I would rather use the DL resources to sign other, more productive DL players. That is why I said "Maybe not the players we have on the DL right now, but as a unit." The game is won and lost in the trenches, and a good DL makes your LBs and CBs better. We learned that the hard way this year. We cant release a bunch of DL starters and shift those resources to one LB. The DL will be even worse than this year, and as the DL goes, so goes the rest of the D. Which means you are just wasting money on a high-priced LB who cant make plays because we have no DL. That is also how Beane works it too. They have set values for positions and units, and will only spend so much. They will not, nor should they, rob Peter to pay Paul.

Again, fingers crossed. I could see Indy do it tho. They have a ton of space, and I believe he fits there. Why would he want anything less than his market value? I dont want to take resources away from the DL and shift them to one LB. DL is far more important. Maybe not the players we have on the DL right now, but as a unit. And yeah, "draft and pay your own". We've done that. White re-signed, Dawkins re-signed, Allen will get a big deal this offseason. BUT... it takes two to tango and from what Beane says, Milano wants to test the market. AND even if you draft well, you will never be able to re-sign everyone. That is impossible. We are re-signing the guys we can, and who want to be here. It's not all on the Bills.

Not at $14M/year for Milano. He isnt that good. He's the best of what we have now, but that's not saying much. For a coverage LB, TEs kill us. And he's still a liability in open-field tackling. Milano will hit the market, and some team will prob over pay for him. I'd trigger Edmunds 5th year option, but he needs to improve big time in order to get that 2nd contract. Draft Milano's replacement this year, look to draft Edmunds replacement next year.

I supported Whaley while he was here. But he and Dunne just need to move on. Dunne especially, as he is trying to milk an entire reporting career out of one contact who isnt even in the NFL anymore. Sad. Anyone could sit and pick apart things in hindsight. I think we all know where the Bills went wrong Sunday night. Moving on...

1. Cant ever cheer for Brady 2. If the Chiefs crush the Bucs, it shows the Bills were the 2nd best team in the league and the real Super Bowl game.

Doesnt really matter. He was a part of it. 80% of Josh's success is on Josh, just like any other successfully developed QB. Divvy up the rest as you see fit. But being around and a part of it is all that is needed to get a promotion in the NFL, where developing QBs is crucial. But that is why I specifically said "After seeing what the Bills have done with Josh", not "what Dorsey has done with Josh". It's a group effort. The point is to be a part of it.

Chiefs 19m Over Salary Cap in 2021
DrDawkinstein replied to JMF2006's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lots of teams are "over the cap" next year. That's mostly a temporary issue, and pretty widespread. Saints are $100M+ over cap. The BILLS are $8M over cap. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/ We know it wont be any lower than $175M. I've seen $180M talked about recently, but no one is really sure yet. This article is pretty optimistic that it could be as high as $195M https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/12/06/optimism-emerges-regarding-2021-salary-cap/ -
Good news that Dorsey is safe Everyone should be interested in Dorsey after seeing what the Bills have done with Josh. That said, I hope he realizes his smartest, safest path to success is staying in Buffalo. Daboll will get a HC spot, and Dorsey will get a promotion. And in 2-3 years, Dorsey will be a prime HC candidate. If he goes somewhere else, to a struggling or rebuilding team as OC now, the whole staff gets canned in a year or two and then he has to come back and start over. Buffalo is the place to be for coaches and players.

Oh I absolutely agree that Hilton is not an improvement over Brown. But talking strictly about Brown, he'll be 31 soon and coming off a leg injury. Didnt contribute much to our playoff run. And is set to make $9.5M next year. I think we can find a cheaper replacement and upgrade his speed while doing so.

His injury and being a complete non-factor in the playoffs?

How can the bills afford Diggs and Allen
DrDawkinstein replied to dbfla10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right on. I wasnt disagreeing with you, but thought it was a smart and interesting move by Beane and wanted to document it here. -
Fair enough take, I have no idea what Ross's market value will be. But I dont think Brown has done much more in his career, and he got that contract. Free Agency is a WILD ride where guys get crazy contracts.

Good list (for real, no sarcasm). But really only Hopkins and Jones average over $20M/yr. The Cowboys were stuck having to pay Cooper since they traded away some 1sts for him. And Thomas kind of answers your original question. The Saints are paying Thomas and Brees. They start every offseason way over the cap. But somehow they figure out payrolls, and are still there to compete every season. Good back and forth, but it really isnt that much of a worry for the Bills. Especially considering Josh's extension and Diggs' new deal wont kick in until after next year when the cap gets back to normal and makes some big jumps. -

Who? Not Tyreek Hill. Not Davante Adams. Not Mike Evans. -

Question for you: Which WRs are making $25M? Are there many of them? Or is the Hopkins contract, much like his trade deal, an anomaly? -

Just a note that we didnt really re-do his contract. We just moved some money up to this year since we had cap space this year, and reduced it down the line. "the Bills are increasing Diggs' 2020 compensation by $3.3 million (now $14.8 million). Buffalo is also reducing Diggs' 2021 cash by $300,000, but increasing the guarantee by $7.7 million -- making it a total of $11 million. Additionally, the Bills reduced Diggs' 2022-23 cash from $25.55 million to $22.67 million" -
Think we'll see a lot more 1 year deals with current teams due to the drop in cap?
