When a couple players arent executing well, that is on them. When an entire group of highly talented players are not executing, that is on the coaches. That is what happened to our Offense and Ken Dorsey.
-
So what? The move here wasnt to promote Brady because the FO thinks he's a better or even good OC. The move was firing Dorsey in order to stop the bleeding, make a change, wake up the team, and see how the rest of the season goes under McD. No one should be expecting Brady to be the savior of the offense. That likely wont happen until next season at best. But Dorsey had to go. And now we can determine if McD has to go too ("we" being ownership, since WE all know that answer)
-
It's the correct first step. Whether McD survives until 2024 is a separate issue. This HAD to happen NOW. Let's see what happens under the change to Brady (and I'm sure Shula helping out). I'm just glad to see them do SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

The roster is loaded with talent compared to most of the teams ahead of us in the playoff standings. It's all coaching.

Fire McDermott - 12 On the Field INEXCUSABLE
DrDawkinstein replied to WEATHER DOT COM's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tomlin has 33% of our talent, Pittsburgh has a -26 point differential, yet they are 6-3 and in prime position for a wild card. That is quality coaching. The Bills have plenty of talent, but can't tackle, can't catch, can't count to 12. That is garbage coaching. -
Peyton is pulling for the Broncos and even HE is DISGUSTED
-
GM is fine and stays for the new regime. Just like they have done in Philly, Miami, Minnesota, etc.
-
#3, absolutely disagree. They simply cant. Poyer, Hyde, Tre White, Morse, Gabe Davis, maybe even Von gone. Now is the chance. Flip the coaches, flip the roster, and reset for 2024. They have the opportunity. We'll see if Terry is able to seize it.
-
And yet, I still had more confidence in Chan, Fitz, and ol Steve to do his thing, than I do right now with these jabronis under Dorsey/McD. We keep it close because we have TALENT. It's fixable because we have TALENT. But it will take redoing the coaching staff to fix it. We'll see if/when Terry pulls that lever.

This was INFURIATING. My buddy said "bad decision/throw by Josh", but I'm wondering WhoTF is deciding to send our 5'6" WR on an out like that? Harty should be used on either 1. short gadget plays (end arounds, bubble screens, etc) or 2. deep shots where he is burning down the field in a straight line. The fact he was on the field, running that route is gross negligence and incompetence by the OC. This is what Josh means by "I'm just running the plays that are called". WTF else is he supposed to do when the coaches are sending in that player personnel, and putting those players on those routes? He can only audible and call plays on the fly so much. He cant re-design the whole Offense while trying to play the game.

i made a thread on this, but wont bump it since there are so many new threads today. If I'm Pegula, the only way McD keeps his job today is if he fires BOTH coordinators and goes back to being the HC running the whole team and working the details. Fire Dorsey, move out of DC. Promote Shula/Brady to OC and Bobby Babich to DC for the rest of the year, and see how it goes. It will at least tell Pegula whether he needs to be starting the search for a new HC, or just new OC.

This team never makes a big stop
DrDawkinstein replied to Brianmoorman4jesus's topic in The Stadium Wall
only 6 points off 4 turnovers, and our O and ST giving them starts in our own territory all night. If the offense showed up to play like the defense, we'd only have 1-2 losses. I do believe the DC needs to be fired but not because of our Defensive performance. And I cant knock any of the players on D who show up and play with heart all the time. Unlike most of our Offense. You want a big stop, blame the dummy who called a 2nd all out blitz coming off a time out. Coaching not putting our guys in the best position to succeed. -
No matter how down I am on the Bills, watching this weekend as Bill OBrien chewed out McCorkle, and Zappe threw a horrible INT on a dumb fake spike to end the game really warmed my heart.

[QUESTION] Your Opinion On This Team Will Change Tonight If:
DrDawkinstein replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall
For that matter, just force some frickin punts and that's close enough. As Jeremy White pointed out this morning, the Bills are currently 25th in forced punts. If that was even mid-tier, we'd have a much easier time. -

Winning proves nothing in this game. It's what they SHOULD do. Just like against the Raiders and Commanders. And like the Jets and Patriots so... 🤷♂️ If they win, great. Let's see you string it together with some quality wins coming up. If they lose, then they are who I think they are. Congrats, McD. I barely feel like even watching this game. -
Totally different discussion, but dont need to blow up the roster. So sounds like, right now, I could see... Head Coach - Sean McDermott Off Coordinator - Kevin Patullo Def Coordinator - Bobby Babich Need to look more into Patullo, and other rising Offensive assistants. Welker is an interesting name, but I'm actually worried his brain might be too scrambled for such a high level position.
-
I'm coming around on Babich for DC. I know they're trying to promote Washington, but I think they're barking up the wrong tree with that. I dont think it's too difficult to replace a DC. The OC is the tricky one.
-
Patullo is a really interesting name to me. I ran across him right after I made this thread. I dont know enough about him or his style, but I think he could be someone to watch. The Philly/McD and Patullo/Buffalo connections certainly help. Leftwich is a great call as I had completely forgotten about him. Not sure what that says tho. And wasnt it really Arians and Brady who probably both had more say in the Offense than Byron? Get a room you two.
-
It seemed like Josh was hitting Cook immediately in those week 2 and 3 games when our Offense was clicking. Then he gets away from it because... reasons....
-
I believe a knock on Dorsey is that he isnt building more out of those same looks. Sure, the idea is to come out in the same look over and over, and once the Defense thinks they know what we are going to do then do something unexpected. But it doesnt seem like we ever get to that second phase of the unexpected. We come out in the same vanilla look and run the same concepts over and over. And I also believe it is to the point that smart Defenses (like Cincy) know what our reads and routes are, and bait Josh into making certain low percentage throws based on giving him certain pre-snap looks. And there is nothing coming from Dorsey to adjust that.
-
Mentioned it on the previous page from last night's game. IMO, Reich is too much like McD in his conservative, older school nature. Also, 2 horribly failed HC stints from 1 OC job where he wasnt even calling plays (that was Pederson) We need young, brash and confident/almost arrogant at OC.
-
Yep. After Cincy's 2nd possession I sent my buddy a text saying "McD has no answers. Best we can hope for is Bengals to stop themselves." And then we got lucky on the next 2 possessions as they did exactly that. The only real play our Defense made was when Joseph stuffed Burrow on 2nd and 1. And that was just the player doing it himself. Then the wheels came off for the Bengals and they ended up in 3rd and 15 and 4th and 20. All self-inflicted as we just held on for dear life.
-
My idea would be if the new OC is really that much of a hot shot, that after next year, we can McD and promote the OC. Only way to fix the cycle we got ourselves into by hiring a defensive HC.
-
Kingsbury is an interesting idea. Wonder if he's holding out for a HC spot. But winning a SB with Josh would be an even better path there.
-
If he came available, would anyone be interested in Frank Reich as OC? Or has he proven to be just as boring, conservative, and ineffective as what we already have? IMO, I'm looking for young and brash, almost arrogant. That isnt Reich. Wonder if Chargers clean house, we could pull off Staley DC, Moore OC. Although I'm not as high on Moore. Always been lukewarm on him since Boise days. Figured he'd make a better coach than player. But havent been wowed much.
