  1. Fielding a team that has only 1 DT, 2 DEs, and 1 Safety (Hamlin) on the entire roster would certainly be the defensive downgrade you are after. But we simply cant roll that out. It's not about upgrading the defense. It's about having a full starting lineup of 11 guys. 1 WR pick, then the rest have to be Defense. Unless you want to line up those 2nd and 3rd picked WRs as DBs.
  2. Only disagreement is on that early WR pick. I think most on this board understand, and are even in favor, of a very heavy defensive draft given our needs on that side of the ball. I also agree with going Safety->DT->DE. Heck, I'd say Safety->DT->DE->Safety->DB->DT. After our WR pick tho.
  3. Agreed. Even if I am in favor of having him stick around longer than some others may want, I think that restructure is one of the last levers on a long list of levers Beane can pull to clear space. Break glass in case of emergency. Otherwise, keep the flexibility.
  4. Bob Woods has a $9.75M cap hit and only $4.75M in dead money. If the Texans move on, could we bring him back cheap?
  5. "My friend banged on his door and then busted a window and yelled and announced her presence while she’s inside and still nothing from him? Then the cops come 10 [minutes] later and he comes out nonchalant in his boxers with an empty wine glass in hand??! Nothing is adding up. Dave, Clay and Ricky need and deserve justice.” I meeeeeeeean.......
  6. I'm not necessarily advocating for him to play out the contract. Just saying it becomes more justifiable when you combine his salary with the new #1 rookie deal, and look at the total spend across your #1 and #2 WRs. If we take a WR in the 1st round this year, from this class, and they are our 4th option for ANY amount of time, then McD and the entire Offensive staff should be fired. Most of the guys that will go early this class should be immediate starters, if not immediate #1 guys. If you want to slot the rookie in as starting the year as our WR2, just to make the transition easier (for both him AND Diggs), then fine. But whoever we are taking in the 1st this year needs to contribute right away, and should even have a better year than Kincaid had in '23.
  7. We do NOT need a #2 WR. We need a new #1 who pushes Diggs down to #2. That is the best way to keep Diggs here and afford to let him play out his contract (which we'll need to do on a dead money basis). Then as Diggs' contract expires in 4 years, we still have the new #1 on a 5th year option cheap before having to shift Stef's money to the #1's extension.
  8. He won a Super Bowl that year. His 4th year at the helm. He brought home the Lombardi. If McD had won a SB his 4th year in 2021, like he should have, he would have carte blanche to whatever ups and downs he needed over the next 15 years. Instead, he put himself on the fan's hotseat with his legendary contribution to Buffalo Bills Lovable Loser Lore.
  9. And almost all of those are merely symptoms of the larger, bolded disease.
  10. Line the Bills and Ravens rosters up on paper and theyre pretty close. The main difference is their future HoF coach who oversees the entire team, not just one unit, and keeps the entire team consistently ready to play. That's why they have 13 (could have been 14 if they wanted) wins and we're squeezing out 11.
  11. Totally fine with that. After a full season of seeing more ref time on air than I'd ever want to in my lifetime, they can keep their flags in their pockets. Especially since they did it fairly for both teams. Too bad the Bills couldnt figure out a way to capitalize on that gift.
  12. What it comes down to is simple: Beat the Jets, Pats, and Broncos like you should have when you were 100% healthy (or close enough to it), and we have the #1 spot locked up and can rest guys week 18 AND get the Bye in week 19. And our entire OL has been healthy all year. Both trench units, arguably up there with QB as most important personnel, were pretty healthy. Losing LBs in a league that has devalued the LB position shouldnt have affected us to the point of ruining our season. I know there were other injuries but we had enough guys to go.
  13. Back-to-back WRs that early just doesnt make sense from a value stand point. Taking another WR in the 2nd means you are spending a high pick on a guy who will be, at best, your 5th option on Offense behind: 1st Round WR Diggs Kincaid Running the Ball If a guy falls, like Jermaine Burton to the 5th, and they want to double dip then - great. But passing up a Safety who might play every Defensive snap, or even a DT who will play half of them in rotation, for a guy who probably wouldnt see the field on most Offensive snaps is just roster mismanagement.
  14. Outside of 1 (mayyybe 2) WR, I expect this draft to be completely Defense. We'll need 2 Safeties, 2 DEs, and 2DTs, at least 1 CB, and we've certainly shown we can never have too much LB depth. There's no other open spots on Offense anyways, even at depth positions. For all the crap I give McD, he definitely showed he has evolved in this already. As evidenced by all the action Kincaid saw, and well, this:
  15. Yes. Definitely good enough to not waste a high pick trying to replace a player who was a key part of our strongest unit. And a late pick aint gonna beat him out.
  16. I'd be surprised if we draft any OL. We have our entire starting line returning. As well as all our depth from this year. We might decide to release Morse and promote Bates, or vice versa, and need a backup interior OL. But those are easy to find in FA (cheap compared to DL) and we have Broeker coming back. We definitely need DTs, so I expect at least 1 DE and 1 DT drafted. Maybe even 2.
  17. Sucks to go out that way, but at least they got 2 Lombardis before they passed.
  18. Not really. There are plenty of levers for Beane to pull and cap magic to work. We can get to $20M, $40M, maybe even $60M under the cap if we really needed to.
  19. There were definitely drugs involved. Almost seems like the homeowner passed out on fentanyl/opioids, and left his friends outside. And if they were on similar drugs, they may not have even felt how cold it was until it was too late.
  20. It's slim pickins, for sure. A couple of us did some digging in a previous thread. Best outside candidate I can come up with is maybe Klint Kubiak.
  21. Interesting he has current fan-favorite Troy Franklin going right after our pick to the KC Chiefs. (@HappyDays) If that played out, I cant imagine the number of Mitchel vs Franklin comparison threads we'd have here throughout their careers. I also wont be surprised to watch KC leapfrog us to #25 and get the WR we both wanted...
  22. We better not be tipping our hats to Babich as he leaves the building to head to New Jersey! GIT R DUN!
  23. Agreed 100% Additionally, has any player ever said anything groundbreaking/shocking/revealing in any of these pressers across the history of sports? Isnt it all the same copy&paste sound bites to feed the league's marketing arm of "Sports Journalism" and give the reporters a quote to pad their article? So many of our players DID speak with the press after the game. Does anyone care? Are we talking about any of it besides Josh here? Anyone really care what Sherfield or Dawkins or Rousseau had to say after the loss?
