Pegula and the Bills know that everyone wants to see Josh and the boys in the 90s throwbacks. I'm convinced they are trying to wait until AFTER this team wins a Super Bowl, and then trot them out the next season in the 90s unis to put those 4 SBs behind us. We might get them in 2026 with the new stadium even if they dont win the SB this year.

Beane is good at drafting after all -- A look at 2022
DrDawkinstein replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Beane is one of the top GMs in the league. Probably top 3. That isnt the discussion. Nor is anyone (at least not me) saying Beane isnt good or should be replaced or anything like that. Nor am I comparing him to other GMs, since there is no point because he's better than most. We're discussing his past drafts and drafting trends/habits. That little sliver of space between AFC Championship game and Super Bowl. It's a good spot to be in and a good problem to have. Dont think I mean anything else. -
Beane is good at drafting after all -- A look at 2022

We already know exactly what happened. McD worked with Whaley and his scouting crew to draft the guys he wanted. Nothing more. I know this because if anything else went down, it would have been obvious to at least Doug Whaley, who has since tried making a career out of bashing the Bills FO, and never misses an opportunity to do so. If McD was in there making picks of guys that werent on Whaley's radar, Doug would have sniffed that something was up right away, and that bombshell would have been revealed by now. I also dont think McD or Beane are dumb enough to have Beane giving info to another team while he was working for the Panthers. If that comes out in any way, and it would have been a huge bombshell, it immediately ends their new jobs and likely their entire careers in the NFL as no team could trust them ever again. The idea that Beane was somehow feeding McD info before he was hired is ludicrous. The obvious thing happened. McD and Whaley worked together and put out a nice draft. Not surprising given Whaley's evaluation skills and McD's vision for the team he wanted to build (and how much better it was than whatever Rex was doing). -

That's doing his job well. A game changer is able to make a play all on his own that completely changes the course of the game. Interceptions would be the big thing for CBs there. To that point, Derek Stingley Jr has averaged 5 INTs/year. Benford has 5 total career INTs. Benford is a solid pick, especially in round 5. And I love him on the Bills, dont get me wrong. But he isnt that home run talent I'm talking about. And yes, I'm being very tight and stingy with my rating. -

That's fine and fair. Not a Beane pick. If you want to credit McD for that, go ahead. But he was using Whaley's scouting. I'd argue that while Beane is a much better Executive at GM overall, Whaley and crew were better scouts/talent evaluators. Whaley got stuck with a carousel of Head Coaches and (especially) Defensive Coordinators always changing schemes, yet always found guys to fit in. Dawkins wasnt a Beane pick either. -

He didnt draft Milano, that was Whaley's crew. And given his injuries, and therefore lack of consistent contribution the last few seasons, it's tough to label him a home run. Benford and Shakir are nice players, but despite what us homers think, neither are game-changing superstar home runs. Solid triples for sure. Maybe home runs if you consider Josh a grand slam... The only other player close to it, the only other player he's drafted to receive All-Pro honors, has been Taron Johnson. But time may be catching up to Taron. -

Same thing we say every offseason about Beane's drafting - He's good at hitting singles and doubles, but hasnt hit many home runs. Really need a couple more home runs. -
Seems no one wants to admit the obvious, the only Bills skill position player to make NFLN's Top 100... Another year running behind the same line, in the same system, that helped take him to his best season yet. If he does it again it will be known as his breakout year. James Cook.

The craziest part about all this is if they just DIDNT REACT, or just actually even kissed, the whole crowd moves on and it never makes the news or twittersphere. It was their immediate and guilty reaction that caught everyone's attention. To the point that the Coldplay singer even called it out like "Whoa, what was that? Someone having an affair?" Which made everyone post it.

