinks he's a better or even good OC. The move was firing Dorsey in order to stop the bleeding, make a change, wake up the team, and see how the rest of the season goes under McD. No one should be expecting Brady to be the savior of the offense. That likely wont happen until next season at best. But Dorsey had to go. And now we can determine if McD has to go too ("we" being ownership, since WE all know that answer)
-
It's the correct first step. Whether McD survives until 2024 is a separate issue. This HAD to happen NOW. Let's see what happens under the change to Brady (and I'm sure Shula helping out). I'm just glad to see them do SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

The roster is loaded with talent compared to most of the teams ahead of us in the playoff standings. It's all coaching.

Fire McDermott - 12 On the Field INEXCUSABLE
DrDawkinstein replied to WEATHER DOT COM's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tomlin has 33% of our talent, Pittsburgh has a -26 point differential, yet they are 6-3 and in prime position for a wild card. That is quality coaching. The Bills have plenty of talent, but can't tackle, can't catch, can't count to 12. That is garbage coaching.
