I'm ok with either. I'd like to get a longer deal done, as would the team and player, I assume. IIRC, a team can tag a player but then has a window to also get a long term deal done. Or do I have that backwards.
-
Issued by March 10th, but don't they have some time after that to get a long term deal done before the player and team is stuck with the 1 year tag?
-
We could do both and still have $60M in cap left over. And Harry is coming back to split time with Star at the 1-tech spot. Jordan rotates at 3-Tech with Ed. And if you consider both Ed and Harry are on Rookie deals, and Star just took a paycut, it isnt a ton of money to have invested in the Interior DL overall. I'm all for spending in the trenches.

What are the deadlines for tagging a player and getting a long term deal done? IF we tag Phillips, I see it mostly as a way to keep him in our building and have exclusive negotiating rights with him. More so than a tag-and-trade, or tag and pay him 1yr/$16M. I mean, not really. I was actually just putting it up for a reference point. There are still other options than paying him $16M. We could use it to buy time to work out a long term deal. And "worst case" pay him the tag amount which we can afford with our crazy amount of cap space, and worry about replacing him next year. We hear the fan suggestions every year, but how many tag-and-trades actually happen? Not a lot of teams willing to give up good draft capital AND have to immediately sign a guy to a high-price deal. Usually only superstars/big names like Clowney.

Add this to the long list of "Easier Said by Fans than Actually Done"

The 2019 Tag Number for DTs was $15,209,000. Just putting that out there for easy reference.

Jags unlikely to allow Yannick Ngakoue to test FA

Ah, that's right. They still get hit with like $18M, right? -
Jags unlikely to allow Yannick Ngakoue to test FA
DrDawkinstein replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Word is Jags might be looking to make a Osweiler-type trade to a team with cap room in order to move Foles and free up $20M+ in cap. They will also probably tag Ngakoue, but he may not want to sign there and pull a Clowney. I'm thinking... Bills send Jags our 2020 2nd round pick Jags send Bills Foles, Ngakoue, and their 2020 3rd round pick -
Sorry dude, but a much more interesting thread would be if you could give reasons "Why Tre White should consider signing an Extension now". Signing an extension now is pretty much 100% in the team's favor, and a major detriment to the player outside of a (unlikely) catastrophic career ending injury. Besides the small possibility of such an injury, there is really no reason Tre's camp should consider. And THAT is the major factor into why it isn't happening. So many posts and threads sounding like all that needs to happen is the Bills to make an offer. That's not the way it works. Two to tango and all that.

Yeah, by turf I just meant the playing field. There are plenty of engineers that I'm sure could figure out a solution for building a raised floor over the field with minimal damage. And even then, since the events take place in the offseason there is time to repair. If we're talking about it on a message board, someone smarter has a solution. ?

where is the NFL going with women coaches?
DrDawkinstein replied to stuvian's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Frankly if they can't get the votes in a classic TBD "Would ya?" thread, then do they even have value as a person? Spoiler alert: no. -
Differing opinions. And I'm not saying it has to look like Lucas Oil, just that it doesnt HAVE to look like Minn's new US Bank Stadium or Atlanta's new MB Stadium which would be out of place and possibly tacky in Buffalo (although I personally do like both of those stadiums). Point is, there isn't a rule on how it has to be designed. Heck they could tie in some Frank Lloyd Wright aspects and have it look modern yet still very "Buffalo".

You want to talk about wasting money? Spend $500M-$1B building an open-air stadium in the suburbs. New stadium will go downtown, and it will be enclosed so it can be used for more than 8-10 days a year. We already need a new convention center, boom there is your new convention center too. And just like they built Lucas Oil Field in Indy to match the surrounding warehouses and industrial buildings, they can build the new stadium to match Buffalo's existing architecture.

2020 mock drafts/ fanspeak/ draft network
DrDawkinstein replied to ScorpionZero's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's time to bring the draft discussions back to the main board now that the season is over. -
Folks have been talking about this for a while now. And why wouldnt Ross want Burrow? He is by far the top QB in the draft. I dont find the report that Ross covets Burrow to be that surprising or shocking. I do not see Burrow pulling a Manning, especially since it's not like the Dolphins have been that better managed. And I do not see Mike Brown being that dumb.

What would a T. White Extension look like?
DrDawkinstein replied to Franchiseneedsme's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly what I came in to post. Well done. It's not just up to the team. Why wouldn't the player wait? Salaries only go up. Waiting another year or even two could mean an additional $15M on his contract. -
Favorite ESPN 30 for 30 documentary
DrDawkinstein replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Watch the USFL doc. It's clear what happened. Donnie bought his way in figuring it would be his way into an NFL franchise. He did his usual MO: tank the company and then sue someone else. They settled for $1 and the damage to the USFL was already done. He's interviewed in the doc and walks off in a huff. But I digress... OJ: Made in America is part of the 30 for 30 series, but I prefer the doc titled "June 17th, 1994" which chronicles all the amazing things that happened in sports on one crazy day and also the White Bronco chase.