TJ Watt signs extension with the Stillers

I took it to mean Watt is a better DE than James Cook, to which I cannot disagree. -
RIP Felix Baumgartner -Man who skydived from "space"
DrDawkinstein replied to Wacka's topic in Off the Wall
Sounds like he died while paragliding (heart attack maybe?) and that caused the crash. He was already dead in the air before he hit down. Luckily no one else seriously injured, although one hotel worker got hit and went to the hospital for a neck injury. I remember watching that jump from "space". So cool. Was a bit hairy for a moment because iirc he went into a spin, but then got out of it and ultimately landed on his feet! RIP -
Bengals 1st RD Pick could go back to College?
DrDawkinstein replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I saw that. Was it ever determined what the difference was between him and say Bo Jackson? Was it because Bo didnt go back to school (since the Bucs blew his eligibility which was why he refused to go to Tampa)? -
Where does Khalil Shakir rank in terms of NFL WRs?

We get it. You fist bumped Josh, and he loves Shakir. But that doesnt count as "insider info" -

Texas A&M coach was on ESPN earlier and clarified that yes Sanders is working out at their facility, but fully intends to return to Cincy and the Bengals for camp and will not be on the A&M team this year. Which was nice of him to break the news for us, but it totally sandbags whatever little leverage his boy Sanders was holding over the Bengals in trying to get this deal done! I'd be a little pissed at coach if I were Sanders. -

Where does Khalil Shakir rank in terms of NFL WRs?
DrDawkinstein replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, nah. Top 30 is a bit of a stretch and bordering on homerism. Looking back at Roscoe's list, even if there are a couple I think Shakir is better than (McConkey, for example) there are others that would push him down. WR is a very stacked position across the NFL. He isnt going to be any GM's first choice, which is what would need to happen for him to crack the top 32 alone. For my (non) analysis, I wasnt necessarily saying "he was 40th in yards therefore he's #40", but was getting an idea of just how many other WRs there are and how many that are producing. I'm thinking that almost every #1 WR would go before him, and at least a handful of #2s, and maybe a couple of his fellow slots as well. So 35, 38, 40... seems to be a reasonable range. -

Where does Khalil Shakir rank in terms of NFL WRs?
DrDawkinstein replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
Without much analysis I'm going to wing an answer and say somewhere in the 40s. Assuming most #1s would be ahead of him, and a handful of #2s. edit: Ok did some light research, and yeah, he was 40th in receiving yards, high-20s in receptions, and didnt make the top 50 in TDs. So yeah, low 40s if they were redrafting all the WRs. -
The Ed Oliver thing seemed like a complete railroading and all charges were ultimately dropped. I think they pulled him over and he supposedly failed a field sobriety test, and he had a gun legally, but when mixed with a DUI it becomes an issue. But the blood test from the incident came back totally clear. He was basically pulled over and ***** with for having "tinted windows in the wrong area of town" if ya know what I mean. No legal issues so no suspension.

Absolutely. Different jobs have different requirements, and for some jobs it makes sense that driving or drug infractions could affect employment. And if unions are involved, I trust any employer involvement is agreed upon and for a good reason. I get it with the NFL adding on, but some people act like its the league's job to be the police, judge, jury, and executioner when they're just trying to run a sports entertainment business.
-
One affects the game that the league runs, one doesnt. PEDs, gambling, cheating, etc are all directly related to their job. Off-field stuff isnt. Folks get so confused about employer discipline when it comes to this stuff. I could commit a whole bunch of crimes that my employer would have zero business punishing me over. Including car accidents. Now, I get that they are in high-profile positions and the league needs to protect it's public image in order to make money, but that is the only reason they get involved with punishments for off-field issues. Punishing people for off-field crimes is what the judicial system is for, and he'll be serving 30 days and 5 years probation. Any issues with that, take it up with the courts.

Guys... this isnt a perfect, 100% 1:1 analogy. But the bones are the same. Its more about the big picture overall plan than matching up exact players. You can say we didnt have anyone as talented... sure, but most folks feel Gardner has been more hype and disappointing, much like Sammy. And while the Bills didnt get the OL figured out right away, they were at least trying. Way more movement in the trenches here than in NY this year. I dont remember Beane handing out 2 HUGE contracts right away tho either. But if you think this is the plan that will work for the Jets and they are on the right track and setting themselves up to draft a great QB next year, I'm sure Gang Green is happy to have your support. Even worse then because the Jets likely would have been able to bring in quite a haul for those better players.
