We've had 3 years of culture building already. If McD's culture cant handle a player like Diggs, who isnt even that bad as far as some players in the league go, then it's all meaningless anyways. You mention the Falcons. They all talk about "the brotherhood" down here and how their locker room is one of the closest in the league. That culture didnt do squat for them last year. Diggs gripe in Minn wasnt about his catches. ALL the WRs had a problem when they moved to a run-first scheme, and their offense went into the crapper. Once they shifted back to letting Cousins throw, they started winning and everyone was happy. So the players were right in that instance. Here's a prime example of Diggs being a distraction and demanding the ball: Oh wait, it sounds like he just wants to win.

Would Cam Newton be a good backup to Josh?
DrDawkinstein replied to longtimebillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would I like to have an athlete like Cam Newton as our backup? Yes. Is he a good fit for a backup role? Hell no. -
IF Polian wasnt so in love with Wright IF Marv had just implemented a curfew IF Kelly hands off a few more times IF Talley and the D make 1 more 3rd down stop and get off the field IF our leading scorer and clutch kicker hooks it just a few feet more to the left So many small factors, and if any single one of them had gone differently, so does history. But here we are...

Thaddeus Moss, anyone?

The 2008 Patriots had a far more talented roster than the 2020 Pats. Welker, Randy Moss, and a young Ben Watson. Kevin Faulk, Lawrence Maroney, and Sammy Morris at RB. Defense had Wilfork, Bruschi, Seymor, Mayo, Merriweather, and Vrabel. And even Junior Seau as a backup. The current roster looks nothing like that.

Yep, that was what I was trying to figure out in the first few pages of this thread. I was originally asking that, and we've already determined that part is very possible (without knowing the exact authority he's been given through his contract). My next questions were, if he was able to pull that off, what could the league or owners do to reverse it once it was done?

Sorry for your loss, and for our loss. Thank you for letting us know.

Yall keep saying this, but no one can tell me what they mean or how so. And I think it's an incorrect assumption, if the GM/HC is already on his way out, but currently has the power to deal. WRT the A's, if I remember my baseball cards correctly Rollie Fingers and Reggie Jackson were definitely there.

NFL GM's want Draft postponed
DrDawkinstein replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As someone who is on day 14 of quarantine and has 5 more weeks to go. YES PLEASE. This is all I have to look forward to right now! -
This is exactly why I tagged you and summoned you to the thread Thanks! It's just really interesting to me how team offices and league offices work. It's why I will always watch every Hard Knocks or All or Nothing. The way these teams and businesses operate behind the scenes is enthralling. Especially when it comes to power-plays and power-struggles. So optics (and all reason) aside, it's possible BOB could trade Watson to NE, and the Texans ownership would have to step in after the trade goes down to petition the league to annul it?

All that just to blue-ball me again! ? haha, thanks for trying to research. so until we get a definitive answer, I'm going to assume this could happen. I would think the same thing. But has the league ever stepped in and stopped a trade before? I know it's happened in the NBA. I know the NFL "unofficially" did it to the Raiders back in the day.

Jackson may very well be able to step into a Patriots offense, or a Gruden offense, or a WC offense, and sling the ball all over the field. Maybe. But we dont know because he hasnt been asked to do it. Instead, he's been in a customized, Greg Roman, run-first, make short check down passes to TEs in space, offense. I dont knock the Ravens Coaching for designing that offense. It's brilliant to be able to craft an entire scheme around a player's talents. But that is why people dont give Jackson more credit. He isnt being asked to win with his arm. And when he's been forced to win with his arm as a "classic QB", the Ravens look incredibly vulnerable. It's a major piece of how the Titans shut them down and held the Ravens to 12 points. I love that there is a fresh new crop of young QBs to route for, and that we have one of them, and that balance is coming back to the league. I hope Jackson continues to have success (expect when playing the Bills). But I also expect Defenses to have him more figured out this year. We'll see...

Finally, the guy Ive been waiting for! How does that work tho? To use your analogy, I can make pricing decisions for minor and even major deals in my job. Since I want to keep my job, I consult with my bosses or other people on major decisions or when I need to step out of our usual boundaries. But if I didnt care about keeping my job, I could totally make decisions they wouldnt approve of and get them under contracts before they could do anything about it. What process would stop BOB from making the deal? When you say "The Bills would absolutely need the Pegula’s approval to trade Josh." How so? And as in, need Pegulas approval to complete the trade? Or need Pegulas approval in order to keep their job?

I'm tryin! I know Im splitting hairs, but Im on Day 14 of quarantine and really bored. Plus, Im interested in how this all works behind the scenes. And whether we can simply dismiss ideas like this. Surpisingly, I havent been able to find anyone who can tell me "NO this isnt possible because ownership must sign off". And the more I pry, the more it looks like he totally could make that trade if he wanted and didnt care about keeping his job.

I'm waiting for someone to give a definitive answer that ownership is always involved in every trade made in the NFL. So far, everyone here has said "I'd think", or "I feel", or the like. No one has been able to tell me "Yes, when a GM files a trade with the league, there is a paper the owner needs to sign to approve it". For all we know, GMs have the authority to wheel and deal autonomously. I feel like that too, but so far we havent received that confirmation from anyone who definitely knows.

Jackson and Allen have nearly identical stats from last year: https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/table/passing/sort/passingYards/dir/desc With the biggest difference coming in the scheme that was built around Jackson to give him easy throws to TEs. Whereas Allen has been running a more traditional, pure-passing Offense taken from the Patriots. I'd say our QB situations are about equal, but for different reasons.
